Any screenshots of the GTK? I don't download anything without a screen :) - Feb 13 2009

Thanks for the reply. It would make sense that that's the problem, but it's not consistent with the activity when I'm running other themes. Using Clearlooks for example, Synaptic uses the same GTK theme as everything else. The only noticable difference running, say, a gksudo nautilus is that the icons revert to standard gnome. Does the Clearlooks theme specifies itself as the root theme as well while EB just omits this and falls back on a more basic theme? - Dec 11 2008

Same warning here also. So far I've only noticed it to affect Synaptic which swaps to what looks like Raleigh. Error message looks like it's meant to say which engine is missing, but there's nothing between the quotes. - Nov 21 2008

Nevermind... got it work. Had to add 7zip support since it isn't standard on Ubuntu. Could be nice to mention it up front.

Thanks for a great icon set! - Oct 25 2008

Um... you seem to have chosen a windows-only format (.7z) for this. Linux seems to know it's an archive, but will not open it. "Archive type not supported" and all that. Renaming to the common Linux formats makes no difference. It looks great, but how am I supposed to use it?

There are a few font installation guides out there. I'd suggest "Ubuntu hardy font installation" in your search engine of choice. Success will no doubt follow. The distro forums will probably have what you need, too (the above-mentioned search is likely to put you there anyway). - Sep 15 2008

Glad to hear it! Font is Perspective Sans which I got from dafont.com. It's either free or GPL, but it only really works at around 40pt size or lower (the roundness has glitches that show up when larger). - Aug 29 2008

The font is Perspective Sans (it's either GPL or just free. I got it at dafont.com)

Wallpaper can be found in the "abstract" section at the gnome art website.

I'm glad you like it. My goal is to eventually build/acquire the necessary GUI artwork for something that looks as good as OSX or Vista but doesn't look *like* them. - Aug 12 2008

Just in case this is a problem at your or your host's end: I've DLed and installed the red, green and black versions without a hitch, but with the white, the tarball looks fine and downloads w/o an error message, but the icon set fails every time on install. I've tried extracting it, I've re-DLed a few times, and I can't see any obvious problems in the index file. I'd like to have the set, but I can't find an alternate source. Any ideas? - Jul 16 2008

Using it is the best compliment, so thanks!

This is one I had to learn when I picked up Scaled Black Mod. This is the *.CGWD file and you want the *.Emerald file, so you have two options: 1) Look under the Emerald(Beryl?) listings (instead of compiz). I've posted a *.Emerald there. 2) Just change the extension on the file you have from ".cwgdtheme" (or whatever) to ".emerald"

Just a note: get used to option two. Not many people post both formats.

Cheers! And thanks for showing interest. - May 01 2008

Vista-ish? Is that 'cause of the transparency? I guess, but I feel like that's similar to saying firefox is explorer-ish because it has a 'back' button.

I would like to do something a little better and more thorough in the future, but I'm in the thick of my last semester of a Philosophy degree. That means a buttload of reading and papers; no time for hobbies.

I'm hoping to pull a spiffy pixmap from a blender project in the future. - Apr 07 2008

Thanks, and yes, Scaled Black was the foothold for this. It was the first decent window decorator I found (have used Linux for only a couple months now), but the edges were too harsh for my taste. I had the same beef with the stock themes in windows (I now use the Royale or Zune themes when I'm in XP). - Mar 23 2008

I'm not quite sure what you mean, but I'll make a few guesses and answer them.

1) I was under the impression that smaller would actually save space (as opposed to the giant docks some people have).

2) They're centered because I like it that way. having them as is, but on the left or right wouldn't save me any space.

3) I have two because they aren't always small. My bottom one can easily fill the width of the screen if I have a few more more windows open. The top one can expand quite a bit, too if I put the user swap back in and my notifier fills up a bit. Putting all of this in one panel just cramps everything beyond usefulness. Also, I hate the panel drawers.

I hope one of these answers the question. - Mar 23 2008

I agree. If anything needs a bit of tweaking, it's the buttons. I'd like to soften them up a bit to suit the theme better. I'll probably update when the semester's over. - Mar 22 2008

I found it either at gnome-look or gnome art...

Actually I found it:
