This is more a complaint with many new themes, but it would be nice if they didn't all depend on GIT/SVN/etc. versions of theme engines. Not everyone uses Ubuntu where the developers are happy to push out testing grade packages to their users. It's a little limiting to users like myself who use distros like Gentoo wear stability is paramount.

Otherwise, great work on this theme. One of the better ones I've seen on here in quite some time. - Jun 24 2010

It wasn't too much of a job. All of the themes minus the Shiki-Dust theme use the exact same window settings. The only real difference between them is the colours used on menu highlight.

I'll be releasing an updated version of this today that adds proper styling of OSD. - Jan 11 2010

A source package of this would be perfect and much appreciated.

As much as I like Ubuntu (while I'm not a user of it) what I can't stand is all of this Ubuntu only artwork. I understand its popularity but I feel that it takes away from other distros just because it makes a lot of new Linux people believe that they can only use this artwork in Ubuntu and that's a real shame. All Ubuntu is really is just a pretty, nicely packaged and polished distro but on the desktop and under the hood it functions just to same as every other distro that provides a kernel and a GNOME desktop environment. - Jan 05 2010
In no way am I criticizing the artwork of this theme. It's absolutely pleasing to use. My complaint lies in the fact that I feel this would be much better if it was packaged in more of a distro neutral way.

I'm a Gentoo user and I like this theme enough that I was going to create an .ebuild of it and track its progress keeping it up-to-date with the development. What I have a problem with is how it's packaged.

1. .gtp file suffixes for tar.gz files. Seriously?
2. Is there anything that this themes configurator does that's specific only to Ubuntu and its derivatives? If no, and this is just a regular script, there's no need to package it as a .deb

Those are my only real beefs with this. Otherwise it has some real potential to make any distro have beautiful usability, not just Ubuntu.

I hate doing this, but I had to give this a bad rating just on the basis that I can't even download this. Waiting five minutes on Firefox saying "Connecting to illusions.hu..." made me do it. This theme looks really nice and all, but if I can't download it, it's pretty useless. Please fix this. - Apr 09 2009

I made a theme quite similar to this called GiloucheSquare (which you can find on here of course) with the main difference being the buttons. So if you're looking for a them that picks up GTK colour, GiloucheSquare does this.

As usual, nice work p0ng. The palette you chose for these are really nice and I kind of like the small buttons. - Feb 12 2008

While the theme itself isn't bad or offensive, the only thing I really question is originality. Did you yourself make the background image used in this theme? If no, were you granted permission to use it by the artist who did create it? Otherwise, I actually like this. - Jan 25 2008

You could always release your changes as a patch against the Clearlooks source. As for releasing this as your own engine, I don't think you'd be stepping on anyone's toes doing so. That's the wonder of OSS, you can fork things as you see fit. But if that's the only change you made to the engine you're better off releasing it as a patch unless you plan to make other changes to the engine.

Just my 2 cents. - Jan 07 2008

When building this from source for making an Arch Linux package, I had a small issue but was an easy fix. If anyone runs into an error about /usr/bin/install not being found during make install, a simple sed -i 's|/usr/bin/install|/bin/install' src/Makefile fixes that. - Aug 18 2007

I don't get what's with all of the anti-Microsoft sentiments. If you don't like Windows, simply don't use it and leave it at that. I can guarantee that at least 50% of the people who contribute here use Windows for gaming or some other reason. You can't really speak badly of an OS that you need for some reason.

Bashing anything like this simply because you don't like it makes you look like immature fanboys with nothing better to do. I don't like Microsoft or their products as much as anyone else, but I'm not going to waste my time and be a Linux or OSS fanboy about it and create "art" to attempt to make a point that no one cares about. - May 29 2007

Thanks elowanxz, that's sort of the purpose of my site. I don't publish what I do for the general public, it's for my friends and family to read so if you think that I'm offended that you put down my design and content, you're wrong. But nice attempt though.

As for my comment, it still stands. My issue is the blatant copyright infringement and total ripping off of people's art and photography. It would be one thing to use images that are creative commons licensed or something similar. But taking copyrighted content, that's a serious problem. People seem to think that as long as they're releasing art for OSS based programs, it's ok to steal someone's property and work when really it isn't. If you want to reuse art or pictures to touch up and reuse as wallpapers and splash screens, try a site like Flickr. Most if not all of what's on there is creative commons licensed. - Oct 06 2006

This site especially is terrible for people thinking that they can take some image they find on the internet and publicly rerelease it and relicense it on a site like this. So unless the person posting this is the photographer, it should be taken down since he has 0 permission to reuse and relicense the original photographer's work. - May 01 2006
