Description:

SMPlayer intends to be a complete front-end for MPlayer, from basic features like playing videos, DVDs, and VCDs to more advanced features like support for MPlayer filters and more.

One of the most interesting features of SMPlayer: it remembers the settings of all files you play. So you start to watch a movie but you have to leave... don't worry, when you open that movie again it will resume at the same point you left it, and with the same settings: audio track, subtitles, volume...

Other additional interesting features:

* Audio track switching. You can choose the audio track you want to listen. Works with avi and mkv. And of course with DVDs.
* Seeking by mouse wheel. You can use your mouse wheel to go forward or backward in the video.
* Video equalizer, allows you to adjust the brightness, contrast, hue, saturation and gamma of the video image.
* Multiple speed playback. You can play at 2X, 4X... and even in slow motion.
* Filters. Several filters are available: deinterlace, postprocessing, denoise... and even a karaoke filter (voice removal).
* Audio and subtitles delay adjustment. Allows you to sync audio and subtitles.
* Advanced options, such as selecting a demuxer or video & audio codecs.
* Playlist. Allows you to enqueue several files to be played one after each other. Autorepeat and shuffle supported too.
* Preferences dialog. You can easily configure every option of SMPlayer by using a nice preferences dialog.
* Translations: currently SMPlayer is translated into more than 20 languages, including Spanish, German, French, Italian, Russian, Chinese, Japanese....

I totally agree with Virgilio. I don't believe there are people compiling smplayer every bloody day !
RVM, i suggest you to sort out a website for smplayer, so you can release your 15 versions every day. Maybe you can use also your private discussion forum to receive feedbacks from your testers.
Regarding KDE-Apps...well, just one release per week would be fine.

Thanks.

buddy.. rvm is not having a group of testers for that.. and we are using his good work.. we ought to provide "testing services" and "useful feedback"

SVN would be too complicated for newbies..

with the Numbers part.. I think smplayer should increase numbers in the second digit more.. like
0.3.0,
0.3.1,
0.3.2,
0.3.4,
0.3.5, then
0.4.1
every 5 numbers or so.. cause it is pretty damn stable..

I have got no crash ever with smplayer! and this makes smplayer 'RC' status instead of "alpha" or "beta" who would crash frequently..

I completely agree, the least we can do it test each release for him/her and report bugs and the like. Fire away with as many releases as you like my lad/lass!

smplayer is just wonderful!

icons are missing when compiled with KDE_SUPPORT=1

I love the "KDE file open dialog" which allows kio:/ features.. like locate:/ etc..

the icons are not loaded into smplayer with KDE support.. and kde icons folder is "default" not "hicolor"

please see how we can make icons load properly with KDE_SUPPORT..

Thank you for your continous and efficient coding :)

The embedded icons don't show in smplayer because KApplication changes the default QMimeSourceFactory... I think I've just fix it.

Anyway the other icon themes, which are loaded from disc, should work.

Great app, and getting better with each daily release.

Just one little problem: When I run smplayer on my second screen (TV), the file dialog opens on the first screen. Happens both with precompiled Suse packages and self compiled.

What could be the problem?

I don't know. All open dialogs are created with "this" as a parent, so I think they should display just above the parent window.
But I don't really know how multi-screen works.

Do you have the same problem with other applications or only with smplayer?

Report

Happens only with smplayer. The file dialog seems to default to display :0.0, even when $DISPLAY says :0.1

Report

Does this only happen with file dialogs?
Does the preferences dialog, for instance, show in the correct screen?

I've just built 0.3.42 and whatever you did, the file dialogs are right as rain now. Yay!

Thanks and keep up the good work.

The strange thing is that I haven't done anything recently to the file dialogs (besides adding kde support).

Report

Other dialogs and child widgets are where they ought to be. Only the file dialog plays hide and seek, but all the file dialogs: open file, subtitle, directory ...

For the file dialogs I'm calling static functions, maybe that's the problem (it's the only difference with the others)

But... what dialogs are you using? Qt or KDE?

Well, now smplayer should be able to compile with kde support. That way it will use the kde dialogs.

Please test if it works.

You only have to type:

make KDE_SUPPORT=1

The makefile will find out the kde paths by its own, as it uses "kde-config --prefix" to know it.

Ah, don't try to compile with Qt 4. I suppose it would be impossible to mix Qt 4 with KDE 3.

BTW, I've just realized that with kde support you can't pass a file to open from command line... it gives an error :(

I'll try to fix it tomorrow.

fixed by
1) uncommenting Makefile:13, commenting Makefile:15
2) and replace Makefile:31 by

QMAKE_OPTS=DEFINES+=KDE_SUPPORT INCLUDEPATH+=`kde-config --prefix`/include/kde \

This works for me too.

The problem in Kubuntu is, the include path is
`kde-config --prefix`/include/kde
and not
`kde-config --prefix`/include/

I've seen that the command kde-config --expandvars --install lib gives the lib path, but I can't find any option to get the include path :-O

This is gonna make things harder...
