I'm using the easy metacity theme because I wanna be able to resize the windows, but i noticed that the app icon in the top left is always full saturation, while in some other metacity themes its like faded with the text if not focused. Could you fix this? Great theme btw. - Nov 15 2008

this theme is perfect. thank you!

one thing, on the very latest murrine svn, it doesn't work because of a small problem. the "style" line in the gtkrc causes it to break for some reason. remove that and it's fine. - Nov 04 2008

actually you know what? Just like your scrollbars, the new bold font changes have grown on me already. I must have some natural repulsion to change or something, but you almost always make changes for the better. I like the bold main menu and titlebar fonts/buttons. I also like how you can tell which button you're hovering over with the new emerald theme. Scratch making the clock bold, that doesn't look as good as without it bold. Keep up the great work! - Sep 27 2008

GTK2 Themes by perfectska04 663 comments

I'm not sure I like the bold text anywhere and I think it was better/more delicate feeling with less bold looking titlebar too. I do, however like the changes you made the the gtk theme, it's better without too many color inconsistencies thoughtout the theme. But unless you can find a way to make the boldness uniform inthe right places (i looked at how it would look like with bold menu-items and it looks weird) also, the clock isn't bold or the window list in the panel. But I'm not sure I'd like how those things would look especially with how heavy the bold sans font is (which is the best font to use by the way) All I can say is that I think it looked better without the bold fonts. Also, I'm not sure whether the buttons on the emerald/metacity theme is better or not. I think i liked the slightly squarish outline for the button better. - Sep 27 2008

yes it only shows up on one screen and the gdm is fine. I'm only talking about the wallpaper for the desktop once I'm logged in. It's stretched out across both screens and is therefore a different image than the gdm screen. I wanted to make one image to the effect that I had one copy of your wallpaper on each monitor. but there's no way to do that in preferences in gnome. - Sep 20 2008

I would really like a dual screen version of this wallpaper. It looks a bit stretched out across both of my monitors and creates a slight inconsistancy between the login window background and the background of the two monitors. (i would actually even be happy if you just released two copies of the green wallpaper glued together into an extrawide double image. I can't figure out how to do it in gimp without having cracks and white space.) - Sep 20 2008

compiz plugin is "ADD Helper" and yes that works well! thanks! As for murrine, I can understand hating the older versions of it, but the newer SVN versions are getting pretty good. Either way I think i'll see if I can make it to my liking by modifying the gtkrc. It already looks good though. The only real reason I noticed was because I have my window list on the panel on top without a bottom panel so the untransparent bottom part of the panel button was much more apparent to me. - Sep 14 2008

Intuition (white)

GTK2 Themes by newversion2 44 comments

the ONLY problem with this theme in my eyes is that you cannot tell which window is the active one. The titles of each active and inactive windows are the same so how can you tell them apart?
It is better if you can tell which is focused. I dont know how this could be fixed because i tried transparency and making the text lighter on inactive windows didn't look that good, but I think I'd probably use this theme if it weren't for that. I really like the transparent panels that get out of your way. One thing though, with the ubuntulooks engine the buttons of the active window in the panel look kinda wierd because there is a frame around the button on a transparent background. it isn't this way for pretty much any other engine. Maybe if you used clearlooks or murrine just in the panel it would look better? Just a thought. Either way, i can tell you have a natural ability for the themeing because this theme really appeals to my senses. it's "intuitive" if you will :) - Sep 10 2008

yes, but it just seems like the scrollbar is inconsistant because you see it so often.

In a theme that has offscreen scrolling you can have a maximized window in firefox and move your mouse all the way to the side of the screen on the right and click and be able to drag even though your mouse is not fully on the scrollbar. this way you have to click on the scrollbar before you can drag. It's just much easier and faster with offscreen scrolling and all of your previous themes until now have had it working. - Sep 03 2008

with the new update, the offscreen scrolling of the slider doesn't work. With all the color you're adding to different parts of the theme i'm starting to think maybe the old menus are better? idk. either way theres some inconsistancy. I like how you provided the latest murrine that was good! - Sep 03 2008

ok well i just didn't like that the outside borders were seethrough in some parts and not in others. I fixed it all by just making it opaque everywhere. I like it better that way anyway becuase it looks weird to me if the borders are transparent but the menubar isn't. Maybe when themes become advanced enough to make the menu transparent too it'll be better to do it that way. All in all, this theme is awesome and it looks really cool. - Aug 31 2008

the checkmarks are much better now that they are white. I still think we need a userChrome.css file in order to fix the unclickable text in menus. Right now it's black on the dark gray color. There is still the issue of the mouseover display for banshee but i can't image how this could be fixed...maybe look at how it's done in the Shiki-colors theme?

Also, I personally think that you should make a panel background that is the current color of the default but is slightly transparent. This will make it look cooler and decrease the clutter that all the window list buttons make. It looks better if the only outlined button is the active one on the panel IMO. - Aug 31 2008

Metacity Themes by xlcheese 7 comments

you fixed it, and now it works! excellent! I have to say though, the emerald theme still needs work...I'm no emerald wiz and I couldn't figure out how to make it work but until it's perfected, I'll just use the metacity theme.

ONE THING THOUGH! the inactive borders are a different color! I don't think this should be. I'm guessing you did this because the inactive borders are a little bit transparent with the gwd borders and compiz, but I urge you to change it to the same color becase the transparency can be turned off for inactive windows:

Just go to configuration editor>gwd and make the metacity_theme_opacity value 1.

Also, we need to find a way to make the close button bigger like the emerald theme. - Aug 31 2008

I too like the previous menus better. I think the current ones are too abruptly bright and colorful, or at least they are in the wise theme (my favorite). Also its a little bit harder to immediately read the white text on the bright green background. If not switch back to the old style, at least allow the option to change in the gtkrc. I love the smaller buttons! - Aug 30 2008

Ok i can't decided between the light and dark cheeselooks but neither is perfect yet. I think I'd like the dark one better if everything worked better and if the emerald was perfect as well. two other color problems: The "lock to panel" checkmark is black on dark color instead of a white background checkmark. In firefox, the addressbar suggestions have some text that is also black on a dark background. I dont know how you could fix the second one aside from maybe a userChrome.css file or something idk. dont abandon this theme or your engine! radio buttons look weird outline or something idk much about them. - Aug 27 2008

Beryl/Emerald Themes by xlcheese 3 comments

OK this emerald theme is awesome too, but theres a problem with the inactive window borders. They should be the same color all the way around but the borders below the title along the sides and the bottom are sorta translucent and the wrong color. Otherwise the only problem i see is a small shadow issue on the right side. - Aug 27 2008
xl_dark

GTK2 Themes by xlcheese 13 comments

OK well i don't know if these issues are problems with the theme or the engine, but seeing as you made both, i figure you can fix them either way.
one place where a theme problem happens is in the panel properties window. The "Orientation" dropdown box is white-on- white invisible. I'm sure there are similar problems elsewhere . Also, in Banshee music-player, the mouseover for seeing what is playing is black on dark color. In general, in menus the unselected text should be grey not black because then you CAN"T read it if you want to. - Aug 27 2008

Shiki-Colors

GTK2 Themes by perfectska04 663 comments

Okay, I found two bugs. One is kind of obvious and the other is very obscure.

Number 1: The highlighting of the address bar in Firefox 3 isn't right. The background of the highlight is white instead of the color of the theme. Basically, highlighting the addressbar acts differently than highlighting elsewhere in the theme.

Number 2: In Alacarte menu editor, if you choose to change an icon, the drop down menu for different locations for icons has white text on white background.

I know these aren't vital things (especially the second) but if you can fix them, it would really add polish to the theme. Great work so far! - Aug 14 2008
Shiki-Colors

GTK2 Themes by perfectska04 663 comments

I see no problem with including a userChrome.css file if the fix isn't trivial.

about the menus, I think they'll look best dark rather than light.

A thicker border that is resizeable is OK as long as it doesn't look like it's there--like clearlooks. If you can figure that out then I'm all for the thicker border. The borderless look is very clean and nice looking though, so try to maintain that.

Just thought I'd tell you about the icon thing in case you hadn't noticed. keep up the work! - Aug 10 2008
Shiki-Colors

GTK2 Themes by perfectska04 663 comments

I've noticed an inconsistency with the roundness of this theme. The scrollbars are zero roundness, but the menu's are slightly rounded while the window borders are much more rounded.

Also, I mentioned it earlier, but have you noticed that with the dark panel background the blue square in the menu icon seems shrunken becuase the outline of it blends in with the panel? I guess this could be fixed by lightening the outline of the blue square, but it's up to you. Don't forget about this theme! - Aug 09 2008

Shiki-Colors

GTK2 Themes by perfectska04 663 comments

Ok this looks, if possible, even better than the Gnome-colors suite! I also think the borders of metacity should be 2 pix. It needs an emerald soon too, but I know you're working on that. On thing I think you might overlook if I don't ever mention it is about the main menu icon. I love this icon but I think it looks best on a light panel background for one reason: the blue square. The outline of the blue square seems to blend into the background making it seem smaller. This could of course be the byproduct of my colorblindness or monitor settings. I think it could be fixed by slightly lightening the border around the blue square. Anyway keep up the good work and, by god, if they let you, join the ubuntu art team! quite soon mac users will be drooling! - Aug 07 2008
