Amarok 2.x Scripts by berkowitz 138 comments

LyricWiki code needs to be changed, due to the fact the API access for getting lyrics has been shutting down. But you can just use HTML scraping instead.

You just need to replace this file:

with this one:

Hopefully the official package will be updated soon. - Aug 04 2009

OK, I tracked down a tarball via a src.rpm. It doesn't build out of the box, but it is here:

To get it to build, you need autotools. If you have autoconf 2.6 or newer, you have to hack the 'admin/' script, replacing 2.5 with 2.6 in appropriate places -- or just replace it with the one I made:

make -f Makefile.cvs

Then the usual. - Apr 05 2008

It seems this is dead now -- none of the links work. Shame... - Apr 05 2008

You are right - I only discovered CopyCover ( after I wrote this. In fact, I probably wouldn't have written this script if the description of CopyCover on included the fact that it had a mode that worked for tracks that are not currently playing. - Jul 24 2007

You mean it should make a copy of image in the folder? That seems messier to me. You can locate the cover image by looking at the .directory file.

Also, I may be getting myself into trouble with Amazon copyright. Currently Amarok handles the Amazon copyright issues itself, and it seems safer to leave it that way. - Jul 24 2007

Thanks, I didn't realise that Amarok's Get Hot New Stuff linked into kde-apps. I've fixed it now. - Jul 24 2007

This themes gobbles *lots* of CPU. Anything you can do? It seems to be constantly running bash/sed/lesspipe or something. - Jun 20 2006

I get exactly the same thing, and I'm using the 0.2 tarball (as the other poster also said he was). The tarball is broken (or at least the INSTALL instructions are wrong, but the former is much more likely). - Feb 24 2006

"No license whatsoever" means that we are not allowed to do anything with it -- that's normal copyright law. To avoid that, you have to explicitly grant permissions to us. I think what you mean is you are putting it in the public domain. - Jan 06 2006

As well as the new features, the above issues are fixed in version 0.2, with strcasecmp being used as kundor rightly pointed out. - Jan 05 2006

Have a look at the debian package 'cruft' before tackling debian/dpkg support, as it does a lot of that for you - Oct 28 2005

You might want to think how this will integrate with internationalisation of the folder names. I think that providing good translations of these folder names to sensible words in different languages would be better than allowing renaming. - Jul 19 2005

The shell script creates temporary files in a rather insecure way, unless I'm missing something (i.e. predictable filename, vulnerable to symlink attack).

mktemp is part of debianutils, an essential package, so will be present on all Kubuntu installations and can be used to fix this. - May 12 2005

Yes, searching in the KJV is slow - it seems to be much faster in some other modules e.g. MKJV - Jun 07 2004
