Forgive my rambling but that's exactly my point. The wallpaper section should be organized in another way and non KDE wallpapers should have their own space.

Mixing different content types is no good from an organized pov. - Nov 25 2005

I'd like to ask the mantainers at Kde-look if posting photos not related with KDE as KDE wallpapers, has become a standard procedure.

The content is starting to loose organization thanks to the bunch of wallpapers uploaded as KDE wallpapers but with no KDE content.

The photos are cool, beautiful, great, you decide. But please, they have nothing to do with KDE.

Thanks. - Nov 14 2005

Well, it looks like the guys at kontact should have waited a little bit longer for the late entries ;) .
IMHO, this logo is much better than anything else that entered the contest. Very slick, stylish and polished. Well done !

Wallpapers can be ugly, pretty, whatever. Art as a whole is subjective but since there's something called organized content at kde-look.org, and there's also a place for such non-related kde art at "other kde wallpapers", why don't we make things as they should and put the content in it's place ?
You don't need to defend anyone. My remark is constructive, as i praise his work first and then advice him on how to do things correclty.
It's not a big deal, really. This is just called "constructive criticism". - Sep 12 2005
This is a cool pic and all, and it makes a pretty wallpaper, but please this is not a "kde wallpaper" because it has nothing related with kde.
Next time try uploading to other wallpaper. Thanks. - Sep 12 2005

"good piece of work, but I don't like it becaue there is no symbol for email and the symbols are hard to recognize in 48 size."

The reason there is no email symbol it's because it wasn't asked for the contact mantainers. In fact they asked for "communication, organization and productivity".

On the other hand, the "K" within the "@", does point to something related with emails, although kontact is not just an email program.

Regarding the symbols not being recognized in 48 and smaller sizes, of course they are gone but that's not a problem to me. When scaling down a logo like this, with more that one element, the smaller elements may be gone but the overall consistency of the icon - the 3 smaller ballons - is not compromised, but reduzed for the sake of simplicity.

Hope i could explain myself and thanks for the comment anyway.

Btw apachelogger. The svg is not being correctly rendered, i also have this problem with one of my PCs running kde 3.4 . Konqueror renders it well but the desktop can't.
I still haven't solved the problem ...

Yeah, i know, you're using SuSE, so do i. You have to compile everything with --prefix=/opt/kde3 or set the KDEDIR environment variable to /opt/kde3. - Oct 13 2004

They are different submitions but they are very similar. They even have the same elements and the positioning of the moon is the one you previously used in this icon.
IMHO he has a point. - Jan 10 2005
"I think he tweaked the original in Gimp\PhotoChop and cant replicate that look in SVG for final. Hence, the cheaper look."

I completely agree with you. I didn't even know the whole thing wasn't an svg at first.
IMHO there are some problems with the nose of the wolf and the way the moon is now.
There are some guys here at work which were also following the contest and they reffer the same thing. - Jan 10 2005
Congratulations.
What i don't get is why did you change the icon the same day you won the contest.
I do think the old icon was much better than this new one.
Anyway, which icon won, the old or the new ? - Jan 09 2005

Hmmm, i like the new version best ;)

Btw, the "howling" of the wolf has a relation with just one sound app, amaroK. While this is good because it is unique and people used to amaroK will understand the idea, you have to see things through the other perpective: people not knowing about amaroK will be lost when they see just a wolf icon .
Besides, what you reffer as "a subtle analogy for sending media waves" has already been (extremely well) done by euxneks and his icon "wolf howl" for this contest.

To flow: please don't get me wrong, i do like your icon, i'm just discussing details.

croky - Dec 14 2004
Well it is a question of taste regarding using or not using a speaker BUT if you put two icons in a desktop, one showing a speaker and other without speaker, i bet most people will hit the sound speaker icon if they want to launch a sound app ... just a thought . - Dec 14 2004
The icon is well designed and very sharp. But it doesn't make the connection to a sound app. Besides, i think i've seen already something very similar not too long ago ...

Well, you select a rectangular section with clouds, then copy&paste as transparent selection. This section will make the "lines" of each letter. Then you simply rotate as you paste and connect all the "lines" to make up the K, then the D and finally the E, flipping and mirroring the selection to be pasted gives it a more random look. At the end a smudge effect is applied to soften the straight edges and mimic random clouds on those edges.
