Its a very simple thing but I've been waiting a long time to have a nice dropshadow behind the desktop icon font in Gnome for a long time!

I can't speak for others but I think your work is very creative. Personally, I prefer a more conservative window decoration. One that blends in with the window and doesn't try to compete for focus. On the other hand, it still needs to be pleasing to the eye.

yeah thats true, and actually I've been running xcompmgr without the fade effects for about 2 hours now, I've been using firefox, kate, konqueror, thunderbird and juk so thats not bad..... I was checking the CVS last night and I saw they have something called kcompmgr, I'm thinking about compiling a CVS version to take a look

Chris - Jan 21 2005
I'm running slackware 10 w/ kde 3.3.4 beta1 and I can run (xcompmgr -c -f) for +/- 15 minutes until xcompmgr will crash. Granted your running CVS but it would be interesting to know how stable they've managed to get it.

How long can you run KDE w/ composite before it crashes or does it?

First off, Very nice job!

1. (This might be a stupid question) but how did you remove the toolbar in natilus? I've tried in gconf but regardless if the toolbar checkbox is checked it always shows up. (I'm running Dropline Gnome 2.8.2)

2. I'm trying to get Engage to work, but all I've been able to do is get a lot of green question marks. I've looked for tutorials and can't find any. Can you give me a link to where you learned how to get yours to work?

Thanks Chris - Jan 20 2005

This is a great add on for KDE, never again will I have to look at that stupid low res "clan bomber" icon for SuperKaramba!

One thing that I would like is the ability to change the button's appearance. Obviously this is beta, but it would be a cool feature down the road.

Keep up the good work!

Better desktop drop shadows

Chris - Oct 11 2004
Add this to your home/(your user)/.kde/share/config/kdesktoprc

under FMSETTINGS add:
ShadowParameters=0, 1, 16.0, 192.0, 2, 4, 0

Changing the numbers under shadowparameteres modify the shadow, there is a very good howto buried on kde-look. I would love to give the author credit but I can't find the damn thing :(

I'm looking at your volume control icon in the task bar. Is that a static icon? Or do the bars increase and decrease to represent the volume. If they do, where did you get that?

I just installed the latest baghira0.5g and I'm trying to turn off the menu effects in the style menu (fade, etc..) to try and make xcompmgr more stable. But there isn't an apply button and the "Ok" button doesn't save the changes. I've been able to in past revs. Am I overlooking something obvious or is there a problem?

Btw I love your work, Thanks for a great style and deco!

I've just installed the same thing on a
Pentium 4 (hp pavilion zd7000)
512 megs of ram running
slackware 10
kde 3.3
NVIDIA FX 5200 GO 128meg

It crashes immediately if xcompmgr is as a user.

It runs fairly stable but very well while its running if xcompmgr is ran as root. Superkaramba apps look terrible because there is a dropshadow around the app that shouldn't be there. The transparencies and dropshadows are very fast.

This is going to be amazing after they work the bugs out!

I'm trying to figure out how to modify the width of the dropshadow. Does anyone know how?

Nice work! I find it amusing to screw with a co-worker who is a diehard Mac user by imitating his OsX box down to the last detail. Then spout off on how its entirely free...and how much did you pay for that mac? $4000?

One way you could get the result you're after is by going to the panel menu, moving the main panel to the left or right side, so you don't accidently hit it when you are trying to use a karamba bar. Then set it to "hide" after 1 second. This will make the kicker invisible unless you move your mouse to the side you moved the kicker to.

Yeah, Its accually a superkaramba theme called BC Karamba Bar

I modified the top corner graphics slightly by adding the gradient to match the kicker background. Then if you click on the superkaramba theme you can press (alt f3) and set it to always stay on top. (Also remove the shadow if you have the kwin shadow patch). It's a hacked together way of getting the rounded corners but it works :)
