kcmGRunlevel is a Gentoo runlevel editor. For good integration in KDE it is made as a KControl module.

To install kcmgrunlevel extract the tar.gz file to
${PORTDIR_OVERLAY}/app-admin as defined in your /etc/make.conf
Afterwards install it by typing "emerge kcmgrunlevel"
If you're using a stable (x86) system, install it by typing
"ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" emerge kcmgrunlevel"

Hi, I considered somthing like this but never got around to implementing it.
One complaint: having all the defined runlevels as columns in a list view is not logic or easy to overview. In my opinion, the service status should be seperate from the runlevel editing, and there should be a list (combobox for example) to chose the runlevel to edit, and a KActionSelector widget (two listboxes with arrows to move items between them) to edit the individual runlevels.

I like the listbox because I can sort the columns. I would do somthing other then the other apps.

When I put in my root password for administrator mode, it keeps telling me the password is wrong! Any idea what's going on here?

Nevermind, it turns out it's a bug in KDE 3.2.2:

Which, if you are running Gentoo, there is already a fix for. Just remerge kdelibs.

Is there any way to make KDE's sysV-init editor work with gentoo rahter than creat a new tool?

although this tool is really nice.

don't know, but I didn't like the sys-v editor very much. I will include different disto support in the next version of kcmGRunlevel.

I create this as a part of a gentoo control center. I like to do this as kcontrol modules. It is primary for me but perhaps other people could find this ideas usefull too.

Strange to see a gentoo app without an ebuild... :-)

Anyway, thanks for this needed tool.

I managed to do a hack for an ebuild (I actually hate to install software without using portage by now ;) ). I had some problems with the tar.bz2-file though. I had to rename the directory in that file to include the version-number. I have no idea (since I have no experience with producing ebuilds) how to write the ebuild in a way that it would still find the extracted files.

Anyhow, really nice app.

I'm new to gentoo and I had no experience with writing ebuilds. But I'm sure I will include an ebuild in the next version.
