But, this is no reason to not get this theme going. As Dan Rabbit says on the Elementary Icon Project page - it all started with one blue folder icon. You have to start somewhere and this is a great start - just look at the buzz that has been created here. Gnome 3 would really benefit from a full set of new and original icons and this looks like a great start.
I like that these icons have a bit of a shine and gloss to them - too many of Gnome's icon sets are a bit drab and have a matte finish. Some of them do look a bit too close to Apple icons though ... perhaps some differentiation is needed in some of the icons?
A website would be a good idea - especially if there was an area where people could upload ideas and comment on them. How about a flickr group for ideas? It might also be an idea to develop the theme on a modular basis - mimetypes, actions, devices, apps etc. That way the work can be easily delegated and spread out to different people.
I really do hope that this takes off and eventually develops into a full theme with metacity, backgrounds and gdm themes too.

I don't quite understand your second problem - what is the actual name of the icon and what do you mean by 'lit'? Send me a personal message or email if it's easier and I'll try and sort it out.
cheers again,

I can't seem to find how the naming works for this. It doesn't seem to work with scalable icons at the moment - I'm trying to get this sorted as it really annoys me too!
Thanks for the praise though ... on my way to check out your themes now.

I'm not a licensing expert, but I'm pretty sure MIT means you can use it in any of your own projects. Anyway, take this as my permission granted.
It would be nice to see your updated icons.

Sorry for the delay in replying.
I'm sure that if you keep experimenting you will get a version that fits your needs. That's the thing with themes, you have to keep playing around with them until you get it just right.
I do hope to make some more icon themes, but they take a lot of time to make - not as easy as the emerald and metacity themes. They are difficult to keep the file size down too as they contain so many images. The googol icons will basically be a recoloured version of the ice icons, but at the moment I can't find a quick way of recolouring them without having to do each file individually! I'm sure there must be a quick way. Anyway, I will try to get something done as soon as possible.
Thanks for the comments!

To make the white parts totally transparent, why not try editing it? Go to System > Emerald Theme Manager, select the googol theme, then click on the edit themes button. Select the 'Theme Engine' tab, then select vruner. The first three options (left blend, middle blend and right blend) then just need changing to transparent by sliding the opacity slider down to zero.
You could then release this on Gnome-look as a variant theme!
Hope that helps - let me know how you get on!

Just one other thing - the folder icon in the screenshot won't appear in this theme - it is from an icon theme called Vista Inspirate (http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Vista-Inspirate?content=28352).
Hope that helps, keep asking if you need any more help,

You just need to right-click on the desktop, select 'change desktop background', then select the 'theme' tab and click on the 'customise' button at the bottom. Now click on the 'controls' tab and select 'Glossy', then click on the 'Colours' tab and choose the colours listed on the Cloud 9 page. Then click on the 'icons' tab and select ICE.
The only other thing you would need to do is to install the Cloud 9 emerald theme - have you got Emerald on your machine?
Hope that helps, let me know how you get on.

I can see making a whole set taking a whole lot of time, but hopefully it will make a nice, complete theme. The fact that it is so simple and minimalist should mean that it doesn't look dated. There is also scope for making some derivatives in different colours ... how about a FIRE theme??
Any help from anybody would be greatly appreciated.

The background I'm using can be found on Gnome Art:
http://art.gnome.org/backgrounds/abstract/2519
The Window manager is one of my own themes for Emerald:
http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Cloud+9?content=83590
I'm also using various icons for apps that can be seen in the dock, but most of them are from this OSX theme:

The dock is Cairo Dock:

The widgets are Screenlets - this can be installed using Synaptic.
Hope that helps,

If you could send me a copy of your modded version that would be great as your ideas might look better and (with your permission) could be integrated into the main theme.
