CAMEO-ALU-Dark

This is the a dark Cameo theme with aluminium headerbars.
It has all the benefits of my Gnome-Prof-theme (better scaling and better font-rendering)

3 versions available:

- Cameo-Alu-Dark with a matching gnome-shell theme.
- Cameo-Alu-Dark with a blue selected color and matching shell-theme
- Cameo-Alu-Night, an easy-to-the-eyes theme for working in a dark environment.

Now with support for Dark-Mode and adapted to work with 4K.
Now also support for GTK2.

How to install:

Just copy the extracted file to a '.themes'-folder you make in your home directory, or better copy to /usr/share/themes for system-wide use.
Then use Tweak-tool to select the GTK.
LOG OUT AND BACK IN for changes to take effect !

Limitations:

This is only works in the gnome-desktop.

Excellent quality! Personally enjoy the "Night" version especially. ..... Personally, my monitors are all 4K. Non-Gnome apps' Title Bars are very large. Maybe that's some of what you're referring to when you say, "no support for 200% scaling." Other than that, so far other things look fine. I think I will use another theme for the moment and check back periodically in case you decide to include support for 200% scaling. ...... Is that something you're thinking of doing? Including support for 200% scaling? Fixing the large height for Non-Gnome app Title Bars? ...... Again, excellent work.

Versions 1.4 supports 200% scaling. Please try, for I have no 4K-monitor to test.

Unfortunate you're not going to make this a full suite. Can you share the tools, etc. that were used to create this? Also some of the color codes? I'd like to have this for my Openbox desktop.

So Paul, would you consider a variant with colored select bar and buttons (instead of black)?

Nice but PaulXfce have you abandon Xfce ? No more new themes or adaptations.

True, basically because XFCE still uses an outdated xfwm. You need to remake every graphical element.
I've been a themer since 2007. So I am getting tired redoing everything for every DE.

Ok, your call Paul. Still Manjaro flagship, Xfce is the one of the most popular Linux distro, if not the most. I appreciate the beautiful themes you did for it and it's used on all my computers now. That will be sad not have the best designer put it aside.

So you should rename yourself PaulGnome then ! Just kidding ...

Just installed the latest Manjaro XFCE in virtualbox. Although they've ported many to GTK3, it still surprises me that they still choose to hang on to QT or GTK2-applications. This is exactly the reason why it is still a horrendous undertaking, trying to make a consistent theme. GTK2 is not advanced enough to make it as good a GTK3, and QT is.. well unthemable, or you have to use the GTK2-version of the theme. And even then, it just looks bad.

Themingwise, I would prefer XFCE using only GTK3 applications. Then, it would be easier and more consistent.

Existing themes on XFCE are (and that my personal opinion) plain, boxy, old fashioned and the UI is still very 90's. I mean: a titlebar, a menubar and a toolbar and let's throw another bottom-toolbar in it. That is what the 'modern' thunar looks like. Too much real estate. But that is my opinion. I'm not an advocate for Gnome-DE, I just like the consistency and the minimal use of headers in their UI.
About my name, well PaulXFCE is indeed not well choosen...

I don't want to drag on this conversation because it is not the place really but I don't think you remember me. I use Manjaro Xfce on my 6 computers and the only theme I use is your outstanding "Prof-XFCE" 2.1 theme. I think your are the only one to make so complete and professional looking theme. You even modify it for nemo which I use in xfce. I even submit it to the Manjaro group as their default theme which beats their goofy theme. That's why I am sad that you are abandoning xfce. I believe Manjaro is all gkt3 based now as I don't see ANY discrepancies anywhere with your theme.
Anyway I'll be watching If you ever produce another one of that caliber. Seems that you are the best one at that job.

Ya, why take the easy way, if there is a so more chalenging difficult path to pursue. Sorry for ranting yesterday. And yes, I do remember you now. Alright, just tell we which theme you'd like me to port. And I will try to give it a shot.

Thank you very much. God forbid I tell you what to do but here are my personal pick for a full blow xfce theme, if I may. Not a fan of dark themes but your cameo series is great. Speaking of Manjaro, the cameo-manjaro series could be a full blown xfce theme for their flagship. Specially love the Cameo-Manjaro-Light, Light-DS. Finally I always had a thing for your 2018 Orangini theme which have a good balance of dark and light colors with a beautiful orange accent.

Ok time is not the essence for me so take all the time you like. Beautiful colors matching is. Nothing wrong also experimenting with gnome themes too.

Take care

This question has nothing to do with your theme : In your screenshot, I can see an icon theme with different colored folders. How do I get this? I installed the folder-color package, but I'm not getting this rendering ... Thank you for your answer.

Open your software-center and search for 'folder-color'. It's an extension for nautilus which allows you to change the folder-color in the right-click-menu is you select a folder. You need to have an icon-theme that supports colored folders. Most good icon-themes do.

Thanks so much for adding the gtk2 support! It makes qt5 apps look good too, with the older and more reliable QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME=gtk2 method. This is a really massive improvement, and it really helps, so thanks again! I still really love the contrasts within the dark greys of this theme, and the unusual lighter title bars. Aesthetically it's really pleasing overall, somehow. Please can you add a keyboard focus highlight for buttons? This is really important for accessibility! The Skeu and Menta themes look good at this, and even Adwaita gets the job done in a basic but ugly way. If you can navigate gtk3-widget-factory without the mouse, you're on the right track! The background color for highlighted text is too close to the text entry background color where there isn't any text. It makes highlighting text hard with the mouse. Quickest example I can think of is in Nautilus, and pressing Ctrl+L to enter a location manually. It highlights the current path for you, but you don't necessarily see that with this theme as of 1.5 / 1.5.1 even the blue-highlight variant. It'd be OK to reduce text contrast in the highlighted area I think, and lighten the highlight's background color so it's distinct?
