Description:

Gwenview is a fast and easy to use image viewer/browser for KDE.

All common image formats are supported, such as PNG (including transparency), JPEG (including EXIF tags and lossless transformations), GIF (images as well as animations), XCF (Gimp image format), BMP, XPM and others.

Since 1.3.91, Gwenview can also view SVG images and play videos.

Standard features include slideshow, fullscreen view, image thumbnails, drag'n'drop, image zoom, full network transparency using the KIO framework, including basic file operations and browsing in compressed archives, non-blocking GUI with adjustable views.

Gwenview also provides image and directory KParts components for use e.g. in Konqueror.

Additional features, such as image renaming, comparing, converting, batch processing, HTML gallery and others are provided by the KIPI image framework.

Hi!

Great app. I really like it. The image smoothing is very useful to make digicam images look nice even at high magnifications. Actually, the smoothing implemented in Gwenview is the best I have ever seen and I have not been able to produce as good a result in Gimp for instance. It would be very nice to be able to save/export a smoothened image from Gwenview, or turn the smoothing into a general plugin or small command-line application on its own. Waddoyathink?

The smoothing algorithms are ported from ImageMagick, the best algorithm uses the Mitchell filter. If you use 'convert' from ImageMagick you should get the same result (see also the -filter option, although the manpage says Mitchell is the default when enlarging).

"gwenview's konqueror thumbnail slideshow viewer" - what exactly is that supposed to be? Moreover, most things in gwenview actually happen to be rather fast.

Just stumbled across something. After installing GwenView the popup menu on images in Konqueror looked different. This is because GwenView installs itself as the default plugin for image viewing. If you do not like this (like me), you have to manually change it in the mime type settings for each image type GwenView supports.

IMO GwenView should not set itself to the default.

Nice to see gwenview mature over time :-)

The only thing that I still dislike is your custom hand cursor over the preview image. In times of X cursor themes this looks quite outdated.

I replaced them (in the sources) with the standard ArrowCursor and SizeAllCursor when dragging. Looks better (IMO) and uses the current cursor theme.

Nevertheless, good work!

Kind regards,
Stefan

I've made an ebuild for the new 1.1.3 version. Can be downloaded from my site http://flameeyes.web.ctonet.it/ as usual.

Why cant I drag an image from konqueror to gwenview and have the image display? is it really that rare to want to be able to do that?

I guess thats the only reason I keep gtk + gqview, hope this function is added some time soon.

Works here now without problems. Drag into preview area to view, or drag into file area to move/copy.

(Some months passed, I know)

I take many pix w/ a digicam...

I like the features of gwenview, and would use it to the exclusion of mosfet's pixieplus were it not for the following:

In pixieplus, I have the ability to load the embedded previews in the jpgs.

I have not found how to do that in gwenview, so it takes a long time on my 1998-vintage box to get my previews in gewnview.

Is this function available in gwenview?

Where do I specify "use embedded previews" for my jpegs?

Thanks!

Ive got the same problem.my system is suse 9.0 plain vanilla up to date on all patches , Ive tried several precompiled rpm's (including 2 from suse's own ftp) Ive tried rebuilding
a source rpm and building from tarball
the precompiled rpms install fine with either yast , or rpm from console but give that error when run from console
from gui the icon is in the start menu
but when clicked it just blinks for about 40 sec then dissapears and nothing happens. One build from source got as far as starting to build gwenview in /tmp/build/.... before erroring out and orphaning the directory with out installing. THAT one works ( sortof the build was not complete) but has to be started by finding the binary with konqueror and
doubleclicking on it.I think the problem is in the build speck file but I dont have the expertise to find it.I sure would like some suggestions. ;) ron

Looks like you've got linking problems. Maybe you tried to use a precompiled package which was not adapted to your machine? You should try to rebuild Gwenview.

Hi,

I have only the first part of the error:
QMetaObject::findSignal:GVFileDetailView: Conflict with QListView::doubleClicked(QListViewItem*,const QPoint&,int)

I have recompiled (emerged as I am on Gentoo) Gwenview several times now. I think this started with my upgrade to Qt 3.3.0 (In the course of this I also reemerged my whole KDE 3.2). I've noticed that I don't get exif tag reading anymore in Gwenview, and I blame this error for it. Perhaps some Qt incompatibility?

I have yet to see an image-viewer on linux apart from a couple of screensavers which allow you to turn on 'random order' of the images for a slideshow. I'd really like to be able to randomize my slideshows sometimes.
Other than that, great app!

Why doesn't my downloaded version look like your screenshot? I have no last image/next image buttons, no thumbnails & no options in configure gwenview or configue toolbars for any such additions. Also, configure toolbars just doesn't work, I go through the steps to make changes & nothing happens. Also I have no help file ("handbook").
I tried both the 'stable' v1.0.1 and the 'unstable' v1.1.0. Using mandrake 9.2, the configure, make, make install seemed to go without any problems.

I had the same problem, only on 9.1, but dloading rpm solved it, real shame those precompiled shit works better. So try that, google should find it with no trouble.

Maybe you did not use the right prefix? You must run configure like this:
./configure --prefix=/where/kde/is/installed

On Mandrake 9.2 you should use --prefix=/usr. You can also use the binary RPMs made by Angelo, they are available from the download page of the web site.
