thx...I know how to do all that, but why not fix the icon theme so that they work as intended? - Sep 11 2006

1. could be altered with
style "ephybug"
GtkWidget::interior_focus = 1
widget "*Ephy*Location*" style "ephybug"

but then you do not get any focus. It is either an epiphany bug or a pixbuf engine bug and has nothing to do with the theme. It has been around for over a year for some reason, but then, so has the blue line at the top of the nautilus scrollbar so....go figure. - Sep 10 2006

I'd say you gave up too easily on the scrollbars. Unless I'm not understanding what you were trying to do, I have many themes that appear to not be square. But yes, gtk needs serious work. - Sep 09 2006

on top of the nautilus scrollbar is a bug that's existed for quite some time. I don't think there's a way to get rid of it. If there is, it would be nice if someone said how. - Sep 07 2006

k....I just can't stop once I've started....I hate that sometimes.
compiz was requested....
It's not polished, but it's usable... - Aug 20 2006
I can certainly make it that way but then it's not like the menubar.

I have lightened the highlight image and added to the inactive prelight button though.

I didn't want to lighten the highlight because now it doesn't match the menubar gradient, however the fact that it is on the light bg and caused the titlebar to go flat drove me nuts! Still does it, but not as quite bad.

If I knew where the engine was going I'd know better what to do. You mentioned keeping the ubuntulooks depends, but is that for the buttons?
I could lessen the glass effect on the metacity buttons and titlebar (smoothing it out) and ditch the highlight but....
then there's another gradient/glass on the scrollbar....

updated Mirage-NORMAL...
any better? do more of the same? - Aug 14 2006
* Mirage-NORMAL uses the lighter normal background color of your gtk theme.
* Mirage-SELECTED uses the bg selected color in the gtk theme and if your gtk theme specifies a metacity color to use, as the mirage gtk themes do, it will use that color.

"I actually think that unfocused windows look best right now."

I've tinkered a little and... - Aug 13 2006
following the trend with that style colored slider, I'd say either what the menubar (bg[SELECTED]) is, or the titlebar color. - Aug 11 2006
yes, it would be impossible for me to not know gtk uses insenitive. I used the term inactive, visually, because they are the same in essence, to the eye. - Aug 09 2006
hehe...unfortunately the only thing I can think that would look good is something vista. I've never cared for it, but since using compiz it has grown on me a bit. Then both window states would be light, bringing out the menubar.

Yes, that would be sweet to have an inactive menubar. Load synaptic and you'll see inactive text on the menubar, so implimenting it on the menubar itself doesn't seem like it would be all that hard to do, but I really wouldn't know. - Aug 08 2006
I'm beginning to wonder about the overkill factor. It does take away from the menubar to have the efect in the titlebar. - Aug 08 2006
actually, it's firefox that has a broken menubar, because it is not a gtk app. ....and it was already mentioned above. - Aug 08 2006
Still working on it, but here's an update

It now has gradients on the titlebar and a new image overlay to get an effect closer to the menubar. - Aug 08 2006
no I haven't tried transparency around the buttons, because I've found tint>alpha to slow metacity down if it is used too much. Since this isn't exactly a light engine it would be ok to do so, especially using the gradient image in the titlebar. Murrine was intended to be light/fast so I didn't want to use tint>alpha. - Aug 07 2006
That would be fine. Do you think the titlebar text outline is overkill?

Also, on a small window where the titlebar highlight gets into the buttons, the button outline is very dark. I don't think much can be done about that if the dark outline is desired on a normal window size.

I'll tinker with it and remove my gtk so that the package only has the metacity in it and it's in a Mirage directiry. Off to work now. - Aug 07 2006
"Yes, _that_ is nice indeed. I assumed robsta meant to make titlebar and menubar appear as one element."

ooo..well I didn't think of that because that would be heavy devel on metacity and gtk, and I can't imagine the usefulness of it either.

"Scrollbar is hardcoded right now, tree headers are in the "tree" style."

Yeah, I found the listheader. I updated the tarball rather quickly so you should have gotten the newer one with the flat listheader closer to the bg normal color. The update also has the inactive titlebar gradient. - Aug 07 2006
just that...
the 'full scale' gradient applied to the menu bg so that the menu is gradient. - Aug 07 2006
how about having the bg gradient in the menu? - Aug 06 2006
I don't think it is overkill and I think it looks fine without a menubar. We have Gilouche and everyone seems to like the effect.

Here's a quick hack on Murrine Metacity.
it includes the gtk with a diff metacity bg specified in order to get the right effect.

I'm in a hurry today but where is the color for the scrollbar and listheaders set? Somehow I've missed it...or it's a default or something?

Also look at the rhythmbox main bg gradient. It didn't like being resized. - Aug 06 2006
I was thinking the other day.....why can't we call gdk from a file (theme file) somehow? I would think it is one of those things that is possible but we just don't know how?

I know that would be a lame fix that themers should not have to deal with because of lame apps. Everyone got on this 'get firefox' kick and I screamed 'boycot firefox'! LOL ...we want gtk :D - Aug 06 2006

an engine install should not slow the system. This is the second time I've heard this about this, so it does make me wonder what is happening. I think the engine is registered when gnome loads, but I can't see why there would be a slow down because of registration alone.

yes, well, I wouldn't be concerned with the vertical. Only xfce users see that if they choose to in their panel :D

Are we talking about the dark vertical end lines? If so, clearlooks cairo doesn't have them.....I haven't checked rezlooks or candido. It really does look odd. Hopefully it can be fixed. - Aug 01 2006

yes well the theme is designed for the gnome-panel to have white text on a dark background, so of course if you are using something other than the gnome panel config of the gtk theme that uses a white background you'll have to make changes others would not have to. - Aug 14 2006

-updated/polished/more included gtk's

-leave the metacity that was designed for it
-remove the xfwm and make a separate link to it. You have the very old version and it was a mistake that I left the xfwm in the package.
