I've made some progress; UnityDecoration and UnityPanel bgcolor done, UnityDecoration menubar menuitem color done. The remaining are not so important, but I'll try if I can as a second stage.

Here is a file showing the changes I've made so far:
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B7EHkKCNZtpuN3FyZkQ4TEVndUk

And here are three screenshots regarding the outstanding (minor) issues:
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B7EHkKCNZtpuNmFLUHljbkhqQ1U
1) Do you have any idea how the window control buttons in the top picture? (visible when I run sudo gedit or sudo nautilus only - not sudo any other app - probably a headerbar - unity incompatibility that needs a little tweak)
2) Can you suggest what to do with the inconsistent menaubar hover behavior seen in the two pictures at the bottom? The standard hover effect (unity panel and all apps) is the one on the left (gedit) but all apps run as sudo display the one in the right (a dark grey box) which is also the same as nautilus location bar... - Jan 02 2017
No problem. These can be easily fixed I guess (you shouldn't have to switch to Unity for it ; -)
As an ordinary user who can only do some easy tweaks like changing bgcolors mentioned in item 1, it might be a bit challenging for me to try and do other tweaks for the rest, but I'll try, because it's a very beautiful theme :-) - Jan 02 2017
Thanks for this great theme!
It looks great under Ubuntu 16.10 (I can see it in Ubuntu Tweak and Unity Tweak Tool).
Here are some improvement suggestions:
1) It seems to me that using bgcolor #E0E0E0 instead of #BDBDBD in UnityDecoration and UnityPanel looks better (and like the new Gnome Headerbar in your screenshot). Otherwise we see 2 shades of grey in most gtk3 apps like nautilus and gedit, but 3 shades of grey in some apps like Synaptic Package Manager run as root because their toolbar is even much lighter.
2) Another Unity issue probably: with the new option for global menu in local windows, we have the color of menu items on the titlebar in a white color
3) A third Unity issue, it seems app windows have a thin white border (left, right and bottom), which I can see better on both sides of the location/toolbar in Nautilus and Chrome, but the UnityDecoration (titlebar) doesn't seem to have it; showing an open-ended thin white line there.
4) Finally, as a general remark, I think it might be a good idea to have the same window control buttons throughout. I see a different set of buttons when I run nautilus or gedit as root, which are not in "assets", "metacity-1" or "unity" subfolders. - Dec 29 2016
Thanks! Can you also add Unity support for Ubuntu users please? The only issue I've seen so far is the toolbar bgcolor in gtk2 apps (unlike gtk3) not matching the toolbar bgcolor. - Aug 06 2016

I use the following script when I switch between one of your cursor themes :-)

I thought I might share this simple bash script (to be used by simply entering appropriate values displayed with a strong emphasis) here as it might perhaps be helpful for some users of Ubuntu/Gnome Desktop Environments:

Quote:

#!/bin/bash
# Add the cursor theme to the corresponding group of alternatives
sudo update-alternatives --install "/usr/share/icons/default/index.theme" x-cursor-theme "$HOME/.icons/<CursorThemeName>/index.theme" <CursorSize>
# Choose the cursor theme
sudo update-alternatives --config x-cursor-theme
# Apply the user's cursor theme
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface cursor-theme <CursorThemeName>
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface cursor-size <CursorSize>
# Modify the user's .Xresources file
sed -i "s/^Xcursor\.theme\:\s*.\+$/Xcursor\.theme\: <CursorThemeName>/g" "$HOME/.Xresources"

I think it's a bright idea to make an "all-in-one" cursor theme, but - as it often happens with such bright new ideas - developers of this or that desktop environment are not yet ready for this it seems ;-)

The problem with Unity is the cursor size setting.

Unity does not provide this setting in its shiny GUI! You have to enter a terminal command like "gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface cursor-size 35" (for a medium-size sky-blue cursor) which apparently Unity does not like ;-) Probably developers thought they should correct any possible wrong setting that might be entered by users. So after each login this cursor-size is automatically "corrected" by changing it to 24!

I think this should be considered as a Unity bug as they should allow users to use any sensible size for their cursor.

But until they change this behavior it seems Unity users should either choose another cursor theme or add a small startup script to apply this "unusual" cursor-size every time they login. - Apr 10 2016

That's interesting, because when I use GTX theme as is, my Unity panel (Ubuntu 15.10) appears as if it has been omitted, i.e. with a solid blue background.
And when I uncomment the contents of unity.css file, I looks like the window title bars with the exception of an almost invisible title text, e.g. Ubuntu Desktop.
That's why I've made such a suggestion.

On the other hand, Unity Panel background is of course a matter of personal preference, and can be easily customized. It's entirely up to you how to make the default setting.
I personally prefer it to look exactly the same as window title bars for the sake consistency with the appearance one gets when any window is maximized. - Mar 10 2016
Thanks a lot!

You've made the hover effect in Nautilus sidebar much better than the code I borrowed from, I think, the Greybird theme, I still prefer Greybird window control buttons though as a personal customization ;-)

Thanks a lot for this update.

As you might know, trastes, the author of the legendary Mediterranean Themes has been unfortunately nowhere in sight for some time, and there have also been 2 (sort-lived) attempts to keep that nice theme suite going.

  • http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Medilight?content=167422 (it seems vinceliuice lost interest in the theme)

  • https://github.com/rbrito/mediterranean-gtk-themes (it seems rbrito also lost interest in the theme)

  • So I very much hope you can continue maintaining this superb theme (perhaps without enlarging it too much ;-)

As a form of support, I'll be glad to make suggestions like this:

unity.css: content needs to be uncommented, and also the .unity-panel section needs Quote:
    color: @theme_fg_dark_color;
    text-shadow: 0px 1px @theme_shadow_dark_color;

A little help would be much appreciated to fix this. - Nov 15 2015

If interested, here's a way to implement this:

Use "gtk-widgets-assets.css" from the new (GTK-3.18) Mavericks theme here: http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Mavericks?content=174324 only adding any missing lines from Snowbird theme.

I understand that there are two approaches to check-boxes and radio-buttons at the moment: (1) showing only the selected/enabled ones (e.g. Snowbird, Greybird, etc.) and (2) showing all (e.g. Zukitwo, Vertex Light).

I personally think the second approach is more useful as there are quite a few cases when the user is left quite in the dark about the choices available when you can't see a check-box or radio-button that you can select unless you are very familiar with that application/tool.
I think the understandable choice for a cleaner workspace shouldn't make life difficult for average user.
Of course, the final decision is yours ;-)
Perhaps the users can just use a tweak for this (maybe by providing a simple script to enable/disable such a feature?) - Nov 09 2015
I liked this theme more than similar others (e.g. Greybird, Zukitwo, Vertex Light).
However there's a minor problem with thunderbird which doesn't exist in others (maybe necessary tweak can be found by having a look at them) and it is that thin line popping up when you click the application menu that appears on the title bar when you hover on it.
BTW we also have that line permanently from the start (i) in TB addressbook and compose windows, (ii) between toolbar and tabbar in some GTK2 apps (excluding Chrome browser), and (iii) between standard and format toolbars in LibreOffice). - Nov 09 2015
Thanks a lot for this nice theme!
I like Mac-style themes in general but not those traffic lights at the top right corner ;-)
So my suggestion for like-minded users is to try alternative window control buttons used in themes like Greybird and Faience (also Zukitwo, Mediterranean.* etc. maybe?) - Nov 07 2015

I agree with those graphic designers who treat the File Manager as an app and therefore create an app icon for it instead of simply using the generic folder icon from the "places" sub-directory. And I think one of the best FM app icons (if not the best) is the one created for Ubuntu recently by "thieum".

So, if I may, here's a blue variant (although far from perfect) to match this great icon theme: https://www.dropbox.com/s/aisy3i95w5ogsq4/Emerald_system-file-manager.svg?dl=0 - Nov 15 2015
As a very very modest contribution, if you like, I've created one by merging the dropbox app icon into the generic folder icon:
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/urxlkwor9ueg20n/Emerald_folder-dropbox.svg?dl=0 - Nov 07 2015
    Thanks in advance.
On second thought, I personally decided that avoiding Breeze-style icons in the tray (Ubuntu top panel) will be better for consistency there. Otherwise it's very difficult (at least now) to change all icons appearing there - e.g. my-weather-indicator and many others who use their own traditional mono-dark or mono-light icons with no matching Breeze-style alternatives. - Nov 07 2015
    5) Also "folder-dropbox" icon is missing. - Nov 06 2015
    Thanks a lot for this.

    1) I think Breeze-style Dropbox status icons would look better. I tried but couldn't do better than this clumsy thing:
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/b0xs3ecnk0iv1pq/breeze-dropbox-status.zip?dl=0
But I still can see a glimpse of the previous (fallback) black dropbox when syncing in addition to my blue Breeze-style one.

    2) The "/status/symbolic" directory needs clipboard manager icons (for example, I've copied "edit-paste.svg" as "clipit-trayicon.svg") and redshift status icons (I've copied those from Nitrux theme)

    3) I've got a better (I think) Desktop folder icon after I deleted all copies of that mime-type icon (/apps/scalable/desktop.svg, cs-desktop.svg, preferences-desktop-wallpaper.svg, show-desktop.svg, user-desktop.svg, utilities-desktop-extra.svg and /categories/scalable/preferences-desktop-tweaks.svg) and I think it might even look better in the same blue color as folder icons.

    4) The main Emerald theme lacks indicator-keyboard-LANG icons that are present in Emerald Dark - I think they would look better in Breeze style.

    5) Finally, Synaptic Package Manager toolbar has a color icon for "Mark All Upgrades" unlike others. - Nov 06 2015

    Another improvement suggestion:
If you look at the toolbars in a number of applications (e.g. LibreOffice, gedit, Chrome, Synaptic) in different modes (focussed, hover, unfocussed) you can see that they are not consistent. ( I think the look of gedit toolbar is the worst and LibreOffice is the best ;-)
Maybe you might like to make all these have the same looks in the next version.
I think this theme is now getting much better than Ambiance and it might well deserve a name on its own (and even get its own - better matching - window control buttons in due course). - Oct 29 2015
Just a couple of tweaks could make this theme even better than the original (Ambiance) such as:

    1. Removing black outlines in the toolbar of Gedit, etc. (perhaps in window control buttons as well) - maybe replacing them with a little darker shade of the background color?
