Description:

KBlogger development has stalled lately and I propose using Bilbo, unless somebody comes up and works on KBlogger. Bilbo has almost the same concept,which was planned for KBlogger. I'll focus on KBlog (the library in kdepimlibs), which is used by Bilbo as well and maybe do a plasmoid which will be like the KDE3 kblogger.

Recent sources are in KDE svn at: svn co svn://anonsvn.kde.org/home/kde/trunk/playground/pim/kblogger"
If you seriously are willing to work on KBlogger to push a 1.0 release (which should be still quite some work) you can contact me on whilo@jabber.org .

KBlogger pre1.0 is a kicker-applet for quick blogging, like gnome-blog. Just push the blog button and blog!
It supports the Meta-Weblog-Api, which is supported by most blogs, and Blogger API 1.0.

KBlogger beginning from 1.0 is a full fledged blog manager for KDE 4. It supports Blogspot, Wordpress, Drupal and LiveJournal accounts. In general all blog backends/servers that support MovableType/MetaWeblog/Blogger1.0 or GData are supported, which are quite a lot.

DEPENDENCIES: You need kdebase-dev-4.0.0 and kdepimlibs-dev-4.0.0 (which depends on qt-4.3.3, kdelibs-4.0.0, kdelibs-dev-4.0.0 and kdepimlibs-dev-4.0.0).

THE KDE4 VERSION IS ALPHA CODE AT THE MOMENT, ONLY USE IT IF YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS.

Additional infos can be found on the webpage.

I'm not sure about the settings.

* What is the blog-id ?
* For the host, I tried :
http://calepin.blogsome.com
and
http://calepin.blogsome.com/wp-login.php
without success.
* The url (http://calepin.blogsome.com/xmlrpc.php) is the good one, since I used it with a python script (http://scott.yang.id.au/2002/12/mtsendpy/)

Maybe the problem comes from Wordpress who don't understand the API MetaWeblog despite the announced features (http://wordpress.org/about/features/)...

Hello

I can't compile kblogger. Here is the error I obtain :
)# ./configure --prefix=/usr/local/kde
checking build system type... i686-pc-linux-gnu
checking host system type... i686-pc-linux-gnu
checking target system type... i686-pc-linux-gnu
./configure: line 1379: syntax error near unexpected token `kblogger,'
./configure: line 1379: `AM_INIT_AUTOMAKE(kblogger, 0.1)'

I don't have any clue on how to resolve this :(

Try to create a new configure script, that matches your automake/autoconf versions:

make -f Makefile.cvs

After that, execute the well known commands:

./configure .....
make
su
make install

i guess there is no proxy support yet for this applet. so i am not able to test the unicode for you. and for the usability, blogid and default server settings for blogger for example should be implemented priorly

I cannot find any info about the xmlrpc backend on the wordpress site. I guess it supports both bloggerAPI and metaWeblogAPI. If you find related info, could you please post it here?

Hi, you can check xmlrpc suport here: http://codex.wordpress.org/XML-RPC_Support Regards

I found this in the features of WordPress :
"XML-RPC interface --- WordPress currently supports an extended version of the Blogger API, MetaWeblog API, and finally the MovableType API."
http://wordpress.org/about/features/

This means that your app should work with WordPress ?

I'll try it soon :)

looks interesting.
I actually made my own blogging system on my webserver.
I'd like to be able to set the post variables for the title and message.
URL scheme, whatever is needed to make a customizable way to add your own html blog system.

Good app, very useful.

Here is a simple ebuild I created for this app, the tarball needs to be repackaged so that the package files lie in the root directory of the tarball and not kportage/ but after that it builds and installs fine on my x86 machine.

--------------------------------------

inherit kde

DESCRIPTION="KDE blogging utility"

SRC_URI="http://kde-apps.org/content/files/29552-${P}.tar.bz2"

You can add
S=${WORKDIR}/${PN}
to your ebuild, so nothing needs to be recompressed.

Also, consider adding this ebuild to gentoo bugzilla.

Hi! This is a really good idea. BTW I could not manage to compile the application. Fisrt of all I had to redo all the aclocal autoheader automake and autoconf to get a proper configure and makefiles.. Then some includes are not in the tarball: kbloggerconfigdialog.h:24:33: error: kbloggerconfigblank.h: No such file or directory kblogger.cpp:34:28: error: kbloggerconfig.h: No such file or directory You may try to generate a proper tarball by using the make dist-bzip target and the check from the generated tarball that it can compile etc.. I rechecked that and I'm also new to automake. I think you have to use a command like this:
WANT_AUTOCONF_2_5="1" WANT_AUTOMAKE_1_6="1" gmake -f Makefile.cvs

I of course prechecked ./configure && make && make install and it worked perfectly for me. Could you please put the output and more details on your problem?
By the way I'm very happy that you like it! :-)
Has anybody tried to post non-latin-1- chars (utf support) to his blog?

Report

When I tried to post to my blog (which is all utf8) it made my umlauts (äöü) disappear. But I'm not sure if it's my fault, because I wrote my API implementation myself (or at least, screw up some GPL code for my API)

Report

C

Well I'm German, too and I can use äüöß in my metaWeblog at http://whiletaker.homeip.net/nucleus/. This can also depend on your browser, can you see the Utf-8 entry in my blog? KBlogger doesn't use entities, therefore it depends on your browser and the languages you installed.

Report

Well, it was my fault after all, I didn't correctly screw up the xmlrpc-implementation I used ;) About unicode support: at least with chinese characters it works fine. Thanks for your great application! Some feature request: It would be great if I could fetch and edit existing entries. If I get some time to learn and code I'll do it myself, but right now it doesn't seem very likely.

really cool! and easy to use... try to keep the interface clean, it's great how it is now. maybe you can implement this also as a (superkaramba) desktop widget - if not now, then for KDE4... with this app, bloging can take of as it should - damn easy to use, so you do it whenever you have something to say. cool work, again.

Report

C

i'll keep it simple, it's only an applet and for full support you can open your webinterface anyway. i'm currently thinking about how to improve the integration with kicker, it doesn't look very slick on transparent kickers now.
