Are there any plans to allow the user to manage USplash themes with this program? If so, I would definitely replace Startup-Manager with it.

Another package is available (thanks to Nicola Yanev). This time it is an .rpm. It will work on most rpm-based distros (if not in all of them). See the links above.

You finally fixed the window resizing bug with 2.0 Now, I'm just waiting for a .deb to make QGrubEditor complete.

Υοur wish is my command ;-D! I created a .deb package! It certainly isn't perfect as it is missing some elements which every package should have but at least it works. It installs QGRUBEditor just perfectly and then you may remove it through the convenience of your package manager. It is the very first package I create so it isn't perfect. Maybe apachelogger could create a better package since he has more experience. Anyway, you can find the package in the links above. Have fun!

Second major version of QGRUBEditor is out!

The whole source code was rewritten(I would appreciate it if other developers could assess the new code) and now QGRUBEditor runs flawlessly (at least for me). Many new features were implemented and some of the old ones were enhanced. In the ChangeLog you may find some of the changes (unfortunately not all of them) but I strongly advise you to download QGRUBEditor and test it on your system. The new features are amazing (especially the data viewing feature which in my opinion will be especially helpful for newbiews - try pressing "Ctrl+V" in the main window) and above all they run like a gem!

All feature requests were done (see the previous posts) except for GRUB2 Support :-(. This wasn't done due to lacking documentation. From September till next summer, I'll be having much less free time so if you wish to see any of your ideas completed, please let me know soon.

PS: All translations but the Greek one is outdated (translators are probably on vacation). Whenever they are ready I'll update the download. Oh, and thanks for the Arch Packages ;-D.

Sorry for taking me so long to answer but I was working hard on QGRUBEditor and QAliasEditor. Hopefully I released the first version of QAliasEditor and in a couple days I will release version 1.5 of QGRUBEditor. It has changed dramatically. You'll notice it immediately!

Ahoy!
I'm working on a Kubuntu package of qgrubeditor and want to report some issues.

* GenericName in the desktop file should actually be a generic one, e.g. System Utility
* The desktop file is missing the Categories tag, e.g. Categories=Qt;System;

for both see http://standards.freedesktop.org/desktop-entry-spec/desktop-entry-spec-1.0.html

* I'd suggest to place the application related data in /usr/share/apps/qgrubeditor instead of /usr/share directly, this keeps the structure clear

* /usr/share/applnk/System/ is not a proper installation path for the desktop file

desktop.path = /usr/share/applications/

....if you want to only show it in KDE use the OnlyShowIn=KDE tag. If so, you might want considering to provide a 2nd desktop file including NotShowIn=KDE using Exec=gksu qgrubeditor instead of X-KDE-SubstituteUID

Hope that was not too confusing ^_^ really good application

Thanks a lot for your advise...

As you can see I did all the changes you told me... I hope it is easier for you now to create the package. Whenever it is ready send it to me via e-mail so that I can upload to it to SourceForge. (You can see my e-mail in the About Box. I am the head developer ;-D)

PS: I hope the package you are creating is for version 1.3 of QGRUBEditor and that it will be compatible with all (K/X/Ed)ubuntu versions.

(And you weren't confusing at all)

Dude, you honestly rock!

Though I don't do as much... forgot the most important thing:

Please add Copyright (!!) and License (!!) notes to every source file (as stated in the COPYING file, line 282 sqq.)

And writing about the COPYING file. The version you're shipping is out of date. The FSF isn't located in
59 Temple Place, Suite 330
anymore, see http://www.fsf.org/about/contact.html
You might consider updating the address :)

I gotta wait for your changes, before I upload a new revision for ubuntu reviewing. Btw, instead of putting the deb on sf.net you might consider just linking to http://packages.kubuntu-de.org/en/ which is where I will store my backport anyway.

Hi,
QGRUBEditor is going to be a very nice program.
maybe you can add these features :
+ a thumbnail of a splashscreen (and a way to install it)
+ a way to chose and configure Grub-2 (and its gfxmenu)
+ a link to auto find all your partitions
+ a way to find all the (hd0,0), because it means nothing to novices

humm...there's a lot of usefull things to be added.

Good work ;)

+1 for grub 2 support.

The file to edit would be /boot/grub/grub.cfg

The format is completely different so I am not sure how doable this is.

To tell you the truth, I don't know how GRUB2 works (which file it reads, the syntax of the file bla, bla, bla) so if you were so kind as to give me a couple of links and/or a file such as menu.lst I would really appreciate it...

(I googled for it but what I found was irrelevant... :-D )

Thanx in advance!

This tool is brilliant. I would like to produce a Fedora 7, and possibly Ubuntu, package for it, if you don't mind and/or haven't already.

Perhaps I could also port the build system to CMake, as I have experience of doing that with my own project (QTM) and Speedcrunch. This would eliminate the need for the custom install.sh script.

Report

C

I would really appreciate your help, since I don't have time to create binary packages. However, I would advise you not to create a package for version 1.0, because v.1.1 is almost ready and is much better. Believe me.

Furthermore, is it possible to create packages for every two or three versions?

Last but not least, if you could transfer the install system to CMake, that would solve many prblems and thus, I really prefer it to the install script(which in fact was a temporary solution).

Thanks!!!
