all extension menus work for me in KDE trunk, so if you're using 4.0, you could try 4.1 beta2 or wait for the final. - Jul 06 2008

Clearly you've put a lot of work into polish, and I find Skulpture easier on the eyes than Plastik, QtCurve, Polyester, or even Oxygen.
some problems:
- the deco assumes there's only a menu button on the left. try KDecoration::buttonsLeftWidth()
- east/west tabs don't work
- arrows are weird. see this pic -> http://img142.imageshack.us/img142/5784/arrowsdh9.png
- scrollbar buttons are covered by the handle.. did you intend this? it's disturbing
- arrow is 1px misaligned in comboboxes... toolbar handles are ugly... and other even smaller stuff ;)
Looking forward to some progress. Cheers! - May 04 2008
Quote:Checking .pth file support in /usr/local/lib/python2.5/site-packages/
error: can't create or remove files in install directory
The following error occurred while trying to add or remove files in the
installation directory:
[Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/usr/local/lib/python2.5/site-packages/test-easy-install-25908.pth'
The installation directory you specified (via --install-dir, --prefix, or
the distutils default setting) was:
/usr/local/lib/python2.5/site-packages/
This directory does not currently exist. Please create it and try again, or
choose a different installation directory (using the -d or --install-dir
option).
So I ran
Quote:sudo mkdir -p /usr/local/lib/python2.5/site-packages/
and the install worked.
Surely setup.py should've handled that for me :p
So, I ran indywiki, a window appeared and immediately disappeared with a SIGSEGV. What do I do? - Mar 23 2008
Quote:running install
error: invalid Python installation: unable to open /usr/lib/python2.5/config/Makefile (No such file or directory)
What gives?
Maybe you should also outline this stuff in the readme. - Mar 23 2008

first the weird "groups" thing and now this?
opendesktop is truly falling apart. - Feb 16 2008
you could replace the GO, BACK, NEXT buttons with icon-only qtoolbuttons. of course, since you've opted to use plain qt, you can't just use KIcon for nice icons. you'll have to ship them with the package.
also, a cmake-based install system would be nice. plus a .desktop file. ping me if you get stuck with cmake ;)
the image grid would look a lot better if you make style the pushbuttons a bit. like, make them darkgrey and rectangular or something. hint: QWidget::setStyleSheet()
the 'remove progressbar' is useless, and 'choose wikipedia site' would be better off integrated into the main layout as a combobox. in fact, the menubar is pointless for miniapps like indywiki; you might as well ditch it.
your layouting mostly sucks, the margins are all off. try to line things up a bit.
keep it up =) - Jan 28 2008

the red konsole and yellow film strip are weird, they should be black.
the colors you've chosen don't go well together. try something more pastel for broad areas (the khaki folder icon is good!) but do throw splashes of loud color here and there -- with moderation ;)
the mimetypes are, uh, okay. could use some more bling.
the floppy icon looks pretty good but it hurts my head a little as the lightning is all wrong.
the amarok icon looks like it has a front panel made of glass, but glass blocks sound, so this makes no sense at all you see ;) also it's hard to recognize.
then come the action icons. those are super lame. the colors are unbalanced and the lightning is too plain. try HSL-style gradients, i.e. don't fade to lightblue, fade to a faint white.
in general i like how the filmstrip, the cd drive and other icons have a tango-style contrasting border. it's pretty.
you often put grey next to a saturated color, but those conflict. e.g. on the filmstrip, floppy, action icons, konsole, ksysguard...
i think the power of your set is quirky minimalism. don't jump into much detail, but when you do, make it work ;)
check out Oxygen, nuoveXT2, Crystal Project and Crystal Clear for inspiration.
voted bad for bad execution, but you seem to have a good vision. - Jan 12 2008

kcoloredit.png is butt ugly ;)
it should have about the same tones as kchart.png, i.e. take the yellow, red, blue from there and find out some shades of green/cyan/magenta to complement.
hint: crank down the saturation =)
also, would be funky if you separated the 6 colors with *cracks* hehe - Oct 22 2007

did you do them? like kplato, kghostview, karbon, kbugbuster, inkscape, gwenview...
I didn't think *anyone* could copy mattahan's style -> you rule!
one small problem. the outer edges of the recently added icons (e.g. EasyTAG.xpm) aren't antialiased. that must've been lost in the conversion from png. why not just use png? it's the standard =) - Oct 22 2007

me, I suck at 3d, but could you post the 3d source files so I can play with them? thanks :)
about the "fresnel effect" (you talking about the reflected cloudy texture right), I'd say it looks a bit superfluous and amateurish... do you think it would be possible to use clear glass everywhere, like in the front face of the gear icon? maybe you should use some other lightning environment to get a cooler reflection... like, maybe, inside a room with a window (see vista's screen icon).
basically what I'm hoping to see is the Crystal Project icons, except translucent and 3d.
and they are still too blue :p
good work, keep it up. - Oct 21 2007

a bit too muddy and too blue. you've also gone overboard with details like the "Linux" label on the screen, or the red light on the CD drive.
reflections and translucency are good, but they work best with minimalist designs ;)
on that note... since you're modeling the icons in 3D it would be easy to change the perspective so they face the screen directly. would make them more sober, while retaining the funky look.
for now I'm not volunteering to be the packager, but you're off a good start =)
in any case, kudos for bringing new stuff to the table... - Oct 17 2007

- setting menu coloration to #000000 and clicking OK changes coloration from "Custom" to "Background"
