Could you please also add support for color schemes? Right now it uses a fixed color, but for some windows I override the background color setting. Many themes respect this, but in Adapta it seems like the color is hardcoded. I tried using fill:currentColor and then setting the class to ColorScheme-Background but this makes the background turn black for some reason. - Apr 02 2018

I'd change the way permissions are shown to the user. Many users (especially non-tech) will be clueless about -rw-r--r--, so instead visualize it by means of icons. Three groups, each having 3 icons. Then it would be perfect :) - Jun 03 2005

Heheh, I wish I could worry about silly things like that. School is taking my time again :(

No worries though, I've done some clearlooks engine work today. Expect a new release soon!

And about the website. It *is* very important. I need it to get user input. I only know what I like, but not what other people like, so the website will essentially be an aid in development. - Feb 14 2005
As y'all might have noticed, there was no new release last weekend. That's because I've been working on a website at http://clearlooks.sourceforge.net. It will contain a voting booth where you can vote for concepts. And maybe some other suprises, too :)

Development is still progressing though! - Jan 31 2005
Thank you very much for your comment. I have been running the half-rounded scrollbar theme for a few days now, and it hasn't bothered me at all, even though I run Firefox a lot :)

So I'll probably keep the half rounded (rounded only at the outside) look for the next version. Maybe eventually the Firefox people will try to make their app behave a little better. - Jan 31 2005
http://www.stellingwerff.com/sbr.png

I don't know why, but I kind of like the whole rounded look of the scrollbars now. I tried it before, but I thought it looked stupid... If I still like it tomorrow, I'm going with this look.

Unless anyone has a better idea? - Jan 28 2005
I've never had this issue before... Are you sure it only happens with Clearlooks? - Jan 28 2005
You should choose 'Theme Details' in gnome-theme-manager and then in the 'Controls' tab there should be a few Clearlooks themes.

If that's not the case, make sure you installed it with --prefix=/usr. If you did and it still doesn't work, then please let me know and I'll install Ubuntu Hoary (what a horrible name). - Jan 27 2005
Guess what, I just finished adding the new scrollbars! I'm not releasing it just yet, though (probably saturday).

But not all is good. Firefox is really pissing me off lately. Every kind of 'trick' that I perform to give Clearlooks a polished look is failing miserably. While most 'artifacts' aren't clearly visible and won't bother anyone but the nitpicker, the scrollbars are a greater deal.

Behold the following screenshot:
http://www.stellingwerff.com/sb.png

It's TERRIBLE! Firefox doesn't tell me the position of the scrollbars, so I can't determine whether a scrollbutton is the first of last button on the scrollbar. The result is that rounding isn't applied, so they look squared. This most likely happens with OpenOffice.org as well, since they are both very bad at pretending to be GTK+ apps.

But that's not all... I'm not sure if I like the half-rounded look of the scrollbars...

There are four things I can do now:
1) don't care about firefox, keep the roundings.
2) keep it squared like it was.
3) think of something else
4) make all corners rounded (like industrial)

Please let me know what you guys 'n girls think!

If you've got a good idea for a scrollbar, please email me some mockups!
If you're a coder an know how to make rounding work in Firefox as well, please email me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - Jan 27 2005
What?!!! I fixed it on the same day I released 0.2.2 but thought it wouldn't be such a big deal (with OOo being beta after all) so I didn't release an update... Still, I'm glad that the OOo folks fixed it on their part as well. - Jan 27 2005
I noticed a slight decline in score. This really hurts my feelings, and I don't think I like that :'(

So please, let me know how to improve Clearlooks! - Jan 24 2005
I will take a look at it, just for you. - Jan 23 2005

Thank you, I will try my best to hunt it down (don't worry, I've never failed). - Jan 21 2005
This bug has been reported before, and fixed. Next bugfix release is this weekend.

Unfortunately, 0.3 is taking a bit longer. - Jan 21 2005
Is that Ximian OpenOffice.org, or something else?

I have debian installed inside a virtual machine, but I'm not very familiar with it, so if you could tell me how to install it then I can try to hunt down the bug. - Jan 21 2005
I was using Tahoma on that screenshot. I got it from my Windows XP Home installation. - Jan 21 2005
Could you provide me a screenshot? You can email it to me, if you like. - Jan 21 2005
If you want, you can disable the 'deep' menubar by editing /usr/share/themes/ClearlooksGreen/gtk-2.0/gtkrc.
Look for the line that says "sunkenmenubar = 1" and change it to "sunkenmenubar = 0".

I might consider creating a sort of "Clearlooks customizer" where you can configure colors and other features. - Jan 21 2005
Wait, don't answer that! :P - Jan 17 2005
Unfortunately I have some tests at school this week, so I won't have time to fix it today. Hopefully tomorrow, but certainly wednesday.

Thank you for reporting this bug! By the way, which version of Evolution are you using? - Jan 17 2005
I'm sorry to report that 0.2 still has those hideous scrollbars... It appears to be a pita to figure out whether I'm drawing the top/left or bottom/right button, since they are both called the same...

Progressbar and menu(item)s are rounded this time, and the gradients are slightly different too.

There's no repository yet. I will create a project on sf.net soon, when I have some time. - Jan 15 2005
I have changed the menuitem highlight to make it more round. It looks better now.

I'm not sure if making the contrast lighter will make the theme look better per se. It might make it harder to focus on the button, but I'm not sure.

I have had an idea for the scrollbar, but I haven't been able to realize it yet. If you look at the mockup at http://www.stellingwerff.com/clearlooks/scrollbar2.png then you can see what I had in mind. It's not a big change, but it does look better. Rounding all the edges is feasable, but does not look as nice.

Stay tuned for version 0.2, which is due soon! - Jan 13 2005
First of all, thank you for your comment! I just had a look at the gnome-theme-manager, but the scrollbar through does not cross the text. Now, this might be a difference in GTK+ version. Which version of GTK+ 2 are you using?

Even though I can't reproduce the issue, I still have an idea how I could fix it. But if I can reproduce it with the same version of GTK+ you have, it'll be easier to fix :)

Also, which distribution are you using? It might be that some distro-specific patches are doing nasty things...

Now, about the menu highlight... Making it customizable is certainly possible. At least, choosing between two (or more) different styles is. If you could give me some ideas about a highlight style that would look nice, I'll be willing to try to implement it :) - Jan 09 2005
Sorry no, I'm using XFCE 4.2rc3, with the Tyrex theme. I can strongly recommend it though! - Jan 08 2005
But it's not pixmap based! :D

You probably thought so because I said "unlike _other_ pixmap based" but that's not what I meant. It's a pure C based engine, based on the Bluecurve code, and thus quite fast :)

Thank you for liking it! - Jan 08 2005

This icon is great, and I'll tell you why. It's easy to associate it with PDF. The icon is quite original, and browsing through a lot of (random) icons it would be easy to pick this one out if you were looking for it. That's why I dig it.

This icon is very underrated. - Oct 15 2004

Did people train her to use Windows XP, or Windows? You see, what people like you do not understand, is that it doesn't give a damn what it looks like. What's important is how it works. You can make KDE look like XP, but it will not work like XP. The dumb girl you just talked about will not be able to work with KDE just because it looks like XP. That will probably just add more to the confusion. - Sep 29 2004

Why is it that a lot of nice themes are pixmap based? This makes them a lot slower than native themes like industrial and bluecurve.

Something else, people would probably contribute a lot more if you had a working version. If someone could give me some pointers on creating a custom KDE menu, I might even start on it myself. - Apr 30 2004
The colors make it look very childish. Perhaps go with a somewhat more serious (but boring) color scheme, like this:
