Description:

If for some reason the changelog hasn't updated to reflect the latest version (it hasn't been working since 1.3.1) you can see the changelog at https://github.com/godlyranchdressing/Minwaita/releases

# Description
Reduces excessive padding from the default GNOME, Adwaita to make it more compact. Some of the additional tweaks include:

Window shadow being reduced to get rid of the "dirty" look Adwaita has.
New window buttons. Vertex, OSX and vanilla style.
The appmenu icon in the topbar has been removed (with spacing accounted for) as well as the dropdown arrows
There is now a light variant of the shell theme
The spacing in third-party indicators and the aggregate menu have been tweaked to make it all appear uniform
Additional Dash to Dock styling to make the dock feel more "complete"
A couple more tasteful design tweaks such as removing the progressbar borders all for a cleaner look
The end goal is to provide a sleaker, more streamlined GNOME experience without the need for too many extensions and additional tools.

# Installation
Copy the folders to [username]/.themes or /usr/share/themes for a global installation.

# Recommend extensions
Dash to Dock, Dynamic Panel Transparency (don't hide corners) + Top Icons Plus.

# Move window buttons:
Just in case you're curious and don't know how. In terminal:
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences button-layout 'close,minimize,maximize:'

V1.6.1 2 years ago

Fixes for 3.26. Fix the issue where Chrome would show a generic icon when a window is maximized. Remove white line on desktop when desktop icons are enabled and the top panel is semi-transparent.

I think -gtk-icon-filter is gtk4 only and hasn't been back-ported to gtk3.

Perhaps you can also modify the icons size in the Activities overwiew ? In gnome-shell.css we can find

.icon-grid {
spacing: 30px;
-shell-grid-horizontal-item-size: 136px;
-shell-grid-vertical-item-size: 136px; }
.icon-grid .overview-icon {
icon-size: 96px; }

Reducing the size will probably give less impression to some people than GNOME is only designed for tablets.

That's a great idea. I came out with this:

.icon-grid {
spacing: 0px;
-shell-grid-horizontal-item-size: 96px;
-shell-grid-vertical-item-size: 64px;
.overview-icon-with-label{text-align: center;} // the label container
.overview-icon-with-label:last-child{spacing: 48px;} // the label itself
.overview-icon { icon-size: 64px;}
}

Which looks fantastic but folders end up looking weird. I'd try and correct that but looking glass doesn't let you select anything in "All", only "Frequent" and I don't think folders end up there so... sigh. I'll upload this theme onto Github as well so you can contribute if you find a way to get around that.

Looks really nice and appealing, but will it ever work with Gnome 3.18 on Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS? I'm not keen on updating gnome to check if the theme works, also - I'd like to retain stability ... please let me know how to make it work under Gnome 3.18

Have you tried it? I want to know because I haven't had anyone let me know if it's not working with anything under 3.20. It might for all I know, I've only verified that it works on 3.20 and up. Adwaita Compact (what this is built on top of) has a 3.16 version posted on GitHub. I can just make the same changes I made with this version if you'd like.

Yikes. Those errors are normal, they are things I need to fix on my end and yes, the scrollbar is a bit too small. I'll update the theme soon enough but for the time being, adding this at the end of gtk.css should help with the scrollbar being too small:

scrollbar{
min-width: 20px;
}

scrollbar contents{
min-width: 18px;
}

thank you. with 20px -->10px and 18px--> 0px... at moment is working for me. This theme needs only little fine-tunings, but it is nearly finished and perfect. What y noticed was only: scrollbar in Nautilus to small, right click in menu in places in Nautilus ... "hover" is white and the same to the rest, in gedit if you are searching something and "the counter of find objects" do Not fit fine in textframe... I hope you understand what i meant. Compared with arc-ocx and united gnome y stay with Minawita ;)
Thx again for your hard Work.

I like it but how do you remove the outline on the header bar/titlebar buttons?

I put instructions on how to do it in the description. I'll probably push out a different version with this in a couple days. I don't think I can help with your Firefox problem though, sorry. It looks fine on my end. Can you possibly give me more info? Are you using the light version or the dark? Any themes or extensions?

I am using the light version. It's interesting that it seems to have begun showing a light titlebar on firefox now but it doesn't integrate completely. If I use keepassx it uses a dark titlebar. Theme is very good but there are a few minor issues. If there is a way to send you screen shots. Let me know in a private message.

That happens sometimes with a few programs. Usually killing it in System Monitor or refreshing GNOME (Alt + F2 then "r" as the command) helps. I asked which version you were using because Firefox is a bit finicky with the dark version right now. And that might take a while, unfortunately, I can't send PMs yet. Lol.

V1.6.1 2 years ago

Fixes for 3.26. Fix the issue where Chrome would show a generic icon when a window is maximized. Remove white line on desktop when desktop icons are enabled and the top panel is semi-transparent.

V1.6 2 years ago

Darker variant + a couple fixes. The dash now uses external assets instead of the box shadows so the "not quite transparent" background behind it is now gone.

V1.4 3 years ago

GTK2 assets match the GTK3 ones. The Shell takes after the GTK3 theme: The panel looks like the headerbar, the entry fields and buttons look like their GTK3 equivalents etc. Panel corner radius and the dropdown arrows in the panel have been removed. Selected popover menus have their background color take on the primary (blue) color to better indicate that it's been checked and probably a couple more small changes. Minwaita's pretty much done from now.

V1.3.3 3 years ago

GTK2:
Inactive text and background color for the dark GTK2 were the same color.
Checkbox and radio assets closer resemble their GTK3 counterparts
The missing assets issue has been resolved.

GTK3:
Box shadow dimensions for the window's active and backdrop state weren't consistent, leading to the transition between the two states being rather jarring as the window adjusted. This has been fixed.

Shell:
Minor readability and visual cue improvements. Background and foreground colours match the GTK3 colours.

V1.3 3 years ago

Dash to dock users have an even fancier dock. Looking glass text has been fixed in the light shell variant. Borders around progressbars have been removed because they were just really ugly. Padding (don't freak out) has been added to make a couple buttons, mostly image buttons look less "weird"

V1.2.2 3 years ago

Adwaita actually has a light variant of the shell theme but if you choose to compile it there'll be a couple bugs all over the place because of static values being used here and there that only works for the dark theme. I just tweaked it a bit and modified the default assets to fit in with the light theme. Also, padding for lestcape's global menu has been added if you're using that extension.

V1.2.1 3 years ago

More dash to dock tweaks. The volume slider in GNOME Shell is smaller and sleeker. On the non-shell side, the window shadow has been turned down to get rid of that "dirty" look and the context menu highlight colour is back to the way it was, apparently it's like that in the original Adwaita.

V1.2 3 years ago

The dark version works for GTK2 apps. The blue highlight colour is now used in all context menus. Dash to dock users have a more noticeable running and focused indicators (that remains consistent with the rest of Adwaita) as opposed to the old running dot.
