Hi thomas, it could be possible to port the marvellous beclock to Plasma5/kwin5 ??
thanks a lot, :-) ciao :-) pier - Jan 25 2016
I'm trying to use two pasmoids, one that show the user and one that shows the hostname on a panel on the top of the screen... and fastswitchuser on the main panel at the bottom..:-) :-) it seems to works
ciao thnx P - Apr 02 2013
thank you for the fastuserswitch plasmoid, I tried it and every user of the laptops found it useful, the why I would like a kwin effect is just becouse it will be always above something.
Certainly you know how can one single mouse click be a hard work :-), so, as the fastuserswitch plasmoid spare one click, the kwin effect with username above everything I hope will do.
I have four laptops each of one configured with four users.... for now..:-), me, my nephews, my son, my sister, and everyone use casually one of the laptops with theyr user, me is the only one with a little computer skill, so I told everybody to use theyr user, but, the annoyng thing is that if I go to an open laptop with firefox open I don't know AT GLANCE which user is active, so I have to go to desktop see the user (with the help of community I made a plasmoid for this...:-)
https://forums.opensuse.org/english/get-technical-help-here/applications/484422-set-font-dimension-plasmoid-using-python-qml.html
https://forums.opensuse.org/english/get-technical-help-here/applications/484291-how-have-username-permanently-screen.html)
and use that user or change it, so, this single HARDWORK click can be spared if I can see which user is active AT GLANCE, above everything, big...., with some trasparency...., so I hope my nephews will effectively use linux user feature, and also ctrl>alt>F7 F8 F9 to change user...:-)
thank you for the time you dedicated me, good easter, ciao, Pier - Mar 31 2013
becouse when "me" use the laptop then "nipoti" use the laptop, then leave it, then I come back and use the laptop again, I don't know at glance which is the current user, if a kwineffect show me the username I can switch user, kwin effect is indipendent from desktop and cannot be eliminated with one click...:-) :-) :-) :-) - Mar 16 2013
I have 4 users on my laptop, me, eros, nipoti, rosy; when I access to it I never know at glance wich user is active; it would be beautiful to have a kwin effect like the superbe beclock to show the username permanently on the screen...:-) I hope you consider enough exciting the idea to write a new kwin effect...:-) thanks, ciao, pier - Mar 16 2013
Maaaanythanks :-) I'll ennjoy it when I will be abroad again :-)
it works well on kde 4.8.2,
as I undertood the dot is for the home or fixed time, the beclock is for the current where I am time, is it correct??
it seems ok, but in m y situation the dot is less visible than I expected, a solution could be a different color, or the inverted color of the circle....
Ciao Pier - Apr 29 2012
beclock 0.17 on opensuse 12.1 and kde 4.8.0, after some hours beclock disappear, as I was doing tests with "qdbus org.kde.kwin /BeClock getAttention 5" command and alarmclock, I was thinking it was related to it, but when I give the "qdbus org.kde.kwin /BeClock getAttention 5" command it worked and beclock appear and disappear 5 times, but after the last disappear didn't reappear any more. - Feb 26 2012
ooookkk:-) it works, 16 events with 1500 ms for me is ok, but, where can I set the countdown or time when this will happen?? - Feb 21 2012
I think static, and the clock disappear and reappear after 4-5 seconds, no pulse, the config on my suse 12.1 it should be this
/home/pla/.kde4/share/config/kwinrc
[Effect-BeClock]
24h=true
Align=34
AttentionPeriod=9000
Background=255,255,255
Chime=true
CountDownAttention=16
DatePattern=yyyy-MMM-dd
ElectricBorders=
Font=Sans Serif,9,-1,5,50,0,0,0,0,0
Foreground=46,114,25
HideOnHover=true
Screen=-1
ShowDate=true
ShowDayOfWeek=true
ShowDigits=true
ShowRings=true
ShowSeconds=false
Size=320
Type=0
X=20
Y=20

thanks:-) - Feb 20 2012
>open a terminal and enter
>qdbus org.kde.kwin /BeClock getAttention 1

>This should also happen on every hour change if >you activate that option.

"qdbus org.kde.kwin /BeClock getAttention 1" produce only the disappearing of clock, did you think that this is something that get attention?? :-) - Feb 18 2012
I installed 0.17 version, that now is on suse repos :-), but I cannot understand what the new features do, in a week I didn't see any change...
-what attention period is?
-what count down attentions are?
-chime on the hour should be some "effect" every hour, it should but I didn't see yet, I wasn't there in that minute maybe:-)
thanks - Feb 18 2012

>24h preselection is valid, but i picked the date >format for being the only non stupid one ;-)

I like the way to format the date now, I can for example put 2012-feb-14, very good

>About Hands: no way. Fork it =P

withouthandsforever :-)))) I'm with you

>Timezones are a matter of it's own. While >...understood the need of this, i know it's 6h >earlier in NY - and passed elementary school :-P

is becouse you are young and you have a good memory :-), when I was in USA, and asked you this enhancemente, I never remembered if Italy was 6 hour before or later... :-)

an idea could be a different color dot in the hour and minute circles, (possibly with a couple of letter, like IT for italy, to insert optionally) and the time in the same color of the added dot (or star??) upon the master time. - Feb 14 2012

fantastic!!!!!! it works!!!!! on suse 12.1 and kde 4.7, great!!!! - Nov 20 2011
WOW! 0.15!
I tried to install on my suse 11.4 but have this problem:
linux-y7c9:/home/pla/Documenti/beclock 1/beclock-kwin-fx # ./configure
Configuring... please wait
./configure: line 7: cmake: command not found
Configuration failed :-(
It seems you miss at least the headers from the kdebase-dev or kdebase-workspace-dev package!

"but the /only/ reason i wrote this clock plugin was to have a clock _above_ all windows - not below where i usually can't see it anyway."
This is the why because it is the best clock in the world:-)) I love it, and I'm giving up wabbling windows for it, I don't know if I'm explaining (non so se mi spiego):-) - Oct 18 2011
:-) while you are coding on it, take into account that the day of week (monday, frday etc) in many circumstances is almost unreadeable in this way, an option to have in the same way (same trasparency) of date and time could be better. :-)
ciao PLA - Sep 05 2011
for "start kwin from konsole" you intend kwin --replace??

I obtained BeClock from suse from this repo:

Yes with Xrender Beclock works well (other effects not, but beclock yes :-)) and hide on mouse hoover works well as well.
ciao pla :-) - Aug 16 2011
Ok, now it works better, I updated KDE from the 4.7 repo, but hide on hoover mouse doesn.t works:-(((
ciao, pla - Aug 13 2011
on my suse 11.4 I updated to kde 4.7 and beclock (0.13b-1.4 and 14) doesn't works :-))
is there any way to have the best clock app in the world working on kde 4.7??
And also, last month I was in USA (Austin TX), so I would like to have two clocks, Italian and USA time, is there any way to have two clocks with two times??
Thanks a lot, ciao:-) - Aug 13 2011
in my version (0.7-2.4x86_64 on suse 11.3 and kde 4.4.4) there only is the am/pm indicator and the show date, I will wait the next version :-)

I don't intend "free text clock" but only the two or three or four international ways to write date like DD-MMM-YYYY or the actual YYYY-MM-DD or MMM-DD-YYYY or DD-MM-YYYY.

thanks :-) - Aug 05 2010
nice widget, very nice, do you think it's possible to add the weekday?? like monday thursday etc.

and a different way to write the date?
something like 24 aug 2010 or sun 24 aug 2010 or 24-08-2010.

I think this is the best wieget on the whole kde pool of widgets plasmas and other, good very good - Aug 05 2010

In my fstab I have:
sshfs#pier@lin4p.roma.enei.it:/afs/.enei.it/ /afspla fuse user,noauto,fsname=sshfs#pier@lin4p.roma.enei.it:/afs/enei.it/ 0 0
so, now I mount it using konsole and doing:
mount /afspla, it asks me password, i give it, return, and it works, navigating in /afspla I am in my space in the remote afs filesystem.
now, how can I use your plasmoid to mount this with one click??
manythanks

kbuildsycoca4 didn't solve, I tried in suse 11.3 and kde 4.6.2, install.sh doesn't create the ServiceMenus folder, so I made it by hand and copied colorfolder.desktop there, colorfolder was already copied in usr/bin by install.sh and now it works, thanks :-)
tomorrow I'll try in suse 11.4 - Apr 24 2011
