My question is: Can you please point me to an explanation of how this works.
Also, is there a way to increase the transparency of the Panel (which is 100% Opaque)? - Jun 14 2009

So, if you consider that some people vote based on whether or not they would personally use the artwork, then anything over 30% would be considered good. OTOH, some people, like myself, vote based on whether someting is good, I will vote something as good even it it is not my personal taste.
The unfortunate result of this is that the ratings really don't mean much if they are between 25% and 75%.
But, I agree that people that vote something down should leave a message stating why they did so. - Jun 14 2009

You have a good balance between making them detailed, having them look realistic, and having them easy to see. Too much detail makes icons hard to see in small sizes, yet most users want realistic looking icons.
The 16x16s could use a little more optimization. It is more important to be able to see them than to have them exactly match the gradients and shading of the larger sizes. You may find that in some cases, it is better not to AA the fonts and/or you may need to use more contrast.
A technical suggestion:
It is a good idea to have a space around the image in the larger sizes, but there should be less space in the small sizes. In the case of you icons this would apply only to the width. So, I would suggest that the 32x32 only have on pixel on each side of the folder and in 16x16 that the folder should be the full 16 pixels wide. The reason for this is that with a 16x16 icon not using 2 pixels of width is a lot to waste.
I also notice that your Manila is a much different color than mine which is 255, 220, 168.
Also, you really only need to make 16x16, 22x22, 24x24, 32x32, & 48x48 if you also make an SVG formated at 128x128 pixels. 32x32 & 48x48 are optional and only needed if the scaled SVG doesn't look good enough.
This didn't used to work but I found this week that the bug in KDE has been fixed and it will use the SVG and scale it if there is no PNG of the requested size.
So, you can try to learn InkScape as your next project. :-) - Jun 02 2007

KDE has standards for icons and they should be followed.
IAC, you need to supply icons for the menu entry. - Mar 06 2007

However, it is necessary that "previous" not be the same as "back" and that "next" not be the same as "forward" since all four of them might appear on a toolbar and then there is a problem. - Sep 29 2006

However, one of the major things which it needs to do is to track dependencies.
For example:
I install an RPM and it has unresolved dependencies on some libraries. The package manager needs to check and see if I actually have these libraries installed and if so, go ahead and install the RPM.
I have a library that I built from source and I want to know which other stuff depends on it. The package manager should be able to tell me this by building a data base from the ld.so.cache. - Jul 07 2006

Do people mean that they don't like HiColor or that these are not good HiColor icons. HiColor icons are needed as a fallback icon theme to be used when themes don't have the required icon.
So, people that use CrystalSVG probably don't need HiColor icons, but people that use other themes do need them.
Or, if you use KDEClassic, you can simply use these as KDEClassic for some of the missing icons. - May 25 2006

I presume that your application requires certain Kernel options enabled to work. Could you PLEASE share this information with us!!!
It would be a GREAT help if you could include a text file that listed the options in the linix/.config file that need to be set to build a Kernel that would work with your app. - Feb 24 2006

Most GPL software contains a copyright notice in the source code. That doesn't mean that you don't have a license to use it.
In this case, this is a registered trademark of KDE so you can only use it with KDE. I don't see this as a problem. - Dec 20 2005

They are better because they are HiColor icons. So, welcome to my side of the HiColor vs. CrystalSVG debate. :-)
I think that the existing KDEClassic icon for "facing" is better. Facing pages are connected like in a book.
However, I do like your icon for "continuous". I think that we should consider it. You might need to make some minor changes so the style exactly matched the existing KDEClassic "facing" icon. - Sep 03 2005

We have CrystalSVG which many consider artistic, but it is lacking when it comes to usability because they lack a full tonal range.
We see many other icons which are very artistic, but they have too much detail for even 32x32.
Such icons (CrystalSVG and ones with too much detail) render as fuzzy colored blobs in 22x22 and 16x16. - Aug 06 2005

Did I do a poor job collecting them?
Did I do a poor job making the 22x22 icons using cubic oversampling with The GIMP.
Do you not like the Kexi icon?
I do Crystal icons too. But, these are HiColor icons ...
It makes no sense to give this a poor rating because you don't use HiColor icons. Understand?? - Jun 03 2005

Some of these appear to be artifacts of the Style since I do not have them with HiColor Classic. This style looks cleaner, but the Konqueror status bars would probably still look better without as much detail.
Some of these are going to be style specific or just might not work.
You also need to make the distinction between the window frame and the main window of what it holds. I don't think that it is possible to integrate these two. - Nov 26 2004

You can fix the contrast of PNG files of these with The GIMP by using the "Levels" dialog. If an icon lacks "Value"s 1 - 127, you can proportionately darken all of the "Value"s 128-255 to fix the problem.
Your program could probably also do this with SVG files. - Jul 19 2004
