Well it seems to have been fixed in a recent update.

FYI: It is a moodin splash screen, but other moodin splash screens were working fine.

Thanks in any case,

KDE 3.5 Themes by Maxilys 251 comments

In the latest Kubuntu Feisty beta, ksplash crashes when using both Serenity and the Kubuntu splash theme. I don't know who's to blame :) but here's what happens:

$> ksplash
$> X Error: BadIDChoice (invalid resource ID chosen for this connection) 14
Major opcode: 156
Minor opcode: 17
Resource id: 0x3a00108
ksplash: Fatal IO error: client killed

Let me know if there are any other diagnostics I can provide you with. - Mar 27 2007

SmoothSlideSaver

Screensavers by carstenw42 55 comments

This is pretty similar to a screensaver found in the normal Xscreensaver bundle (GLSlideshow), but it manages to be much smoother. GLSlideshow has a "stutter" when loading the next image, which doesn't occur here.

Well done.

Tango

Full Icon Themes by nmirthes 80 comments

I'm glad you point this out. I think Tango is much misunderstood -- if everyone agrees on the standard we can "KDEify" Gnome applications as much as they "Gnomify" a KDE application.

Even if the default implementation takes on the more muted Gnome colour palette, there is no reason to dismiss this as useful progress for KDE. - Dec 07 2005

Hi,

None of the downloads for this wallpaper (or your other Patagonia one) work.

Can you also make the download not as a zip, or it may not work with "get hot new stuff".

anymeal

Utilities by wedesoft 41 comments

I have been using Krecipes for a while, but it kept on slowing down further and further as it got more recipes.

I am now running anymeal with 150,000+ recipes imported, and it's much, much smoother. It was difficult to get hold of the compilation dependencies, but I guess those dependencies are the reason it can handle large databases.

I miss the KRecipes interface though. The most import parts for me are a KDE integrated interface, a better search interface and a more readable recipe display. Also being able to import RecipeML directly would be nice.

Thanks for your software.

Debian services control panel

System Software by forodejazz 7 comments

I've looked into this once while working on another program, and unfortunately Debian makes this REALLY hard to do. Most other distros implement the 'status' command in all their service scripts -- so you can go:

/etc/init.d/cups status

to find out if it's running.

Debian doesn't have this, and no-one I know has found another reasonable way of finding the state of a service.

Yeah, but choice is always good.

The other good thing about this program is that it works! ktvschedule stopped working for me a couple of revisions back :( and the configuration always seemed pretty confusing. I prefer the grid-like UI of ktvschedule however.

This is really smooth. I hope some of the more artistic types pick this up and run with it and create some more great themes. (Not that the default one isn't the best kde splash I've seen before).

Karamba & Superkaramba by nuka 4 comments

I tried this once, and it's a bit of a pain.

You have to do the trick of
- remove one character from the beginning
- add one character to the end
- redisplay
- repeat on a timer

It's clunky and I could never get it to look nice.

Unless the Superkaramba api has changed that in the last 6 months or so. - Jun 14 2005

kde bluemote scripts

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by krionius 12 comments

Ok, after a few hours stuffing around I actually got bluetooth HID (a completely different method) to control amaroK for me. This is cool because I get to use the graphical remote control display on my K700i, and can even make my own graphical remote control displays.

I'll write it up as a quick howto and post it somewhere when I next get a chance.

Thanks again for your help.

Thanks for the quick reply and your trouble.

Replacing with the standard bluemote had more success. The process did not self-terminate, and I was able to visit the "Connectivity -> Accessories" menu in my phone and select a command.

Unfortunately none of the commands had an effect.

kde bluemote scripts

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by krionius 12 comments

Hi Krionius,

I'm trying to get your scripts working with my K700i and the media script (for amaroK control).

Upon running the K700i gives me a message "Profile Handsfree" and then (quickly) "bluez connected".

About 20 seconds later it then goes:

"bluez disconnected"

Which is about the same time as the bluemote program terminates.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

L.

I think the biggest issue is downloading a whole lot of libraries with each application. e.g. How much extra time is downloading the entire kde and qt libs every time you download a kde app going to take.

To get around this you would need some kind of "base install" that can be guaranteed to have a certain set of libraries and then each app only needs to include the less common libraries it uses. I think there exists an effort to promote the LSB desktop which afaik is a definition of common libraries. There are a few of the smaller distros signing up to this (linuxbase.org). - Dec 19 2004
KoolDock

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by ipv4 223 comments

I'm running SuSE 9.1 with kde 3.3 beta. The dock starts up looking OK, but moving the mouse onto it causes some weird behaviour. The parabolic zoom seems to start below the visible area of my screen, and only at it's highest point do any of the icons become visible (the top half of the icons come into view). Even then they are not responsive to clicking. Once in a while, for some reason, it will work fine. This behaviour doesn't seem to change no matter what configuration I use.

Any ideas about this issue?

Thanks,

Karamba & Superkaramba by Matti 1797 comments

Hi there. I'm having a few minor issues which I just can't seem to sort out. They both seem to be things that have either been introduced with the new superkaramba or the latest lwp.

The first is that lwp doesn't want to run in the same superkaramba session as other sk themes. If I do this it gets stuck on the "downloading weather data, please be patient" screen and doesn't move from there. It seems fine if I run it in it's own SK instance.

The other is that it is stuck on GMT. My system clock is on local time, but every time I look at the forecast it is GMT. I know it didn't used to be like that (i.e. I had the right icons shown at the right time of the day), but it seems stuck there now. Any ideas why?

Thanks in advance,

KaOrganizer

Karamba & Superkaramba by jayenell 14 comments

The konsolekalendar app has a few different export types (text, html, csv, short). My version (and yours) doesn't seem to have short. I'm not sure if it was added or removed or what.

The best thing to do is either find a version of konsolekalendar with the short option or modify your korganizer.theme to have "--export-type text" instead of "--export-type short". It's pretty ugly though -- the information is to verbose for a simple list of appointments. - Jul 15 2004
