this is the future, newer versions of kde should natively support this naming scheme, but for the actual kde you have to patch in order to fully use the theme - Jan 18 2006
I don't think that they've changed it, but I'm not sure, but I think that Tango, alongside with Oxygen, represent a big Milestone for Linux (and BSD too) Desktop, no matter what gets release first (I like them both) because finally we could get a single Icon Theme for both the major DE (and maybe Xfce too) and that is a huge leap forward in desktop usability - Dec 17 2005
This page describes the proposed standardisation of icon names to use when creating icon themes for desktops and applications which implement the freedesktop.org Icon Naming Specification. This proposed Icon Naming Specification compliments the existing freedesktop.org Icon Theme Specification.

I don't see any hijack attempt here, they say that they implement the freedesktop.org specification (mentioned 2 times in the paragraph) isn't this enough? - Dec 17 2005
There a great misunderstanding about the Tango project
First, their project is an icon set, not conquering the world
Second their naming scheme IS THE STANDARD, the same standard that the oxygen project follows, and that is produced by freedesktop.org

I agree cmg are good for redistributing apps, but the current implementation of mounting them in loopback into /tmp it's a little mess, on the other side AppDirs are million times polished and easier to use, if you tried ROX at least one time you know what I mean, I don't understand why there is the need to reinvent the wheel.... - Oct 01 2005
also this thing it's already supported from rox so it's only a matter of giving AppDir support to KDE and Gnome (and maybe XFCE) to have a fairly decent package manager that it's distribution indipendent at least for binary packages (mostly for commercial apps, like skype that distributes an actually broken debian package) - Sep 30 2005
I think that the idea is good, but it has a wrong target, it mounts and manages cmg file while it should give users the ability to manipulate AppDirs directly like MacOSX and ROX instead of mounting the cmg file and running the app from there
the cmg file it's good to distribute the app though - Sep 30 2005

ok, but running a program seems an action to me :-D if I'm not wrong even the gnome applet places run in actions menu, also you placed it at bottom of the menu, difficult to reach (probably is faster to do Alt+F2 than getting to the menu entry, you should place it on top)
Well apart from system:/ and network:/ (that you rearranged very well in Desktop menu) the other kmenu actions seems placed quite well where they are now.

For the trash I partly agree with you, it should be configurable, and have two submenus, open and empty, so you can empty it directly from the desktop menu, but this means modify the code of the kio - Apr 05 2005
cool, also run command should go in actions menu, and not in applications, continuing with the actions thing, probably, the black sheep is system:/ that includes something you placed part in desktop and part in actions. You could also add the show desktop entry in the desktop menu, and one for trash:// too - Apr 04 2005
The action submenu in kicker it's dynamic, you could add more entries, like search, terminals, printers, yours instead seems to be fixed (I've added terminal sessions and it doesn't show in your actions menu) you could try to get advantage of this behaviour (that also could make your applet more consistent with the rest of the DE) you can modify the action sub menu by going in "configure panel) and in the menu tab
for the rest, your work is very good :-D - Apr 04 2005
but I think that the kmenu icon should be removed, or made part of the application entry (like in the gnome applet) but I don't know if it's possible - Apr 04 2005

1. implementing recent as a kicker applet or button, which pressed opens a simple window that shows icons (with metadata tooltips) and a search bar or a filter.

2. implementing recent as a KIO slave recent:/ and use the konqueror's search and filter capabilities.
Making the Kmenu able to embed kio's (it's difficult to write, I mean being able to browse a kioslave, for example smb:/, within the menu) it's possible to create a recent entry like yours, what do you think? - Aug 06 2004
