Description:

Windows 3.x-inspired cursor theme with hourglasses. The sands of time are running out for you, bro.
Last changelog:

0.8 6 months ago

- *_arrow -> sb_*_arrow
- rewrite do-symlinks.sh
- move symlink definitions to a separate file
- review all symlinks as a result
- fix brokenness on animaker.c (uninitialized variable) and png2cur.c (flawed logic
while testing for sizes with no hotspot) which means I was shipping broken cursors
for Windows. thankfully nobody uses them besides me

There's now a test build for the dark theme in the Files section. Try it out and leave feedback.

9 +I think it have huge icons, but it's cool and colorful :)

Make sure you download either the multi-sized version or the smallest size. Both start at 24px, which isn't any larger than other cursor themes.

The download page is a bit cluttered, but if you follow the descriptions you'll find the correct packages.

This pack is now perfect!

is it possible to have a 48x48 cursors pack? just some idiotic desktops (like LXDE) does not support cursor size, so they use the default size. I even tried to compile, stopped on a command "recipe for target 'lall' failed"

It seems like you're missing dependencies. Anyway, I'll build it for you and upload soon.

Report

many thanks, I had some success bty REMarked the lall procedure on the build script

anyway what I see now is LXDE and some others, support only single-sized cursors, I know... quite restrictive, would be fantastic if the build script could produce single-sized cursors on demand , eg by using a parameter to choosed the size.

(It's done. Check the 'Files' tab above.)

It has *some* support for single-sized cursors, but I never bothered to fully implement it (you can, e.g., run 'make SIZES=48 theme.left' and it will create a theme with 48x48 cursors only).

Insanely great.

The only change I would make is possibly a slightly narrower I-Beam Cursor like https://www.gnome-look.org/p/999999/

That was done in a haphazard way (to keep up with the spirit of the theme lol), but seems to be thin enough to me.

Outstanding job.
This is probably the most user-friendly icon set. The early Windows cursor set is hard to beat for ease-of-use even today, but this contemporary take is optimal for high res.

Thanks for your work.

I refined it a little more. It can be seen in the new screenshot.

Making it less fuzzy is only possible with pixel-crafted images. I'll think about that, at least for the smaller sizes, which suffer more.

Editing the changelog doesn't seem to work yet, but here's what I did: xfce-look.org can now host more than one file per artwork, so I added all the pack and the separate left-/right-handed versions to be downloaded directly from here. Oh, and the GitHub link, just in case you want to fork it. (Be gentle.)

(Also, making this place a into DeviantArt clone doesn't quite fit the audience, even though there's some intersection between the two. But that's another entirely different subject matter.)

I dimly recall a Win31 "waiting" cursor that had a yawning face with hand in front.

redraw color-picker, pirate and exchange

0.7.3 10 months ago

all-scroll: don't reverse colors on the center dot

0.7.2 1 year ago

- revert pointer to a standard pointing hand
- minor misaligment fixes and optimizations

0.7.1 1 year ago

- enlarge hands because they were way too tiny

0.7 1 year ago

- actually put effort into aligning to pixels
- redo mostly everything as a result
- dark theme ofc

0.6.1 1 year ago

- progress: animate hourglass
- wait: redo animation

0.6 2 years ago

- new size set (24-36-48-60-72), more consistency across sizes
- overall optimizations to account for the smaller size
- redo static/animated hourglass

0.5.3.1 2 years ago

copy cursor files only once (it's just a few kilobytes anyway)

0.5.3 2 years ago

return of the animated hourglasses

0.5.1 3 years ago

symlink grab -> openhand

0.5 3 years ago

A complete overhaul of the theme to make it more maintainable. The shapes are clearer in form and detail than it was ever possible with my impromptu build system.

0.4 3 years ago

- delete files from older versions
- text, crosshair: avoid blurry shapes by aligning to pixel boundaries
- pencil, draft: recoloring and reshaping
- pointer, openhand, closedhand: be a bit more anatomically correct, align
to pixels as well so that the fingers don't look weird
- zoom: make it fully white to stand out more
- zoom-in, zoom-out: change colors
- context-menu: the menu now looks more like a menu
- overall repositioning of overlays because I must have fucked up with
something

0.3.26 3 years ago

Make precision cursors (crosshair, text) slightly thinner

4 years ago

0.3.24
- zoom is now less ugly

0.3.23
- swap back col-resize/row-resize, GTK+ applications have fixed themselves

0.3.22
- left hands for the left-handed

0.3.21.1
- small version bump for the new license (MIT/X11)

0.3.21
- pointer: actually fix the lenght of the index finger (the commit didn't make it through the last release)

0.3.20
- another facelift edition, check the preview

0.3.19
- added some legacy cursors (based_arrow_(down|up), *_tee, *_angle)

0.3.18
- give some life to draft by coloring it, make pencil look like it;
- make shadows more consistent across pointers, specially the hands;
- change colors of dnd-move's fleur and the question mark in help;
- rework the hourglass to make it look better in small sizes
- other minor tweaks to incrase visibility

0.3.17
- turn right_ptr into a horizontal arrow pointing right, so that it looks distinct in the left-handed theme;
- optimize context-menu to look good in small sizes;
- add draft, wayland-cursor and other arrows, as found in the new KDE cursor theme

0.3.16:
- added dnd-move and dnd-no-drop;
- softened shadows for tcross and xterm/ibeam;
- speaking of tcross, it's less ugly now;
- lots of debugging to figure out where those symlinks should really point to. Updates will become less frequent from now on, unless a bug is found or someone makes a request

0.3.15:
- fix col- and row-resize mess (I blame my sources)

0.3.14:
- Add more sizes because all the cool kids are doing it, and I want to be cool.

0.3.13:
- cursors for the young and old

0.3.12:
- left-handed version

0.3.9:
- add cursors that were still missing
- rework it some more because it's never good enough;
- replace the ugly fountain pen with a more distinct pencil

0.3.6:
- small changes to make it more consistent

0.3.4:
- new cursors added

0.3.2:
- hotspot fixes
- add animation for 48x48 hourglass as well

0.2
- fix size of the default pointer
