KDE 3.x allows you to make menus translucent. In order to do this, you would have to open up KDE Control Center. Then expand "Look & Feel". You will then see a section "Style". Click on that and select the "Effects" TAB at the top. Select "Enable GUI Effects" which would then allow you to select "Make translucent" in the "Menu Effect" section.

You could then play around with the settings below to get the right opacity for you.

If you don't have that option, you could try installing Mosfet's High Performance Liquid Engine. - Oct 06 2002
