Meteosat is a superkaramba theme showing latest meteosat image in the desktop.
The fetched image is processed by imagemagick (needed as prerequisite), to obtain a "soft start border", using png opacity.
Starting with version 0.2, the images are stored in a configurable size archive, and are browsable with the mouse wheel (hint by Fabio)
Version 0.3 has been rewritten using kolombo framework
Version 0.4 has been optimized for superkaramba 0.39, using new python API in order to minimize CPU usage
Requirements:
* superkaramba >= 0.39
* imagemagik >=6.2.2
* curl

for europe only!
As I love this theme I change the image source because the last one is deprecated so I change the two lines in meteosat.theme.
1) to change W and H :
KARAMBA X=200 Y=80 W=641 H=490 interval=100 locked=true
2) to change image source, history, refresh and buttons position :
# KOLOMBO id=meteosat image=http://aurora.meteotest.ch/prognose/sat_images/ir_internet_europa_loop.gif histsize=256 refresh=18000 x=0 y=0 nav-layout=layouts/crystal22x22 navx=5 navy=465 post=beautify.sh
and I prefer this image because it's more "realistic"

i like your theme very much but the meteosat7 satellite was closed down and so the image source is not longer available
so can you make a new theme for the size of the picture of
http://www.zamg.ac.at/dyn/pictures/sat.gif
which is refreshed hourly
and please remove the white border because its not so beautiful

The background image is always the same (animation works fine) and they do regular updates in shorter intervals. It doesn't matter that the image is larger than the preceding ones. A smaller problem could be that the date and time in the upper left corner is in white color and sometimes there are white clouds in that area as well so the time can not be seen to good.
I changed the theme and the script and got it running for several hours now .... without any problems. In case you (maybe the author or anybody else) are/is interested you can simply mail me. Maybe you have some ideas about the date/time in white color.
Greetings from under a cloudy sky.

convert ${2} -resize 68% ${2}
at the end of the file beautify.sh and restart the theme. The image should be exact the same size to the one of the former URL. Unfortunately the date is too small to read then.
A simple solution to that is, to copy the date of the original image, then reduce the image, enlarge the date and put these both together again.

I do not and did not want to interfere in the work of the author of this project. I simply made a suggestion. You can accept it or not.
For myself I changed the beautify-script a lot more, got the "small" image, got it framed in a shiny black/gray, the bigger date/time in the left upper corner also framed, this time in red. And I have modified the .theme file so that the buttons are right under the image again. But all this is something everybody can do: a big plus of open source.
In case there are more users that want the theme the way I have it, I'd be glad to send my file to the author. (My knowledge in ImageMagick is not too good so this could get some improvement).
Once again: no hard feelings.

I also tried the SAT image from weather.com but they do an update every 2 or 3 hours only. It doesn't make much sence to see, that you got wet an hour ago. I'd like to see the clouds and thunderstorm before they come.
So please (this is to all users) try to find more usable SAT image services and report them.
Thanks in advance.

Did they give up the service? Has anyone here more information or am I doing something wrong?
There are some other weather websites with radar and/or satelite images. Maybe we could change the link or add the url. Sure it's not simply adding something to the configuration menu - there's a lot more to do. Maybe we all should think about it and discuss it.

it seems that your karamba does not understand the "getPrettyThemeName" python call, try to replace the line with
themename = karamba.getPrettyThemeName(widget)
with
themename = "meteosat"

I've installed meteosat 0.3 and I found this:
1. I had some old configuration in ~/.superkaramba/... so I got immediately sat picture on the desktop. But, X server=100% CPU. That's unacceptable.
2. Configure theme menu option is greyed out...
3. I've started meteosat for new user (hasn't had any old config) and meteosat doesn't even run.
Superkaramba version: 0.37-RC2
What's up?

i have this DWD jpg running, and 2 webcams . yes, i renamed the themes and .py, so they are called different in the .superkaramba directory.
e.g.
webcam1.theme
webcam1.py
webcam2.theme
webcam2.py
though, only the last theme called is updated. could this be infact of all of them use "img" and "img1"? well, just guessing.. ;)
how would i fix this?
a small hack for the source would be sufficient to me. maybe using wcam and wcam1 ins tead of img and img1? or is the problem somewhere else?
