Emmanuel Bouthenot has repackages kio-apt to make it included in the official Debian archive. Many thanks to him.

The source distribution is missing aclocal.m4

If you have development tools installed, you can try

make -f Makefile.cvs

The difference is launch speed and UI

I don't like kpkackage UI and I don't like having to wait when kpackage begins to run

There's more than 10k packages in debian. I don't really think it's wise to want to browse them by hand :p

0.2 will refuse running when run from within the K-menu or from kio-apt. It's a known bug, and the 0.2.1 release, fixing it, is waiting for my ISP to put its FTP servers back on-line.

In the meantime, you can edit
/usr/share/applications/kde/kpkgmanager.desktop
by hand and replace the Exec= line by

Since I just used the 'search for file box', I'm afraid I'll definitely won't remove it. Sorry ;) BTW, I like the idea of the search box in the title bar, so it will go in.

For the removing of "show", I'm changing my mind. My main concern is that search is much MUCH longer than "show" alone. - Jan 12 2004

I don't like the right-aligned thing, sorry :). But I think that
placing titles of multi-line fields
into separated lines could be a good one.

I really like the "Search/Show/List files" idea. But
I don't like hiding "Search for a file".
since some packages have
very VERY long file list, I don't like the idea of adding it to the end of the package description. Clicking in the titlebar is not a great problem I think :)


BTW: we shortcuts are coming in the 0.7 - Jan 10 2004

It depends on zlib1g >= 1.2.1, since it is the version in unstable.
You can upgrade it by using
apt-get install zlib1g/unstable - Dec 15 2003
