Hi. I've installed 1.2 on Kubuntu 9.10 64bit with kde 4.4. No errors in compile but when I load it I get and error saying "No Suitable Data Engines found" and there are no options to select in the providers.

Is 1.2 not working got kde4.4 (need to wait for 2.0) or am I missing something?

My ultimate end goal would be to have photos of the day from http://blogs.wsj.com/photojournal/ cycle every x minutes as a wallpaper (with the captions). This project looks like the best way of achieving that.

Cheers
Tris

Hi. I`m with Kubuntu 9.10 64bit And I don`t have problems to install neither on KDE 4.3 nor КДЕ 4.4.

If you want you can try 2.0 http://gitorious.org/photo-of-the-day. It`s ready. Currently I`m testing it and I`ll release it very soon

Just an idea (I don't know if it is easy to do):

Could it be possible to make this plasmoid cover all desktop, I mean, is there any way to use it as a wallpaper?

Thanks

Yes, It`s possible. It can be written a wallpaper plugin using current data engines to download photos. I`ve had this idea before but there are some problems:
1) Most of the photos are small ( on a netbook or small notebook it is not a problem ). Only National geographic and NASA`s are big enough for use on 17 inches or bigger displays.
2) A lot of photo has different aspect ratios than those used in displays so in most cases photos will be cropped, scaled or with colored frame.

I have a strange problem under 4.4 rc3.
( compile fine , no errors )

Photos don't stop to blink each second.

Yeah, this is really strange. Can you make a screen cast? Or try to update first to final release.

You can find my packages for openSUSE here in the openSUSE Build Service:

http://software.opensuse.org/search?baseproject=ALL&p=1&q=plasmoid-potd

Version 1.0beta is only available in repositories with KDE 4.3 or newer (Factory, UNSTABLE), because of changes in the KIntSpinBox class. Repositories linked against older KDE4 versions contain version 0.6.

I forgot :(

It will compile only on KDE 4.3

At this moment there are only two engines: National Geographic and EarthShots. In next days I will try to add all requested websites :)

Maybe this http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php/Astronomy+Picture+of+the+Day?content=2386 can help with the NASA photo

Thanks

Thanks for suggestions :)

I`m working on version 1.0 and soon I`ll release a beta :) . It will have many improvements. The major one is that photos will be downloaded through data engines that uses only a standard Plasma API, so these engines will be possible to be written in any language supported by Plasma :)
