but i'm not a python-developer (as stated above)... so i'm not the right one for your work. actually i'm a designer... so i'm sorry.
but maybe wolle1 will help you - if he has enough free time :-) - May 20 2010

i had the same problems, but with version 2.3 they are all gone.
maybe you wanna try another ics-file (if you have google calendar, this should work).
or try this ics-file for example: http://www.golem.de/guckt/GoGu_20100208.ics (TV-recommendations from golem.de). this file definitly works for me with eigencal.
i'm using compiz, ubuntu karmic 9.10
did you try to open the evolution-ics with gedit or another text-editor? is there anything in this ics-file or is it maybe empty? - Feb 10 2010

wolle1 did again some very effective bugfixing and now the screenlet should work like a charm :-)
PLEASE uninstall any previous eigenCal-installation (via the screenlets-manager using the option "uninstall screenlet"). download version 2.2 and install it as usual.
now everything should work fine - i tried it myself and it works. - Feb 08 2010

i'm experiencing exactly the same issues on my PC (where eigencal was already installed).
but i have no clue, what to do. hopefully wolle1 has a solution.
please be patient :-) - Feb 08 2010

i installed it on my laptop, pointed the ics-path to the evolution-ics-file and it works. but i'm not sure, if it will start on system-startup.
have fun with this screenlet :-) - Feb 08 2010

but maybe wolle1 has some information about that.
i experienced some problems myself with the new version: it isn't starting anymore, when ubuntu starts... but in the screenlets manager, it is marked as "started". Does anyobody know something about this? - Feb 05 2010

but if you go into the source-code it's quite easy to find, where the font is set. :-) - Feb 04 2010

so we probably won't add rounded corners on this theme... maybe someone will do another the with rounded corners. - Feb 02 2010

as i pointed out earlier, i am not a python-native... i just tried to tweak some of the screenlets appearance. i'm really sorry, that the evolution-integration doesnt work... i also experience those problems.
this is probably a bug in the ics-parser-class. if somebody nows about python and has some ideas for replacing the old ics-parser this would be awesome, because i don't have any knowlegde on how to do that.
concerning the themes: i would love to see my design as a theme for the "NowCalendar"-screenlet. but i don't think this will work, because the theme in "NowCalendar" is pretty hard-coded - as mine. i just tweaked the code...
it's a pitty, that i don't know more about python. because i would LOVE to use this screenlet as i expected.
SO PLEASE: if any of you knows somebody who is fluent in python, maybe he could spend 2 hours on the screenlet to develop it even further, this would be awesome! - Dec 15 2009

i did a reset of the standard look after the installation. now it is white text on black background.
you can get rid of the standard-calendar-image in the background if you choose the theme "none".
in the new version this is now the standard-theme after installation.
sorry, for the inconvenience :-) - Nov 25 2009

as i'm not a python-native i can't "upgrade" the screenlet to display more calendars.
but maybe it is possible to "join" two ics-files manually and point the screenlet to the new file. that could be a possibility.
or maybe someone else knows how to deal with more calendars... hopefully - Nov 24 2009

if you are interested, i did a remake of this screenlet. i deleted the calendar-icon and re-ordered the events.
