Most of the tricky ones are video types. MP4 video names can end in .m4v, to show dumber applications that the file contains both video and audio. Quicktime movies can end in either .mov or .qt. An AVI video would be named with .divx if, I assume, it was encoded with DivX to begin with.

I don't think there's any way for the icon set to tell these apart, so it's probably best to just pick the most common or recognizable extension in each case. - Jun 13 2010
Wonderful monochrome icons. I love that the sharp outline is maintained at each of the different sizes you've created.

If you choose to continue, I'd be careful of icons for file types that can have more than one extension. I hope I can use these as a complete desktop icon theme someday. :) - Jun 13 2010

Don't worry. I was once knighted Raine Trollsbane Sabaal by the mighty (and redundant) HyperText Monarch Lord of Webshire. Trophies of shattered keyboards and pizza-smeared neckties adorn shrines not of my own creation, wholly dedicated to my noble triumphs throughought the vast spread of the cosmos.

I'm so flattered that you decided to name a whole state after me, but I must confess that I'm no politician, so I pray highly that you don't hope to burden me with a permanent leadership title. My first and only order of business, as you can see from the map, is to build a wall around the atrocious molester-prison of Pedophiladelphia. Not to keep the pedophiles in, mind you, as I'm certain you'd find some sneaky way of kinda leap-jumping over it or something, but rather to keep unsuspecting children out. Unfortunately, this means your confused nephew won't be able to visit you for comfort on his weekends any more.

Beyond that, I'd have to relinquish power to those more fit (and elected) to wield it. If that means I must live under a rainbow flag, so be it. Such is the price of blithe governmental ignorance. - Apr 23 2010

Anything else you'd like to prove before I rock your world? No?

Then here it is: I still don't care! I don't know what Linus Torvalds, Richard Nixon, or my grandfather look like either. Since I've also never met any of those people, it doesn't matter. Your desperate reliance on this crucial point is probably what makes you better than me or something, right?

I'm quite sure you've lost your bowels at such a relentless badgering, so I'll leave you to clean up after yourself. Time to go pester you in another, less messy thread. - Apr 23 2010
Nope. Makes no difference to me if he's President Obama or something. Never met the guy in person, so I've no reason to give a damn what he looks like, regardless of your subtly impending revelation.

Why, is he important? :P - Apr 22 2010
Shouldn't you be uploading it? ;)

'Sides, how do you think I saw this? It's not like there's literally hundreds of thousands of other sites dedicated to real porn or anything. I was obviously so turned on by your picture of some fat guy that I had to scour your profile for signs that you might have uploaded more.

I took the liberty of uploading this to, which is what I use for all my filesharing. They're free, unlimited-ish, they've got a ridiculous list of features, and they don't plaster you with ads, captchas, and useless wait times. They assume you'll be handing out links to their (very well-designed) download pages, but digging through the embed tags will find you a direct link if you need it.

I'd have a hard time matching a desktop theme to this, but it's something I'd be happy to have on a website, or on any of my mobile devices.

I see the signature here as a shortcoming: while I believe artists should identify their work, this particular one distracts the eye from the rest of the image. Perhaps if the glow was removed?

I'm also curious about how this was created. I've tried my hand at abstract patterns like this, but they never seem to blend so naturally for me. - Nov 14 2009

This is a virtually identical palette swap of this "artist's" five other themes, all labeled somewhat long-windedly with Microsoft trademarks. I suspect this is nothing but a covert advertisement or propaganda trick, but even if it isn't, it amounts to absolutely no effort or ingenuity, and won't be supported with my praise. Sorry for the harsh words, but that's how I feel.

This reminds me a lot of the "high-tech" GUIs you always see in bad action movies, where the user is typing constantly without using the spacebar and twelve windows somehow appear, blink a few times, and start doing things that have nothing to do with text.

Which is completely awesome. Nice job. :D - Jan 06 2009

Why not do away with the background layer altogether? KDE draws a user-defined color behind the wallpaper by default; if the backgrounds of these images were transparent, that color would show through. ;)

Not even sure why you're bashing KDE on a KDE website. Do you think you're going to change someone's mind? Do you think you won't be bashed senseless by innumerable comments detailing every reason that you're so wrong? Do you really think you'll make any difference at all?

The quality of this photograph is not an issue. It's a bit blurry, but otherwise unremarkable.

Rather, I wouldn't use something like this as a wallpaper mainly because it's too... what's the word... cluttered? Well, not exactly cluttered, but there's many sharp edges and shapes that draw the eye away from important icons and text. That's why super-up-close photos are so popular; they are very sharp and finely detailed, but they aren't distracting.

Of course, that's just my own opinion. I won't bash you for uploading wallpapers that YOU like. ;) - Oct 18 2006

Why don't you add a third panel in the lower-right corner, and set its background to look like a "joint" between the bottom and right panels? You can keep the clock on that, and move the system tray over to the bottom panel.

I dunno how that would actually look. I just thought it would be cool to have one huge-ass panel that doesn't even fit against one edge of the screen, so it has to be bent. :P - Oct 15 2006

I tried the first line in the instructions, and after a bunch of yes/no check that went by too fast for me, I got a "configure error: Can't find X includes!" message. I have no idea what this means, so, of course, I can't fix it myself. A penny for anyone's thoughts? - Jan 10 2006
