In the words of George W. Bush: "Free speech goes both ways."

Free speech means that you have the right to proclaim your views on an equal basis as anyone who has a view at the polar opposite of yours. Whether you agree with it or not, the poster has a right to express their viewpoint.

The same standard should be applied to the Ku Klux Klan, Rev. Al Sharpton, Muslims, Christians, Jews, etc.

If you enjoy your freedom of speech, then let everyone else excercise theirs. - Jun 06 2004

Cool looking "cartoonish" icons like these and Crystal are why I love KDE. It adds a fun visual element to my Linux experience.

Keep up the good work. Maybe, if it's too overwelming to do all the necessary icons, you could do like Elverado did and accept contributions by others to fill out the collection.

Those people icons are old Crystal icons. They're not related to Windows at all. Where are you guys coming up with this stuff? This login screen looks nothing like Windows except for the one background of the rolling hills. I think the artist did a very good job.

As far as Windows look and feel, you should know that KDE can be made to feel many different ways, from the Windows "look and feel", traditional Unix, and Macintosh as well. Most people come over from Windows and the look and feel they choose is the Windows one because of familiarity. This is why most distros setup KDE this way by default. However, you have the freedom to change it to look and behave anyway you want. This is what Linux is all about. - Nov 24 2003

Intollerance??? Have you read the Koran? It tells them to "slay the infidels" and defines infidels as Christians and Jews and anyone else that is a non-believer. It also tells them to keep slaves too. So who are you calling intollerant?

I think these icons look really nice. However, I continue to use Crystal for one reason - depth of icons. Every iconset I've used other than standard KDE and Crystal icons are far too incomplete. Too often, only 60% of your icons are present and the rest are standard Hi-Color KDE icons. I know that making these takes a lot of work, but maybe, like Crystal, you can get submissions from others that can make them have enough for most people to use for more like 90% of their icons.

With that, I think you should really keep up the good work. These icons are beautiful and have a whole different flavor than the Crystal/Marble icons. - Oct 12 2003

Here's how to get the translucent menu going:

First off, it depends on the style you have installed. Some styles support it, others don't, and still Mosfet's Liquid is setup differently.

Most themes' menu transluceny can be set by going to Control Center->Appearance & Themes->Styles->Effects tab and checking the "Enable GUI Effects" checkbox and selecting "Make Translucent" in the "Menu Effect" drop down. Then, in the box below, set the translucency type and opacity. Now you can also add a drop shadow to make the effect really stand out by checking that checkbox as well. This works in Keramik, which is my preferred style.

Now, in Mosfet's Liquid, you go to Control Center->Appearance & Themes->Mosfet's Liquid and check the correct radio button for the type of translucency you want. If you choose "Custom Translucency" then you can choose the colors and the opacity. - Sep 26 2003

Okay, first off, I think these cursors are nice, yet maybe a little too cartoonish. That said, I like them enough that I'm using them.

Now the bad: only certain cursors work on my system.

Here's what I did: I first logged in as 'su', then did a 'make' and 'make install'. Then, like the install instructions on this web page said (why isn't all the directions in the same place?) I made a .icons/default/ directory and put the index.theme file in there and made another directory named 'cursors' in there and put the blue cursors in there from 'cursors' directory in the tarball. I restarted KDE and re-logged in and got the crystal cursor, but when it changes to the hand cursor, it's normal. Also, when I hover the cursor over the edges of a window, the arrow cursors are also normal.

These icons have the potential of being the best looking icons available for KDE if it weren't for one thing...those drive icons. They're just too plain and blue. All the icons that have more color look unbelievable. However, just about every icon for disks are just plain and just about the same shade of blue. If you'd throw a dash more of color in there to liven them up, they'd rule KDE! - Nov 12 2002

I actually prefer something a little simpler. I also like backgrounds that have nothing to do with Linux at all, like the Acura RSX Type-S background I have at the moment. Swweeeet! - Nov 06 2002

Secondly, not only has M$ ripped off the Mac over the years, but Unix as well for the Windows GUI. Where do you think the idea of the taskbar came from? The Unix dock!
