Surely there are not many people who can use this "at home", but from my experience with software for veterinary clinics I can say this is really useful. Lack of this kind of software can be the single reason for at least some people not to switch to Linux.

Unfortunatly it's not that easy. Wherever you use transparency, the KDE IceWM engine will fill it with random junk. You can't simply leave "holes" in the decoration - thus no rounded corners are possible, even with the help of the outer frames.

The minimalistic window decoration design of Silver and Bronze miss a menu button, so there is no chance to display one. Since you can get the menu by right-clicking the window title anyway this should be no great loss: a menu button would be redundant.

But if you insist I will add a menu button in the next update of all Fusion X themes.

These are SlicK icons. They look very good with this theme.

I think they are delivered by default with KDE nowadays, but you can find them here on KDE-Look as well. They are really elaborated but woefully underrated, and it's a shame only few people seem to use them anymore.

No, you can't fill in what you like. The project is GPL'ed and its license is GPL. You violate the GPL when announcing it otherwise.

Your lack of ethics is pathetic.

Sorry, but the license isn't "Want it? Take it, Use it", but GPL.

I'm getting more and more annoyed by the careless use of the "License" field here on KDE-Look. It's not a joke field. If you don't know, don't fill in. In case you fill in, think first.

Unfortunatly it is not always possible to license packages as we'd like to. This art is based on others' work and we all have to respect their copyrights. The "spirit of free software" doesn't mean you can ignore the "spirit of fundamental fairness".

We (me and Dan) have released a bunch of artwork under free and copyleft licenses. Have a look at our personal accounts and the AquaFusion account.

If you feel uncomfortable with this license then please don't use this software. We are sorry for this inconvinience, but we didn't chose the license for fun or because we are jealous.
- Mar 09 2003
It's inherent to the design. All eyecandy is kind of distracting, on the other hand ergonomic designs tend to be very boring. Other designs (like Keramik or Liquid) have their very own distracting spots.

Most buttons bear only standard messages like "OK" or "Cancel". There shouldn't occure too much misunderstandings. Moreover you can chose a bolder font to increase readability.

Well, I've had a very close look at XP again after I read your comment and I must confess I don't see your point here. (Personally I find "Luna" extremely ugly, but that is irrelevant.) What is more important: in what way does XP *not* have the "flaws" you describe? It is a regular theme like any other else, I can't spot any fundamental difference. It has even been ported to KDE twice:

Maybe you like to use one of both themes?
- Mar 08 2003
Yeah, I know. Add me to the list. ;-) - Mar 06 2003
Hm. Maybe you had Kcontrol open while installing via script... in this case the style won't show up until you restart it. Well, however, not so important.

There exist theme variations in very warm colors which we might release in case people really like this style. Send me an email for a sneak preview if you like. :-)
- Mar 06 2003
That's bad. Didn't Elmo3 work on your system? Have you been able to collect any more information why it failed?

When you install the style by hand you must not forget to run "kinstalltheme" afterwards. The style won't show up in kcontrol otherwise.

I'd love to create a correponding gtk theme, but I'm still looking for at least a few words of documentation about them, so I don't have to invent the wheel for a second time. First I would like to express my believe this kind of requests belong in the brandnew section "KDE improvements". People searching under "Themes" don't want to see request or proposals, they want working themes. :-) So I suggest changing your post's category.

About your request: I think it will be very difficult to code such a theme with KDE. It's doubtfully you will find a volunteer programmer. By the way: you have provided too little information (i.e. visual material) to even get a sufficient impression of the theme's look. Maybe some links?

The icon was already removed for 0.5.0 (stable). But we will reinclude it in the next release if you like them. Sorry, but we constantly change many of the older icons into more colorful ones and sometimes icons get exchanged that are still in use.
- Feb 03 2003
Yes, it's true. All icon sizes are derived from 64x64 (later it will be 128x128) in this approach. It is some kind of scalable icons without SVG.

It saves a LOT of space and the results of KDE downscaling the icons are similar to those done by hand (although it may be reasonable to provide very small sizes separatly).

There are some more small advantages (not yet used in this beta). The big question is if this works as intended with any KDE setup. It works *here* for a week now with no noticable differences to 0.5.0 - except now some huge sizes are present.

Performance: yes, I've noticed that although I have a quite fast machine. But I have a suspicion where the problem lies. Will try to find a fix for this.

Window decoration: I doubt it's possible to implement a "glowing" effect like the native decoration "Glow" shows with IceWM themes. You will have to wait until someone else codes this windec natively, I'm not capable of doing it. The same applies to transparent menus. :-(

Color customization can be improved a bit, but some colors need to be hardwired. There are some people working on a native Elmo III version, I think they will do better than me.

Use a cleverer compression method for big sizes:

Either use JPEG and start with 100% size and lower it until it is small enough (750 KB). In most cases the quality is good enough to display 1600x1200 without heavy artifacts.

Or - if this doesn't work - try converting the image to 65535 colors (with floyd-steinberg dithering and reduced color bleeding). In almost any case this will have no visible impact on the picture but it might be you'll end up with a PNG that's small enough.

Both methods cannot be combined since JPEG uses always the RGB color space and doesn't really profit much from fewer colors.
