0.8 - Changelog:

* The program has got a Hunspell-based morphology system. Any regular Myspell/Hunspell spellchecking dictionaries can now be used for word stemming during searches in order to yield better matches. They are also used to provide spelling suggestions for mistyped words.
* Support for Sound Dirs (arbitrary directories full of audio files) added. This allows using StarDict's WyabdcRealPeopleTTS or any other arbitrary audio collections.
* Support for dictd dictionary files (.index/.dict(.dz)) was added.
* Folding algoritms now incorporate punctuation and whitespace folding. This greatly helps finding words prefixed with dashes or quotes, phrases consisting of differently joined or misjoined words, and also generally allows not using any punctuation or spaces at all while typing in inquiries.
* When headwords contain multiple words, each of them is indexed now. This, together with the punctuation and whitespace folding, and a new rank-based sorting algorithm gives a completely different feeling when typing in inquiries. It's now possible to see not only direct matches, but also different phrases involving the word, different word combinations which are close to the inquiry, and so on.
* All dictionary requests are now processed asyncronously, and on SMP systems in parallel. This gives smoother UI and faster load times at the same time.
* When no matches are found, the program now suggests close words.
* Support for global hotkeys was added. It's now possible to show or hide the main window using a hotkey, and translate a word from clipboard. The default keys for that are Ctrl+F11+F11 and Ctrl+Ins+Ins, respectively.
* The search pane is now fully dockable. It can now be resized, placed at different places of the main window, detached to a separate window, or be hidden at all.
* A dedicated 'Pronounce word' button was added. Clicking it would play the first audio reference in the article. It is also possible to configure the program to do that automatically.
* There's now a 'Table of contents' for the current article which allows quickly navigating to definitions from the different dictionaries. It's available in the right-mouse button context menu.
* Dictionaries have icons now, based on their types (patch by Ars). Dsl dictionaries use their individual icons if those are available.
* Options to open tabs in background and open tabs after the current one added.
* There's now an option to allow pressing scan popup modifiers shortly after the selection was made, lifting the requirement to hold them during the whole word selection proceess.

hi,

I've converted Hindi-Hindi wordnet (GNU FDL) to DSL format.

Please include this dictionary in your website.

Hindi to Hindi Dictionary and Thesaurus version 1.20:

Here's the website which proves that it is opensource and free:

The Hindi WordNet API is released under GNU GPL 3.0 and the lexicon under GNU FDL

could you please take the good qualities from the software "lingoes"

http://www.lingoes.net/

Its interface seems nicer, The fonts and colors adds to lingoes' visual clarity.

http://www.lingoes.net/images/demo_main.png

Can we have "colored" (html tagged/coded, bold, italics, color, etc.) in goldendict?

How can we achieve that?

is there any sdictionary file editor, like pyglossary?

thanks.

I downloaded the binary. (I wonder what would happen if I were to symlink my qt-so's to the ones supplied? Dare I?)

1. I placed paths to places where dictionaries should be /usr/share/dict, /usr/share/dictionaries-common, etc. The program finds none.

2. The HTML-based online dictionaries such as those at answers.com, google-translators, etc. How or can I integrate them. Answers.com would be a desired hit.

3. Babylon dictionaries. How to install them?

Those are spellchecker dictionaries. You need either StarDict, Babylon or Lingvo dictionaries. Some stardict dictionaries should be available in distributions (e.g.stardict-xmlittre). Others are available on the net in a multitude of places.

> The HTML-based online dictionaries such as those at answers.com, google-translators, etc. How or can I integrate them.

At the moment this isn't supported. The easiest to support are probably wikipedias. This might probably happen in future.

> 3. Babylon dictionaries. How to install them?

Just download .bgl files from http://www.babylon.com/gloss/ to some directory, and then put that directory to the list of sources.

Babylon's site wants you to buy the program first, for which I have no need.

Answers.com is easy to call up and presents HTML very much like your screenshots. Also offers translation.

HTML driven translation is available through google and yahoo, I believe.

I will try to get some stardict items. I believe that the online services should be a priority because your UI is very well suited for this!

You don't have to buy the program to download Babylon dictionaries. Though it's up to you of course.

As for online services -- yes sure, but they were already available before, and supporting them would just add a bit of comfort querying them. The itch for GoldenDict was instead lack of any decent way to see .bgl and other offline dictionary content.

Anyway adding online services would require some program rework (cause of network latency and availability problems), so that isn't going to happen anytime soon.

On the other hand, I've changed my mind. Version 0.7 now has Wikipedia support.

This is (or will be when I install qt4.5--I cannot advise folks to keep multiple qt versions around because this can cause problems with kde and other stuff). Since it is html based, it can (hopefully your interface lets me) include stuff like answers.com, etc.

Feature if not already there: CLI (or dbus) interface so I can write a plasmoid (maybe dataengine)--drag and drop to icon, bring up view.

Eagerly awaiting qt4.5 (supposed to be much faster too!).

You can install qt-4.5 into its own separate directory (actually, this is its default installation option when compiling from source), and then point your PATH and LD_LIBRARY_PATH there in your shell session to work with it.

If I were to also compile kde4.2 with this, I would, but I do want to do so but use the Debian packages. My experience is that an error over differing versions of QT (within the same version!! as well) will occur.
