I'm using AmarokFS on Gentoo, and it's great except that the reflection is all wrong, showing a random part of the cover image instead of the bottom part.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Isn't there a T-ish theme already?

In any case, you might prefer the theme I based this on. The only thing I changed was the gradient. - Oct 12 2006
I don't quite understand what the problem is with the corners. Could someone explain?

There is a problem when using the reflections plugin, but otherwise it is fine as far as I can see... - Sep 24 2006
I prefer it this way, but if you open this theme in gcompizthemer, go to edit, titlebar, and look in the title-bar object layout box, you will see the text that describes the layout.

I haven't tested this, but I think if you change it from
C(7)N(7)X:I(2)T:S:OSX Layout
S:I(2)T:X(7)N(7)C:OSX Layout
It should look how you want it to.

Will test later when I have time. - Sep 12 2006

Any chance of the next version putting numbers into the output? It would make it easier to use it to read alphanumeric or hexidecimal codes over the phone.

For example, it would be nice if inputting X7Y8Z9 caused it to output "X-Ray 7 Yankee 8 Zulu 9" or "X-Ray Seven Yankee Eight Zulu Niner". - Aug 21 2007

Um... Does not run? This isn't actually supposed to be executed as such!

This is a theme for Emerald, which is a window manager for hardware accelerated desktops with the Beryl compositing manager.

You aren't supposed to try and extract the archive either. You should run emerald-theme-manager, press the "Import" button, and select the .emerald file from the location you downloaded it to.

This will only work if you're already running Emerald and Beryl. Last time I checked, this generally involved unsupported drivers on Ubuntu, but that may well have changed since then. - Apr 15 2007
There are two standalone programs for changing GTK themes than I know of. The one I prefer is called gtk-chtheme. The other is called switch2, and on my Gentoo box it is provided by a package called gtk-theme-switch. - Jan 16 2007
I'm not using GTK-Qt for the GTK apps, if that's what you mean.

I'm using the GTK theme "Milke", which matches quite nicely.

BTW, I stopped using GTK-Qt precisely because it tends to crash with Baghira.

I think the corners are configured in Baghira's config program, under Special widgets > kicker > remove bevel.

However, they are not always rendered correctly when using Beryl, as you can see in the top right of this screenshot. - Jan 14 2007
The three circles in the top left corner of each window are the buttons. Symbols appear on them on mouseover, like the buttons in MacOS X.

There is also a ? symbol, on the far right, for windows which use it.

I've just realised that for some reason, the buttons are missing on some windows in the screenshot. I don't know why that is, they are usually always there. It is possible that I had just restarted Beryl. I don't remember, but I'd better take a better screenshot. - Jan 14 2007
The widget styles in use in the screenshot are Baghira, in milk mode, and Milke, for the GTK 2 app you can see in the lower-right.

What do you mean by frame buttons? - Jan 12 2007
I find it easier than using dark themes. I find there to be very little confusion as to what various interface elements are, whereas with most dark themes I find buttons blend more with the background.

I also find this nicer to use than a normal-looking theme, e.g. Plastik, but that might just be a matter of taste. Plastik is a bit ugly.

Maybe this would be no fun on an LCD. Dunno. I hate LCD screens. - Jan 12 2007

Another use would be watching videos on a TV screen.

I use a different xorg.conf for everyday use than for watching videos with my card's tv-out, because I don't want to have to have cloned mode on all the time and be forced to use the low resolution that TVs support on my CRT.

However, I use xgame-gtk2 and a script I wrote for that ATM. - Nov 12 2006

Yeah, that's because the structure of the Baghira tgz has changed very slightly (top dir called baghira-0.8, in 0.7 it was called baghira-release).

Please don't use this ebuild; it is just a renamed 0.7 ebuild. Today or tomorrow, hopefully, I will put my working ebuild on KDE-Look (I'm just seeing if it compiles now). - Oct 10 2006
Sorry to reply to myself.

It seems that version 0.8 includes the patch already. You probably want to edit the ebuild to remove the patch if you don't want it to break on GCC 4.1 systems.

I could post a fixed ebuild if you want. - Oct 06 2006

Yeah, it's not amaroK reporting the tracks because I tested with that turned off completely. does generally report radio, but the player has an option to turn this off, so it must be possible.

Thanks for the explanation about problems coming from upstream BTW. - May 28 2006
Gentoo doesn't split the python distribution as such, it just has options, as with most packages. So rather than saying "install tkiner on gentoo", you could put a note saying that python must be merged with the tcltk flag. - May 28 2006
The lyrics and wiki work with streams in amarok 1.4. I think what he's suggesting is fixing the tags so it works. At the moment, the title is "Artist - Title", the album is "" and the artist is blank. Can you fix it so that the artist and title tags are correct, i.e. just take the part of the string before the - and make it the artist, and use the part after as the title?

Also, I find that the metadata doesn't always update at the end of tracks.

Also, is it possible to make amaroK not report tracks listened this way to

BTW, other than these few quirks I like this script a lot. - May 28 2006

These are really good icons. Will you make more of the same style? The lack of special folder icons, for example, makes integration with other themes a bit less effective.

AmaroK doesn't follow KDE's release cycle, so this isn't a KDE 4 brainstorm idea. (That's why amaroK is an extra package instead of a part of kde-multimedia).

Also, an amaroK theme is something more specific: a theme just for the sidebar on the left (which is actually a KHTML page), using CSS and sometimes images.

"Mockup" or "idea" in the title would be a good idea though. - May 05 2006
Reading the idea, I thought it would look really ugly, but having seen the mockup image, I think this is a really good idea and can be made aesthetically pleasing too. I voted good. - May 05 2006

Just looking through the KDE 3.5.1->3.5.2 changelog, I found a reference to this bug, fixed in 3.5.2 but not 3.5.1. Rendering transparent PNGs with KHTML seems relevant to it. - Apr 22 2006
When making brushed blue amaroK (, I encountered similar performance problems.

I suspect it may be to do with using small images which repeat to cover the background. Maybe KHTML gets delayed over each time it has to render /images/background.png? (small image of brushed metal which matches Baghira when tiled; I think you used it unmodified as /images/back.png. IIRC I made it by cropping the background from the original Brushed Blue, which used a single large image because it didn't need to support scrolling).

Maybe making the image a bit bigger so it only gets rendered 2-3 times would make it render faster?

Do your other PNGs repeat at all?

Is it possible that in background.png I have used some stupid encoding option in Gimp which makes it take longer to render? I don't know much about the PNG format.

In any case, this is all hard for me to test because I get this problem only intermitently. Can someone who can reproduce the performance thing try my theme to see if it is affected too? Thanks a lot. - Mar 25 2006

I have not themed anything except the context browser; the rest is just the KDE theme I use.

In the screenshot, I am using an excellent KDE QT style called Baghira, which you can find on KDE-Look if your distribution doesn't package it (Gentoo does).

It is a MacOS X imitation, and has two main modes, brushed metal (like Quicktime or iTunes) and Aqua (like most of MacOS X), which you can use at the same time in different applications.
