Hi,
I thnk the new highlight when moving the mouse over the icons is good. It makes the applet seem much more responsive. - May 11 2009

This does the trick:
Quote:def compiz_scale_all(self, widget, event):
gobject.timeout_add(settings['popup_delay']+ 200, self.hide_list_no_check)
compiz_call('scale/allscreens/initiate_key','activate','root', self.root_xid)

Thanks for the scale all addition! Works great. There's a but, though. When I use roll the mouse wheel and the scale starts, the previous group button's popup window list stays open. after the scale, I need to go back to the group button to get it to disappear. Please close the group button popup on scale, thanks. - Apr 28 2009

Good release!
There is a minor discrepancy in the preferences for opacify. The "Transparency" slider actually measures opacity, i.e., 100 means fully opaque windows while 0 means completely invisible windows. - Apr 24 2009

I would like another feature: initiating compiz scale for all windows contained in dockbar. This would be initiated with a mouse action on any group button. It would do scale on windows on all workspaces, or windows on the current workspace, depending on if "ignore windows from other workspaces" is checked in dockbar settings.

I request this feature because currently almost all of my window switching happens in dockbar, but I have to move the mouse elsewhere to do an all-windows scale (currently the right upper corner of the screen). This feature would make dockbar the place to go for all my window management needs. - Apr 20 2009

0.21.4 shows the Eclipse IDE normally again. Thanks!
Typos are fixed as well. I like the new colour choices in appearance settings.

I would like to request a new group button action: To cycle focus and raise the windows in that group. For example, rolling the mouse wheel on a group button would raise and focus the first unraised unfocused window of that group, unminimizing it if minimized. A further roll would then raise and focus the next window, until you are at the last window. It would then move to the first window again if the mouse was rolled. This can be used for quick switching between windows: Compiz scale for 3 or 4 windows is sometimes too much, while a focus + raise cycle might be handy to pick one quickly.

I see a bug with 0.21.3. eclipse for java which I installed in my home directory is no longer shown when it is running.
The launcher is like this:
/home/user/eclipse/eclipse
and the icon is a custom icon in the eclipse folder.
xprop says
WM_CLASS(STRING) = "Eclipse", "Eclipse"
WM_NAME(STRING) = "Java - project/src/currently/edited/classname.Java - Eclipse Platform " - Apr 20 2009

Earlier I got Zenity flashing the urgent signal and staying in dockbarx, just sitting there and flashing at me, even though the program using zenity had quit. I do not see this on my Jaunty. Has this been fixed in the bzr, or is this a Jaunty vs Intrepid zenity-caused bug?
What I did was:
scanimage | convert - temp.jpg | zenity --title "Scanning image" --text "Scanning image ..." --progress --auto-close --auto-kill
This was inside a bash script. - Apr 17 2009

Nevermind,
I use a new launcher_icon.png for myself now, which has a fully transparent point in the middle and opacity increasing gradually towards the edges. Since the icons are now not obscured (so much), everything looks good. Get it from: http://www.cs.helsinki.fi/u/lagerspe/dockbarx_0.21.1.1-1_all.deb - Apr 15 2009

How about instead of overlaying the launcher_icon.png on top of the program icon, do the other way around? Keep program icons almost opaque and the launcher_icon.png as their totally opaque background. Program icons are smaller than the launcher_icon anyway, so... - Apr 15 2009

Hi,
did you also make the launcher buttons smaller? In my opinion they are getting too small, or the button background has too high contrast, so that either the top half of an app icon is close to the white or the bottom half close to the black colour of the button background.
Many icons, such as thunderbird, nautilus, and pidgin have this "top half lighter than bottom half" colour scheme. It makes it more difficult to make out the icons when they are on a similar background. - Apr 15 2009

Hi,
I tried 0.21.0 on Jaunty beta on my eee pc. If I log out or shut down the session, in the start of my next session apport greets me in the panel. There is a bug report about a "crashed program" saying dockbarx.py closed unexpectedly. This gets annoying in the long run. Any idea why dockbarx.py would not exit cleanly on session close? - Apr 15 2009

Just to clarify, derma:
if you open two firefox windows, do you see one firefox icon? Then when moving the mouse on top of the icon, do you see "Firefox" and then under it a firefox icon with the title of the first window, then the icon with the title of the second window? And are you able to click on those window titles, and minimize just one window at a time?

If you are talking about the icon & name for the windows of an application, I think they are not redundant: You can interact with one window or the other, or you can use the dockbar's bigger icon for interacting with the whole application / all the windows at once. - Apr 14 2009

In my opinion, these duplicates are caused by the user having launchers defined according to the program names used by the earlier version, while 20.8 and above use a different name for programs (old Terminal vs. new Gnome-Terminal, old Thunderbird vs new Thunderbird-bin, etc.). If You define a launcher with the old name, f.ex. gnome-terminal with the name Terminal, in the new version the started terminal will not be associated with the launcher button. When upgrading, redefining your launchers fixes this.

My issue is with a program that I never had a launcher for, so it is a different thing that I explained above. - Apr 14 2009

The title for both groups is "hugin", even though they are put under different group buttons. Also, when making the final panorama, the title for the final stitcher is hugin_stitch_project something, and sometimes huginpto_randomcharacters. - Apr 14 2009

Hi,
I really like 0.21.0. The not-so-invisible minimized icon is a big plus.
The glow looks silly on firefox, but fantastic on nautilus seashell. Its in my opinion better than the active_icon.png. I used a white spotlight-like active_icon.png that I made, the blending of that and an icon made it light from the bottom and stand out in a group pretty nicely. I hope the glow will be even better, with some look enhancements.

to get the aligning images window:
Start Hugin Panorama creator.
choose "1. load images" from the Assistant tab. choose some big jpegs (in a real case part of a panorama project), press ok. Answer some number, for example 4.71, depending on the camera to the lens factor. press ok. If aligning does not start, click "2. align".

resource class name: how to get that? I got WM_NAME(STRING) = "Hugin - Panorama Tools Frontend" and WM_NAME(STRING) = "finding control points"
from xprop for the two windows. xprop did not show "hugin" in any part. - Apr 13 2009

When I use your dockbarx with Hugin panorama creator, the initial window "Hugin - Panorama Tools Frontend" makes up a group, and all subwindows are put in a second group. Also, the minimize does not work; minimizing using the window corner minimize button works and minimizes all windows, but using dockbarx trying to minimize does nothing. - Apr 11 2009

The minimize animation does not target the right place with dockbar. To make it work, set_icon_geometry() should be called on all windows, using the icon's absolute location and size as parameters.
This could be done with (pseudocode):

x, y = groupbutton.get_origin()
a = groupbutton.get_allocation()
x += a.x
y += a.y
window.set_icon_geometry(x, y, a.width, a.height)

Hi,
first, good job on the scaling and top panel!
It seems that the compiz minimize animation does not play; the window just disappears. Would it be possible to change the current instant minimization to mimick a minimize action by the user? - Feb 03 2009
