I was unable to respond to your following comment on this thread, but I wanted to let you know that I'm still having the problem. I've concluded that it's *not* your config file or conky in general (although the newer conky from that PPA seems to be pretty stable so far), but the X server -- either config or build options -- in general that are causing the backgrounds to be black.

Not sure what's causing this, but I don't think it's conky's fault.

I'm fairly certain that it has to do with my installation of X on this new version of Ubuntu. Like I said, it was working just fine with 9.04, but with the 9.10 beta it's not behaving 100%. (The version of Conky that was installed is very crash prone on this version of Ubuntu, too!) - Oct 05 2009

Note: When I used this before, it was *always* transparent. I get a solid black conky background when I take out the --theme flag altogether. - Oct 03 2009

I just did a fresh ubuntu install (9.10 beta) and am trying to figured out how to get conky to go transparent ala the gnome-human default theme with this conky. I've installed imagemagic and libimlib2... What am I missing? - Oct 03 2009

Found the problem. Your script did not set eth1 like I'd specified. Edited by hand to replace all eth0 with eth1 and it's working for me now.

Not sure I like the clock tho. I'd like to get the plain clock, but it appears that only modern, classic, and slim are the only options. :-/ - Sep 23 2009

I get "Network Unavailable" and "Weather Unavailable" for this conky config, even though I've had them working with my previous config.

Here's my config:

--cpu=4 --cputemp --swap --updates --proc=5 --calendar --hd=mix --hdtemp1=sda --hdtemp2=sdb --pidgin --network --eth1 --unit=F --weather=USCA1018 --weatherplus --side=right --ubuntu --theme=shiki-human --clock=modern - Sep 23 2009

Me too.

One thing to note - the OpenFont font file was not included. (this is the font used for the Kernel line) It was easily found at DaFont.com tho.

I added --imperial after every --location and it now seems to give me my imperial units. :-) Kinda clunky tho - you can't just set imperial to true in the conkyForecast.config file. If you set the URL to end in "i" instead of "m", your temps get all messed up.
