To check whether a contact is sync with KAB or not, launch konqueror in your home folder for instance, then right clic on a file, copy to, contact. Your contacts online synced with KAB appear in that menu. - Aug 21 2005

I'm using Suse 9.1 and with two commands I can run Looking Glass. I wrote some code a few month ago for its taskbar... It's an open source project ! - Jan 27 2005

If you create the LG3D Taskbar for KDE, then it would be great... But it's a lot of work in order to have thumbnails of apps instead of apps name in the taskbar for instance...
And looking glass is not only its taskbar !
It's also a 3D Window Manager, a Composite manager (what kompmgr should be in the future for KDE)... - Jan 27 2005

I succeded in using the patch from KDE 3.3.1 on a KDE 3.3.2.
The patch for kdelibs applies without any problem, and on kdebase I get two hunks (but it seems to work, it's compiling...)
I didn't test kdeartwork yet. - Dec 19 2004

I would like to create a KIO too, but I don't find any _good_ documentation. I found http://www.heise.de/ct/english/01/05/242/ but it's not enough.
Where is my dream ? :p Or where can I find a small KIO showing only two folders for instance, in order to work with a good base ?
Thanks... - Nov 14 2004

A kernel-level and/or a desktop-level...... - Jul 06 2004

With the ACL and/org ReiserFS4, you can have that kind of features. But I think that at a KDE level only, it can be implemented by a database managing all the files "travelling" via KIO, KFileDialogs... It's hard for us because of the lack of global core, I mean a GTK app would not be able to use that... I think it's THE problem of linux and its GUI : GTK, Qt, Motif (yes, it exists always), KDE, GNOME... To much libraries for the same thing.
So we need a kernel-level implementation and/or a Desktop-level implementation with a standard protocol to allow all apps to use that easily, and I think it's not win because to much developers don't want to care about that kind of things : just see the number of X implementations : I'm fed up with that and it's boring graphics cards makers who are not able to create graphics drivers because there isn't any driver compatibility between X.org|XFree / XServer / ...
The features of spotlight are a need, a true need, we have to implement it quickly, but our structure (the bazar) is our problem to do that... - Jul 04 2004

What is needed is a cross-application kind of framework which allow all the apps to use all the PIM datas, and then transform Kontact in an interface to that "framework".
With that way, all the apps would be able to use every PIM data.
And it would be nice to have the same for photos, music, video... See http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=82581 - Jul 04 2004
