Both of them use qtcurve with different configs, I suppose. The following string is presented in strace for gimp binary:

Both of kcalc and gimp look similarly if they were started by mentioned commands, but look quite differently compared to kde4 apps. I couldn't diagnose this problem due to lack of knowledge in internals of themes customization, so could you please provide some of your suggestions on what could be wrong in my situation?

I don't know if it really matters, but gimp starts with the following output on stdout:
$ XDG_CONFIG_HOME= gimp
sh: cannot create /qtcurve.gtk-icons.18441: Permission denied

I have a problem using qtcurve with gtk2 applications: all of them use default qtcurve style which differs from the one that I use in kde4 applications. The same is for kde3 apps.

What I'm doing wrong? Maybe, I have to make some changes in kde3 and gtk2 configs? - Oct 02 2009

1) uncommenting Makefile:13, commenting Makefile:15
2) and replace Makefile:31 by

QMAKE_OPTS=DEFINES+=KDE_SUPPORT INCLUDEPATH+=`kde-config --prefix`/include/kde \
