Gimp Splash screen (3 variants)
Source (link to git-repo or to original if based on someone elses unmodified work): Add the source-code for this project on opencode.net
3 variants for a Gimp splash screen.
Copy to ~/home/your-account/.gimp-2.6/splashes
Create this directory if it doesn't exist. If everything works fine, the images in this folder will be displayed randomly each time gimp loads.
I will provide the xcf file to download later when I'll be not so lazy to find a download location.
Credits :
The simplest one is obviously inspired by photoshop splash screen.
On the two other ones, the little thingy in the middle is a vector downloaded from http://vector4free.com/vectors/id/103

The font used is "aller", wich you can find here : http://www.fontsquirrel.com/fonts/Aller
Actually I'm not too happy with those iterations, here is why :
- Though the font is described as "free", I don't know exactly about its licence.
- I "borrowed" an element from this vector file : http://vector4free.com/vectors/id/103, which is free for personal use only.
- Overall, it's too much "photoshop-esque"
I will post some updates later on, more respectfull of open-source software and free fom "borrowed" elements.
That's why I would rather not publish the XCF file for now, but be sure I will do so for the next iterations !

I'm making an Ubuntu remix tailored for artists, I've made a custom splash from scratch for 9.10 (see http://gimpstuff.org/content/show.php/?content=117905) but I'm not happy with it in 10.04/10.10. I tried several ways to improve it, changed fonts/colours/etc but the concept is too plain, so I gave it up and googled for a better one, and found your great work. Now I want to have something like this for my distro!

I didn t tried to use custom splash screens with gimp 2.4. Maybe you need to copy it in your username/.gimp-2.4 folder instead of ./gimp-2.6
Or maybe it simply doesn t work with gimp 2.4...
