I know that to develop a app is not a easy work, but I had to say :please do not continue this app, I am sorry to say that.

the idea of ftp tranfer and operation implement is wrong, it is single thread.
so when you download something from a FTP server, the app had to lock the "remote window" to wait the thread finish.

it is the same as "kasablanca", another ftp client you can find at the site.

and, I think maybe the app is also use some idea or implementation from kasablanca.

the correct way is to use "FTP kioslave", like kbear.

up to now, there are only two useful FTP tools under KDE, the firstone is KIO_FTP, the other is KBEAR.

sorry to say that, maybe you need a new idea to implement FTP protocol, not "kasablanca" style.

No!

first of all, why should anybody stop developing anything? just dont use it if you dont like it.

second: kio_ftp maybe good for most ftps, sometimes it is not. if the server accepts only one connection at a time, you will learn to hate kio_slaves.

maybe you will be gladfull someday if kio_slave freaks you out!

You are clearly mistaken, i have seen the implementation of KIO slaves in KBear and i think this design is very bad in my opinion, since a KIO slave is an external process and multi-threaded architecture is better for such programs.

The current architecture is multithreaded, so each FTP connection is in it's own thread and so it does not block the GUI.

The app actually doesn't need to disable the remote window, but this prevents the user from browsing while performing operations. In the 0.5 version this limit will be removed since the current cache will be used to support cached browsing while executing transfer.

Nice app!
I think, KDE need a good FTP-Program like gftp for gnome! The current FTP-Programs I know for KDE aren't that good. So I hope, that you will go on with this app and bring it to the FTP-Front :)
Go on with this work!

There's no good ftp client in KDE?

What about Konqueror? It's great!
