1) use the "Test" feature in the control centre page to view the splash screen in action, do a capture of it doing that

2) "3.4" would have been far more useful to people in here... having "3.4.2" severely limits its applicability... - Sep 02 2005

why are you using "make all-recursive"??? I just did the following:

make
su
make install

The problem isn't in his code, it's in the code that puts his panel into it's display. It doesn't give itself fixed dimensions and then check the panel size and set scroll bars for those that won't fit into it's window. That kcm program sizes itself based on the largest panel, which is ridiculous as we're discovering. It needs to run the same as the relevant window behaviour module in the KDE Control Centre does. - Sep 08 2004

cheers...

that was (as far as I'm concerned) _not_ obvious...

for the benefit of others following who may be just as clueless... ;)

./configure --prefix=/opt/kde3
make
su
make install
libtool --finish /u sr/local/kde/lib/kde3

I've now got corona and luna metallic up and running... Brill, and the commands are in my bash history for doing the others :)

Now how can I easily make the rpm files (for suse 9.1) to save others the hassle of installing all the development headers etc ? :)

and would it be possible for the configure script to work out for itself where kde is??? I mean, all it would have to do would be to search in some sensible locations for a particular key kde file - Sep 03 2004

KDE 3.x Window Decorations by jrch2k 357 comments

but you've got no instructions or readme file in your package, no little noddy guide on this kdelook entry... I opened a terminal in the directory created after unpacking your archive (why the heck you've included the entire path from /home onward escapes me), but after hassled with ./configure in getting all the includes and devel headers loaded in, it could finish ./configure with the message "Good - your configure finished. Start make now"... I did a make and got no obvious to me error messages, then su'd and did make install...

after all this, I logged out and then back into kde and then opened up control centre and can't for the life of me find an entry for your "control centre"...

so what did I do wrong? - Sep 03 2004

I now fail to see the point of pretty boot splashes as my system is up for ages at a time and reboots are rare occurrences. I only reboot for kernel changes and the occasional one forced on me by a power glitch. It's some 13 days now since my last reboot and that was for a kernel update via suse's YOU - Aug 24 2004

Kontact Organizer SVG

KDE 3.x Splash Screens by arcisz 2 comments

You should have made it so that it can be colourised to match the current colour theme like the panel background can be... then again, that's most probably a function of the panel code and should be incorporated into all other KDE apps that put up splash screens. Another thing that should be done for the future is for splash screens to be svg's rather than bitmaps so they can automatically scale to match the desktop resolution and automatically use SVG icons from the current icon scheme if you incorporate icons into them.
