This theme is very polished. Very!. :))
You guys have made a theme which is a quite fair port but yet usable and without small rendering bugs. I think that achieving this is very difficult and I congratulate you for that.
The only thing I miss from KDE 4.2 is the scrollbar effect. I've seen similar effect at osx-scrollbar (latest Mac4lin includes that). Perhaps you could do something alike, because the effect in KDE4.2 is pretty cool. Nevertheless, that is an small issue. - Feb 24 2009

I've downloaded gnome-settings-daemon sources and I've seen that they create a toplevel window to extract colors from- in order to feed xrdb.

Thus, one partial solution to handle legacy apps without spoiling the rest would be to add the line:
bg[NORMAL] = "#bbbbba"
to the style "gradient" (which is used only at "GtWindow" and "PanelDItemEditor" widgets at your case) keeping the default style with the darker background.

I'm unsure of which side effects this might have. It would be just OK if there is no inheritance of the toplevel window style to the children - I guess this is not happening since you specify the style for every widget type and use the "default" to the GtkWidget class specifically. I've tested and my NEdit windows keep looking just fine. I wish to know your opinion about this trick. - Apr 11 2008
With the last update, the notifications are shown with a black background and a dark grey foreground and are not readable (besides of being aesthetically wrong). Any idea? - Apr 10 2008
Also, thanks for the explanation about the default background setting. One could mess with .Xdefaults or ~/.gnome2/xrdb but then it would only work for a certain theme :P

There is another small bug: network-manager wireless power scale is not correctly drawn. Mac4lin people had the same problem (I guess since they derived their work from yours) and solved it some time ago. I *think* the fixing line was:

widget_class "*MenuItem.*ProgressBar*" style "progressbar"

which they place just after class "GtkProgressBar" style "progressbar"
at about your line 1670.

- Apr 09 2008
OK, then. Seems that "the good choice" depends on which legacy apps one is using. - Apr 08 2008
Impressive work!. Congratulations.
I've two minor issues:
1st) Evolution messages list-header is wrong at vertical mode.
2nd) The color set up at legacy apps (Motif) is too dark. I get the right color using
bg[NORMAL] = "#bbbbba"
instead of
bg[NORMAL] = "#979797"

I don't know what may be affected by this change, but since I use NEdit a lot, I prefer it this way... - Apr 07 2008

I really like this engine. However, the list-headers are glassy while the rest of the widgets have smooth gradients which makes list-headers inconsistent with the rest.

Nevertheless, the widgets at their own look fantastic. Amazing is the proper word.

I would suggest having a variable to choose between glassy or smooth for all the widgets (and providing smooth version for the list-headers and glassy version for the rest of the widgets). I know this is a big amount of work- providing a smooth version of the list-headers would be a nice first target.

I'm glad to see people developing GTK engines, specially when are cairo based :-)). I'm very happy to use this amazing theme, and my comments below are not "but"s - just suggestions:

IMHO, some widget borders are too blurry and hard (buttons for instance) compared with other which are smooth and calm... (list headers for instance). I like slick and calm looks.

There is room for improvement at scrollbars as well. - Feb 20 2007

For those who don't know, Mortadelo and Filemon are popular characters of Spanish comics.
Most of us who were born about the seventies grew up laughing at their simple humoristic stories. The humor of their creator (Francisco IbaƱez) targets the common social behaviour rather than politics or vips. Well, the characters are very fool as well :).

Hi! I've modified River gradients to match better Bluecurve aesthetics. Just changed the "0.7" entries at gradients to "0.9" (4 times only :-) ). Default gradients are too dark: nice since it makes River different from other gradient based themes, but not so good for Bluecurve integration.

If it had round corners it would be just perfect for Bluecurve. I like Bluecurve stlye but not the metacity theme, so River makes a lot of sense for me. Thanks. - Apr 07 2006

I don't want to change my work behaviour according to the software. I rather change the software.

Do not take that too seriously: I'm sure you are already changing your work behaviour according to the software, and I'm sure you will keep doing so since software keeps beeing replaced.
NM, I don't want to start a phylosophical flame; I just wanted to point that the "places" thing is a good thing (TM) that can be used to minimize the I/O file dialog mess, and addresses the same problem you are facing. I understand, however, that you may not like that solution. Fortunately, you have the source code and, as you say, you can modify the software to macth your needs. - Mar 15 2006
I must agree that at the beginning the new gtk/gnome dialogs are suprising and perhaps nasty.

But after some time of working with them, I love dragging a working location into the places part and accessing the location easyly from every app, whithout the waste of space of the full file-selection dialog.

When, after a week or so, the location has lost its "working-priority", I remove it from the places; so at the end most of the times I use one file-selection dialog I use one of my "places" entries, and I can still navigate to other locations using the expander (but such case should be the rare one). - Mar 13 2006

I actually meant both the pattern and the bands. I've made it myself easyly with the gimp, making the image a transparency mask of itself... I'm playing around that because I can now recolorize the image but it has lower contrast than yours....

Let me know if you are interested in it. Sure however that you can make it much better since your image is very very good. - Jan 31 2006
The wallpaper is absolutely amazing, and perhaps deserves its own section. I'm currently using it with T-ish theme and seems to have been made for it, as well.

Would it be possible to make an alpha (.png) wallpaper so the underlaying color is seen through the shaded bands? I'm guessing that this is how you created the image, and it may be just a question of exporting everything but the deepest layer... - Jan 31 2006
