To get a core dump you need to set a core dump limit. Most all distros have this set to 0 which disables them, this is because they can start to fill up directories and take up large amounts of space and your average user doesn't know what they are. So you need to use "ulimit -c (size in bytes)" to set the max size for a core dump. Set it to something really high, get your dump and backtrace it, then set it back to 0. - Jan 10 2004

I don't like this new pressure and summery map stuff. It takes WAY too long for the thing to load now and it just hangs there for awhile, not to mention how it opens a menu now when you want to see the doppler. I don't like added clicks. You are putting too much in it now, at least give an option somewhere of what information you want to load and be used.

Also it is silly that everytime a user changes ANYTHING it reloads from the net.... that isn't needed. If I change my icon set, I don't need it to go grab the weather again. (note: It did this when I changed the first time, but when I changed back it didn't update from the net).

I personally like the older version better, I only updated because it had a bug where it would say it was updating the weather info, but it never would. I would have to change my location again and then it would get the new weather.

Oh oh, and one other thing, if you change your loc and use a zip code, shouldn't that automatically set your continent to north america? - Sep 21 2003

wow... worst of both worlds is more like it. You managed to pair one of the worst linux distros (IMHO) with the worth windows edition (in pretty much everyone's opinion). Plus there is really nothing new you are showing here. I have run versions of windows inside linux for years now using VMware, although I am pretty much phased out any need for this now and just stick to linux. - Sep 25 2003

well I know if you are on Redhat and you just install a src RPM with "rpm -Uvh " instead of building it, it will just put the source code into the directory "/usr/src/redhat/SOURCES/" I would assume you get a similar effect on other distros. Try that if you just want the source. - Apr 08 2003

Mine is MUCH MUCH more BlueCurve. I just replaced the KDE action icons for which BlueCurve had nothing made. Redhat just stuck in KDE defaults for the icons they didn't make. I just replaced those defaults. EVERY actual BlueCurve icon is in my set. - Apr 02 2003
I did a similar thing right after the 8.0 release called BlueCrystal.

Well you can obviously make minor tweaks like that yourself. I have actually changed the colors SLIGHTLY myself since I uploaded. I don't EVER use plain white because he hurts my eyes, it is all preference.

And the option I THINK you are asking about can be changed in Kcontrol under Appearances & Themes/Panels/Advanced Options. You have to have KDE 3.1 for this. You can do it in previous versions of KDE but you have to edit your kickerrc file so that is contains the line FadeOutAppletHandles=true in the [General] Section. - Apr 02 2003

I love seeing anti-MS stuff, I don't always make it my wallpaper or anything, but it is just amusing. Especially when I find 5 news stories each day giving me reasons to hate them. The people that bitch about MS the most are the people that see MS doing evil shit everywhere they turn. I personal fav MS joke is at my University in the Comp Sci building. There has been a "Made for Windows 98" Sticker in one of the urinals for like 2 years now. I think in most building it would have been "cleaned off" by now, but in the CS department it has just become part of the building 8) - Nov 04 2002

Ok, I know this gets said a lot on this page, but this is a horrible example of taking credit for others work. This exact wallpaper has been added by default on MANY distros for MANY years (it may actually be part of KDE). I am surprised no one that has commented yet has said anything yet. And here you are describing how you "made" this picture to people, KDE-look has too much unoriginal work as it is. - Nov 04 2002

It shouldn't take so long to make this as KDE4. KDE 3.2 is a more than reasonable date to make a new themable kicker. I think this is a definate need for future KDE releases as it is really the only major part of KDE usage that is being left behind. But on the other hand, the kicker isn't all that MAJOR to the functionality of KDE. You can run KDE without the kicker, it is only there for ease of use. So even if there were a new kicker design that was more customizable, nothing is stopping you from using the old kicker instead of the new one. But if the kicker were themable enough, you should be able to make the new kicker look JUST like the old one if you don't like the change. In fact, I think this is a very important aspect. If a new kicker were to be made, I think it would be important to have it configurable enough to look like the old one, or something totally different like the one in the screenshot. The look really shouldn't matter since they both do basically the same things. They hold buttons that are just links to apps, and menus, and some applets. The key is to make the project as modular as possible and maybe more applet based, so it would be an easy task to load and unload cetain features of it. I am willing to bet the KDE team is well aware of the consern the users have over a new kicker design considering all the posts and theorical screenshots made on this topic. I really hope they can pop out something new by KDE3.2. - Nov 03 2002

As I said in the description, that version came out of CVS. There is no release of it yet because it still has some bugs. If you haven't used CVS before it isn't difficult. Simply go to gaim.sf.net and there are instructions somewhere about how to install gaim from CVS.. they give you the commands line by line. You don't even need to know what it is doing. 8) - Oct 28 2002
