However, this could be sped up somewhat by KIconServer, which was discussed on kde-optimize awhile ago. I think Mandriva uses it, but it hasn't made it into KDE yet. - Mar 05 2006

Actually, originally I had Non-KDE, but it looked weird ;-). - Feb 21 2006
A criticism I have is that some of the gray/white icons are hard to see/make out against a gray window color (e.g. Klipper, KMenu, New, Print).
I think this should definately be one of the themes included in KDE 4, along with the default Oxygen, Crystal Clear as a replacement for Crystal SVG, and Noia.
Saying that these icons are "rip offs" is pretty dumb. Linux/BSD are "rip offs" of UNIX. KDE is a rip off of Windows/Mac/CDE which are all originally rip offs of Xerox. As long as you're incorporating ideas, and not actually copying verbatim, it seems fine to me. That is the whole idea behind free software - ideas can be reused.

The one thing I COULD possibly do would be to allow the user to "rename" the folders as they appear in the ioslave. But that would be a lot of work for just an "s".
You could possibly complain to the maintainer of KStandardDirs to make it "bin" instead of "exe". That would sure make more sense. As for "wallpapers" vs. "wallpaper", it is sort of inconistent. On the one hand they have "wallpaper" and "icon" but on the other hand they have "templates" and "services". You could complain on the basis consistency, though I suspect the developers would prefer "wallpaper" over "wallpapers". Got all that? - Jul 18 2005

2. No way to start as normal user, and then enter root password for emerge operation.
3. Flakey behavior. Summary/changelog do not understand whitespace characters, and they do not always update when you click on a different package. RMB menu is broken. - Sep 25 2004

Stop this nonsense about fear-mongering. The only fear-mongers are those who try to instill fear of an alert system. - Aug 28 2004

Though I'm glad you haven't gone as far as Bill Clinton to suggest that 9/11 was retribution for "the Crusades." - Aug 28 2004

Evidence for the effectiveness of the system includes the fact that there has been no sucessful terrorist attack on American soil since 9/11. And this is supposed to cause "fear?"
In addition, you're poisoning the well. If the color-coded system had been implemented and an attack did succeed, John Kerry would immediately blame "this administration" for not doing more to warn Americans. - Aug 28 2004

Christians who bomb abortion clinics and/or stem-cell research usually do so because they are insane. There are not vast networks of sane, militant Christians, as there are vast networks of sane, militant Islamists. Furthermore, whenever a Christian commits an act of terrorism, it is usually minor in scale, killing 0-4 persons. This is because there is simply no widespread support and training for militant Christians due to the fact that militant Christians are usually sociopathic, an therefore an extreme abberation.
So to say that we should be as concerned about pipe-bombing Christians and dirty-bombing Islamists is nothing short of idiocy, but it was a good shot at organized religion. - Aug 28 2004

When will you guys stop whining about 2000? When Gore lost Florida (by a small margin, but he did lose), and consequently lost the electoral vote, he tried to sue for a recount of only the counties that he thought he should win. Even Ralph Nader acknowledges that to be a foolish move, even though he believes that Gore somehow still "won" the election. When the Supreme Court refused to honor Gore's request, they "apppointed" the President by refusing the interfere in an already decided election.
Of course, when that strategy didn't work they began to play the race card. All the civil rights groups came to Florida, but were unable to show evidence of a single "disenfranchised" black voter. (There was that one notice in a black housing project telling voters to come to the polls on the wrong day. Incidently, it was "discovered" by a Democratic operative). Later, disenfranchised came to mean "not registered to vote," "a felon" or "didn't know how to vote."
Gore still talks about 2000 every chance he gets. He never was really able to accept his fate. He went crazy and grew a beard. He now gives speeches before MoveOn.org that are so loony that the media won't even cover them. The greatest one was when he refered to Republican bloggers as "digital brownshirts" who are "deployed" by the Bush Administration. Talk about paranoia.
Anyway, why are you cozying up to the Electoral College? Liberals normally imply that the EC is some kind of conspiracy when they continually reiterate that "in fact, Al Gore won the popular vote." Hillary even supported abolishing the system. But conspiracy or not, it is the current Constitutional law, and whether or not you agree with it, you must live with it or ammend the Constition.
At any rate, whenever there is a book written on something, it must be true. Personally, if I read all the Bush-hating books out there, I wouldn't have time for personal hygiene (If this President is such an obvious failure, why do we need so many books to prove it?)
I wish people would not use this site to grind a politcal ax. But as long as they do, I will not hesitate to respond. - Aug 28 2004

Have you actually ever read the Psalms? If not, then I suggest you start with the first. Many of them are actually quite universal, and could be applicable even for pretty much any theistic belief system if you just remove the name Yaweh. They're not filled with credal dogma like other parts of the Bible. And though Psalms may not be the voice of God, they are certain men's interpretation of that voice. - Feb 11 2004

At any rate, what is your rock-solid evidence that God does not exist?
It is not absurd to believe in a higher power. Plenty of notable intellectuals believed in God, including Newton, Jefferson, Paine, Voltaire, Darwin (!), just to name a few. - Feb 11 2004
