I enjoy seeing the Mozilla Dragon, KDE's Konqui, and Tux the penguin. They make people happier and are fun to look at. They give Linux a personality of it's own and make it friendlier. I think Konqui, Tux, and even Mozilla's Dragon all look better than Microsoft's 4 color logo. Also the guy that keeps calling everyone an "ediot" chill out.

I am stilla newbie to KDE and Linux in general but I have tried to change the login screen for KDE in the Control Center, System, Login Manager, then Background. Everytime I add a picture to use I logout and the picture I chose comes up for about 2 seconds and goes away. Can someone help me out please?

I had the same problem and following fixed mine!

Edit /etc/X/xdm/Xsetup_0 (on redhat it is there) and comment out to make it look like this.

-----------------------------------
#!/bin/sh
# Xsetup for Red Hat Linux
# Copyright (c) 1999, 2000, 2001 Red Hat, Inc.

/usr/X11R6/bin/xsetroot -solid "#D88818"

if [ -z "$RUNNING_UNDER_GDM" ] ; then
/sbin/pidof -s kdm &> /dev/null && [ $? -eq 0 -a -x /usr/bin/kdmdesktop ] && /usr/bin/kdmdesktop && sleep 1s

# only set the background if the xsri program is installed
# if [ -x /usr/bin/xsri -a -f /etc/X11/xsrirc ]; then
# /usr/bin/xsri --redhat-login --set
# fi

-----------------------------------
Hope you have joy!

KDE and linux in general need to get a more professional images, dropping the animals, Dragons, Lizards and Penguins.

Background work is nicely done though.

Personally, I don't agree with this post. How many people in offices want to personalise their desktops simply in order to get away from the "professional" look?

shut the **** up u ediot kde and linux doesnt
a more proffesional look u just need to get a
life. go back to your windoze and shut up about proffesional look its an os i hate these ediots who think that everything needs a professional look what is a proffesional look anyway u stupid ediot. U telling me winxp looks professional no it looks like a kids toy. The linux logo will always be a penguin *bsd will be the demon and i hope kde keeps konqi to piss off arse holes like your self.

The guy is just giving his opinion, which I found very valid.
There's no need to insult everybody... How stupid can people get...?

I think he is probably spending too much time on the computer and not in middle school learning social and spelling skills.

Wow, it's just perfect.

Only one suggestion:
It would be cool if the edges between the background and Konqi would be a little bit smoother.

Thanx for your great work!!

That is an excellent idea to make a coherent pack with splash screen and background for login and desktop build from the same base.

Very good Splash Screen but our Konqi could be a little brighter
