I agree with you eriol. Besides, when you don't like something you aren't forced to use, the correct reaction is silence. Or at least constructive criticism. But arcisz's behavior is very rude. - Jun 29 2005

GNU's Not Usable

Wallpaper Other by antignu1 13 comments

This obviously qualifies as a troll. If GNU's not usable (and I doubt you even know what GNU is), I suggest you use some other OS. I suggest you try FreeBSD, which is free too and a very good system. But posting such troll wallpapers is a very stupid and useless idea, it will upset people who like GNU and get you into trouble. - Dec 18 2004

There is no such thing a stealing GPL code. I love your windec and you should not listen to stupid ppl. If you find a codebase good enough to start your project, you just spared some time and you didnt hurt anybody. This is the sole principle of open source : on the shoulders of the giants. As for whiners, let them whine. - Oct 25 2004
msstyle loader prototype

KDE 3.5 Themes by equinoxe 29 comments

ok, so I guess the null string will go into the error check procedure once implemented with all the other possible errors (after all a nice "Sorry" Dialog looks a lot better than an error 11 ;)).
I am trying to learn Qt currently but I am still an early newbie so I won't likely be able to help you with the scrollbars, but maybe you could look at thinkeramik's code for example : it is very complete and it basically loads pixmaps from pngs (iirc, or were those xpm ?), so maybe the similarity in the principle will help you. (from what I understood, you first convert bitmaps to pixmaps and then you load the result).
Once again, thank you and good luck. - Aug 30 2004
msstyle loader prototype

KDE 3.5 Themes by equinoxe 29 comments

styleloader crashes when I launch it and then just click the Cancel button. Unfortunately, kde was not compiled with debugging on my machine (yoper), so it doesn't say more than just :
Populating the list of available configurations...
KCrash: Application 'styleloader' crashing...

Other than that, the styles Opus,ModLuna and OliviaSky loaded just fine, except for the input tab, where the slide bar and the progress bar look very weird (but you seem to say this is normal behavior as for now).
Anyway, hat you've already done is amazing, please keep up the good work. - Aug 30 2004

in cvs src/loader/resourcestyle.h, you put a semicolon after Q_OBJECT, and my gcc was very unhappy with that, so I removed it and compiling went fine. I am using gcc 3.4.1 so it may be a new syntax inherent to it or something. - Aug 30 2004

FSTabEditor

System Software by SegFault 40 comments

I suggest you make your kcontrol module a little more verbose about the options. Not everybody who will use this knows what to type. Maybe you could give an editable and documented list of options or something that allows people to choose what sounds sensible instead of being forced to type something they don't necessarily know. Maybe a kind of "Create or configure device Wizard" would be a good idea. (If you don't know what I mean have a look at k3bsetup from the k3b project).
Anyway, the idea of making fstab more accessible is great. - Aug 18 2004

Still looks like it's inspired from WinFX, Apple Spotlight or gnome Storage (everybody's doing today what BeOS did ten years ago), but a good idea anyway. May I suggest that you implement it as a KPart, to make it modular and therefore usable everywhere. - Aug 17 2004

I look forward your improvements to the keramik engine. Creating themes for kwin has been a real pain for me in the past (thats why I made some icewm first). Being able to create your theme with a few pixmap would be really cool, I hate to mess with c++ to get this kind of job done. And the speed argument doesn't stand anyway since modern themes do use pixmaps through c++ wrappers. C++ darwing by hand (lines dots and so on) sucks too, it happens to be a lot slower than pixmaps since it can't be put in cache, compressed etc, it's executed every time it's used. - May 06 2004

Your theme is nearly perfect, I've been dreaming for months that somebody would make a gonx for kde theme (I even made a pale icewm attempt).
There are just a few things you could make better :
-smoothen the round borders, pixels show too much.
-Allow buttons to be placed anywhere
-Allow tabs to slide (see B II theme).

Thanks a _lot_ for your beautiful theme anyway. - Apr 17 2004
