Thanks for the nice skin. One I found is the selection text in the Ubiquity screen, when the mouse cursor isn't over the texts, then they're invisible: http://image.bayimg.com/babomaadc.jpg

I prefer a white colored panel instead of black, it doesn't seem to fit. - Dec 05 2010

Some of the things you mentioned are out of his hands since they are not directly related to the skin. The tray icons for example is a problem with all skins so it has to be up to the GNOME people to deal with.

The GnoMenu stuff are located in: /usr/share/gnomenu/Themes. You can open those images with GIMP as root, then use "hue" option to change the colors.

The "show desktop" applet for Gnome panel uses the file: ~/.icons/Win2-7/apps/desktop.png. You can edit it into a blank transparent image of 32x128 pixels. Then put "show desktop" applet on the right corner of the panel. See my http://s20.photobucket.com/albums/b233/eksasol/UbuntuWin27.jpg

The only unfortunate about this image is its takes a long time to make it like that. So you will have to spend some times to edit things yourself. I'm hoping for GNOME 3 to become more customizable , I've already seen it with the Aero-like feature. It will help gain more linux users. Then it will save all of us the times wasted on customizing and making themes. - Mar 23 2010

Although you are generous with helping the users, please don't knock yourself over with providing technical supports. Take sometime off once a while. - Feb 26 2010

The only thing I don't like is the Win OS icons :\. I liked my original Ubuntu ones better.
The image file for the start menu icon is located at: /home/username/.icons/Win2-7/filesystems/start-here.png
You can find another icon and replace it with that file.

Jesus: You're doing great job. This theme really help ease users moving from Windows.
I think it's a good idea to replace your start-here.png with the one I sent to you. I agree with him this one don't look that great. - Feb 26 2010

Well I guess I can set the delay time for pop up list to 2000ms, would be nice to have the option to disable it. I notice the "Human Bar" theme displayed the number of opened windows which would give enough info. That's more advance than the Apple's dock with a single white dot.

Sorry if I'm sounding like whining, though I'm not. - Mar 20 2010
Thank you very much for recommending the alternative even though it might competes with your. I prefer individual icons for each windows so I can differentiate between them. I still think your applet is great, so you don't have to change it because of me, but here is my feedback on the idea of grouped icon:

I think your idea of left clicking on a "grouped icon" to display all windows is effective. It could better, if you can left click on the same "grouped icon" again to minimize all windows.

Currently, in the settings, there is no setting to do that for the left button, yet the setting is available for other mouse buttons.

So basically, left click to show all windows and left click again to minimize all windows would work for me. Possibly even disable pop up list for "grouped icon", a feauture which I never use because the texts are small (pop up list, a feature I remembered from Windows XP taskbar, in fact I dislike Windows 7 thumbnailing behavior too). - Mar 20 2010
Thank you for this excellent applet.

Unfortunately for me it is unusable because of the grouping. It makes it not possible to multitask. However, this is true for Windows 7 as well.

Now if there was a way to disable grouping, then it would be very usable. - Mar 18 2010

Of-course a small percentage of the graphic seen above are taken from the theme "Windows 7 basic theme lookalike" by Nemmeth, I used his as a base, but replaced 90% of the materials. Although I won't release any works by other without permission. I don't actually want to upload anything right now. - Jan 16 2010
Funny that we ended up with the exact same looking thing while working separately.

Recently, I found out I can skin Ubuntu to look like Windows 7 and did some work to port 7 graphics over to Ubuntu while using some skin from this site as a guide. I never meant to release my works because I am not sure on the copyright laws and I don't want to end up infringing Microsoft. Also even if was going to upload them, I would rather do it at another website where it can be better appreciated and reach wider audience, I don't particularly enjoy reading over the immature comments from the hater groups.

But, if you guys are interested, I can send over all of the artworks I've done and maybe you can reuse or or release it, although I probably don't think it is necessary anyway because I think your version is better than mine. I also have a Windows 7 button made and a better looking skin for the start menu (imo).

It's funny how we get the exact same problem with the Minimize button having a line to the left of it, I know it has to do with the "right_titlebar_edge" setting and goes away if you lower its value or turn off visual effects, but I could never figure out how to get it working correctly while being 8 pixels from the corner.

Anyway I'm glad you're onto this, so now I don't have to continue working on my version.

PS. Can anyone show me how to get the Aero transparent frame? I heard of Emerald and installed it, but I don't know how to use it. - Jan 16 2010
