KXDocker by stefano 154 comments

the old osxbar was better imho... kxdocker doesn't correctly redraw the bar and the icons. I get lots of artefacts of zoomed icons. I tried compiling with the CXXFLAGS as well as without them. Didn't change anything except the speed... I hope it gets better over time. - Mar 12 2004

Cool :)
Thanks for the quick fix. BTW, those were pretty much the defaults. Icon size was 32/128, and the background was "white". That happens with all other backgrounds, too, which have round edges.

Karamba & Superkaramba by stefano 169 comments

Hi stefano.
Just wanted to notify you, that there's a small bug in osXBarMatrix.py (1.0.18). In line 190, the "48" has to be replaced with "64". Then the left round corner is properly aligned again. Otherwise, it's below the icons and there's an ugly corner.

Please gimme some of that stuff... seriously, you're sooo narrow minded and focused on the "only truth" that's written down in the Bible, that you can't accept any other opinions. The Bible is an ordinary book, written a couple of hundred years ago (~18 hundred I guess). I know, that a couple of things were already proven to have existed at that time. There are some accurate things. But the Bible is far from being evidence that God "is". It's all a matter of interpretation. Some see the Bible as a (at least partly) historical book, others, well...I rather see it as Chinese whisper. Everything gets a little bit exaggerated.

"hung on nothing" can also mean, that earth sits on the back of a turtle :) or that it's "just there" [tm]. It doesn't imho imply that people at that age knew that earth is a sphere floating in space around a star and that there are galaxies all around, which are expanding (unbound) and collapsing (bound)... so much in the Bible has to be interpreted. That's why there are theologians, I guess.
BTW, why I'm soo much against that stuff, and always post in those threads. I lived in a Canadian mormon family for half a year and it was hell. Really. They were as evangelizing as you. Always praying, praising God, asking me why I don't want to believe all the time, and after a couple of months giving up on it and mobbing me.
That's my little story about Christians... - Sep 25 2003

do everyone a favour and stop posting that crap. the design sucks black holes through nano tubes, and the religious message doesn't belong here, IMHO of course. You should really use time.strftime() for the clock, and make the format configurable... e.g.
timeFormat = "%a %H:%M %d.%m.%Y"
That would be something like

osX Bar

Karamba & Superkaramba by stefano 54 comments

well, about the gap... the zoom looks pretty for 128px-icons...however, try setting the zoomed size to 48px.
power = os.popen(SysBatteryCmd,"r")
overTextStrings[SysBatteryIndex] = string.strip(power.read(1024))
karamba.changeText(widget,overText,overTextStrings[SysBatteryIndex])

^ that works for me. The script now looks like this (I renamed it to current_power):
#!/bin/sh
STATUS=`awk -F\ '{print $2}' /proc/acpi/ac_adapter/AC0/state`
if [ "$STATUS" = "on-line" ]; then
echo "Connected to AC"
else
echo `/usr/bin/awk -F\ '/present rate/ { FOO = $3; } /remaining capacity/ { printf "%.1f", $3/FOO } ' /proc/acpi/battery/BAT0/state`\ hours\ left

Really nice job :)
Just a couple of questions. The zoom looks kinda weird to me. Why do the other icons move away when there is enough space to zoom the icon? There's a huge gap between them.
Second, is it possible to make the battery status more accurate? maybe with a transparent battery and a background with a variable height? This can be used to calculate the battery lifetime in hours:

awk -F\ '/present rate/ { PRESENT = $3; } /remaining capacity/ { print $3/PRESENT } ' /proc/acpi/battery/BAT0/state

Unfortunately I don't have any clue how to do this in python :-/

your splash is quite nice... but could you add an alpha layer beyond the icons? IMHO, that makes it look a bit cleaner (yea, the text sucks). Like www.abi-2k.de/4335-mod.png :)

Another KDE menu idea

Various Stuff by davidsansome 14 comments

why not make a round menu which appears, where your mouse pointer is? almost every keyboard has a windows keyboard. use that to pop up the menu. and for the menu entries use self-explaining icons, and put them in "slices". i personally don't like moving the mouse up and down to access menu entries. going in several directions to access them should be quite a bit faster. - Oct 19 2002
