Thanks! That quote actually is part of my conky, it's a script that pulls quotes from and then plops them on the desk. I'm not too familiar with Tolle, sadly. - Dec 27 2009
Yeah the widget-factory screen doesn't do it justice, especially in thumbnail form. It's just a simple theme that doesn't do anything fancy. Stays out of your way and looks smooth.

Thanks for the feedback! - Apr 27 2009
Thanks! There are a few more things I'd like to do, but I'm not positive they can be done solely with the Murrine engine.

Plus I probably need to learn how to make a metacity theme so the GNOME folk aren't left high and dry. - Apr 27 2009

PERFECTION. Azenis comes in a close second, but the dark blue Laga icons just suit this amazingly well. I put it with the Digital Blasphemy wall with the sort of neon-blue mushrooms and holy crap. - Oct 24 2009

It's all good, I came across as more abrasive than I meant to. My bad, there. - Jan 17 2009
No I agree, and I really like the overall design here, it just has a lot of unused blank space and that's keeping me from using it full-time. I'm currently using the ASN Suite I found here (, and I think a really compacted theme here would be pretty spot-on.

I didn't mean to come across like I was insulting ya or anything, on the contrary I never comment on themes I outright dislike, only the ones that I really like but would love to see one or two tweaks on. - Jan 15 2009
Tell me, though, what's inherently minimalist about that theme. That seems "minimalist" because it's on a desktop with no panels, no icons, no conky, no screenlets, and a blank wallpaper. The GTK itself is just lacking gradients and sharp contrasts.

The reason I brought up the compact versions of those themes is because that aids in minimalism. I'm an Arch/Openbox user that likes to have things as seamless as I can with as much real estate usable as possible. What you've done here is eliminate constrast and sharp edges, which is less "minimal" and more "eye-straining".

And as for TWF, all I know is that when I use Aurora Compact, Clearlooks compact, and a few others of the same ilk, buttons are smaller. This one has large 'uns. Also the toolbar row in the file manager is way bigger. - Jan 07 2009
Yeah, it's threadbare and doesn't have a lot of glitz all over, but it's pretty fat. Wide scrollbars, big buttons, a lot of wasted space. Take a look at something like Clearlooks-Flat-Compact or Aurora-Compact.

The idea of a minimalist GTK theme is no wasted real estate, and unfortunately I see a lot here, although I -really- like where it's headed. - Jan 06 2009

Fix -> Simple. Open up the gtkrc in gedit/leafpad/nano and go down to line 110. Change the word 'style' to 'profile'. Bam.

I'm an openbox user, so editing GTK themes means opening up the gtkrc file and tweaking it manually. I'm mostly lazy, but I also don't fully understand how the file works. :P

But yes, my point was that I love the theme but would love an all black/gray version of it (I'm currently using Agray but it's not QUITE compact enough for me). In the meantime I'll see if I can re-color this without breaking it. - Nov 08 2008

I don't like two things: the button borders and the scrollbar. The buttons don't blend because of that sort of "lip" or bevel around them, it takes away from the great sleek, flat look. Also I'm just not a fan of that scrollbar.

Otherwise we're off to a great start! - Nov 06 2008

I disagree. It makes it look unified rather than as though the bars are separate pieces glued together. One reason I like such themes. - Oct 26 2008
Sorry, I tend to use odd phrases like that.

Anyway, I mean things like make the blank space in tabs smaller, push the menu headers together, things like that. Shrink the blank space. Take a look at, for example, Clearlooks-flat-compact for an idea of how one can reduce "wasted space".

It's just a thought, if you find it takes away from the aesthetic of the theme, leave it the way it is. I'm using the theme now and loving it regardless. :) - Oct 23 2008

This is the most amazing thing I've seen on Gnome-Look so far. From being able to customize the colors of folders to changing the icons for half of the apps, I'm just floored. There is no reason this theme couldn't work with ANYONE's desktop. - Oct 09 2008
Can't do that, they're too vibrant! The vast bulk of these icons match perfectly with a more colorful theme, just the folders seem plain by comparison.

Love the Firefox icon by the way. - Sep 24 2008

That new scrollbar is just awful. I mean, it's a big fat thing that spoils an otherwise pretty sleek theme. I'm using it now, but I had to delete the scrollbar folder entirely and modify the GTKRC to trim it down a la ClearGlow. Now it's good stuff. - Sep 19 2008

Anyway, the funny thing is that I never installed this theme. I looked at the preview and noticed that you have the Slickness menubar with a non-slickness border, which looks bad. I commented, you assumed I was talking about something on GNOME and went on the offensive.
