VLC Extensions by exebetche 816 comments

Mmmh... there is a problem with opensubtitles, I think they have introduced a bug on their system; all the link toward subtitles files lead to a text file instead of a zip:
http://dl.opensubtitles.org/en/download/filead/src-api/vrf-c2358bd78d/1953805037.gz
Even on the website, if you click on the dowload link you go on a text file...
It still worked yesterday evening though. The dev should probably realize their mistake soon ;)
Thank you for reporting this. - Sep 30 2014

Hi, and thank you. The version of the script included in Vlc 2.2 pre-release hasn't been updated (this is version 0.9.10), so you should download the script from here and replace the one in your vlc folder (probably in ProgramFiles\VideoLAN\VLC\lua\extensions\VLSub.lua). It should be updated for the 2.2 release (let's hope). - Sep 30 2014

I don't know how this happened (slash mixed with backslash), I made test on Windws XP and wasn't able to reproduce it. But in fact it doesn't matter, backslash and slash are treated the same at this level. This was just the rush hour 3 hours ago and the servers were very slow. - Sep 16 2014

You have an outdated version of the script, extract vlsub.lua from the zip of this page and replace the script here:

It seems youtube_playlist.lua, then youtube.lua are not found by Vlc, so:
- check the path, maybe try to switch all users/current user directory
- check the extension is ".lua" and your browser didn't add a ".txt" at the end

You could pastebin your full debug log, maybe there's an error:

I know, it looks like they change something on youtube and some video doesn't work, but the problem come from a script include in Vlc, not this one, so you should report the problem to them.

Try with to load an url of a simple youtube video, not a playlist.

The job of "youtube_playlist" is to retrieve the list of videos and such. I removed the part that loaded the video long time ago because some people were not happy with it.
The script "youtube.lua" which is included in Vlc and maintained by a dev of the vlc team does that. If you get the playlist but not the videos afterward, it is probably a problem with "youtube.lua".

Also please do not paste your raw error log here, use a pastebin service like pastebin.com. - Aug 06 2014

I have no idea how you end up with html in your file because the original file does not contain any. How do you get the file?
There's usually no need to mess up with youtube.luac, only if you have and old version of Vlc.
Yes, the script can only access public videos and playlists, not the private one if that's what you mean. - Jul 31 2014

Hi,

The version of the script embeded with Vlc is very old and never worked. If you want to use it with a version > to vlc 2.0 (vlc 2.2 or 3, 2.1 doesn't work) you should try this version:
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/tobozo/vlsub/c818867564036b56ed362cb12d2b098caf1dc51f/vlsub.lua

Have a nice day you too. - Jul 31 2014

VLC Playlist Parsers by exebetche 359 comments

Vlc doesn't seem to see the script at all, it should be here for you:
d:\Downloads\VideoLan Client\lua\playlist\149909-playlist_youtube.lua

If you have this \lua\playlist\ directory with the file in it, check that it has a ".lua" extension and not ".lua.txt" for example.

Maybe try to install for current user or execute the installer as admin. Or you can just do it manually, you just have to create the directory and put the file in it.
Anyway it won't work on windows unless you use vlc version 2.0.x, version 2.1 and 2.2 won't work. - Jul 12 2014

Use the vlc console to get the error log:
- restart Vlc
- click Tools > message (Or ctrl+M)
- set verbosity level to 2
- try to lauch the extension again
- copy everything in the console with ctrl+a
- paste it on pastebin
- post the url of your pastebin here and mention you operation system and vlc version

with:

To fix the problem with the subtiles not loading, open the script with a text editor and replace at line 1625:
-- add_sub(target) or
add_sub(subfileURI)
with:
add_sub(target) or
-- add_sub(subfileURI)

I'm currently arguing with the Vlc team over this new dumb change of the api but for now I have no solution but to edit the script manually. - May 18 2014

No you're not, there's no 'gfind' function at line 1087 of the current script. The script being executed here is the one packed with Vlc 2.1 that hasn't been updated and doesn't work. You'll find it in the "all users" dir (refer to description). Remove it. Make sure you see the current version of the extension when you launch it (0.9.11). - May 11 2014
