Description:

This is the Reinhardt style.

It is based very heavily on clee's dotNET style. It will eventually be an interpretation of Fop's mockups as seen on kde-look.org and the Slicker homepage. It is a proposal for the default Slicker widget style.

To install the style, do as follows:

$ ./configure
$ make
# sudo make install

It should now be available in the KDE Control Centre Style panel.
NB! You might very easily need to stick a --prefix=/usr or --prefix=/opt/kde3 at the end of the ./configure command. Which depends on the result of running kde-config --prefix

Should you wish to turn off the drop-shadow effect on text items, or wish to change the tab style, click on the Configure... button next to the style selection box in you Style Control Center module.

On the name:
Ad Reinhardt, 1913-1967
Reinhardt was an American minimalist painter, who became known for his extreme style, which also became more and more reductive from the mid 1950s, towards his death in 1967. After 1955 he worked almost exclusively in near-black. This said, there is in fact colour in the paintings, for example his "Abstract Painting no. 5", 1962, which can be found at the Tate Modern ( www.tate.org.uk ), is, though seemingly black-blue, in fact squared with blue and red.

+ Trouble in layout land! For some very, very obscure reason, splitter bars are drawn incorrectly (especially visible in amaroK, where the sidebar splitter now renders correctly; see screenshot)... So I'm just drawing them in both directions at the same time :P This causes extra drawing over-head, so if anyone manages to fix it /please/ send the .diff to me!

Right, it's kind of a quick/dirty fix, but I think it's good... Tell me what you think (basically, I have simply changed the style, so that all button backgrounds are highlight-background when pressed, which of course includes the toggles)

i've installed this themes, no error messages, everything went fine as told in your instruction
but i coldn't see it in my kde control center themes'(or style) lists
why ? pls help me
i use :
red hat 9
kde 3.1
qt 3.1
xfree 4.3.x

I had the same problems. What I did was to move my 'slicker.la' and 'slicker.so' files into /usr/lib/kde3/plugins/styles. You can use slocate to find them ( eg "slocate slicker | more" ). Also you'll need to move the slicker.themerc file into /usr/share/apps/kstyle/themes. Hope this helps.

I had the exact same problem. What you have to do is install the files in the correct RedHat 9 locations. I don't remember them off the top of my head, but use slocate to find the karamba theme files and put the slickerstyle ones there. Then start kcontrol and they should show up. I'll find and post the exact directories later.

Just wanted to drop a note: it's the best I have seen so far. Lean, clean and yet very elegant. I like the professional look.

I only have a few comments, which you are welcome to ignore :)

First, I would recomemend a way to shutdown the text shadows in menus. My screen is not that good and it looks too blurry.

The second comment is relative to the vertical spacing between menu items. The default KDE style goups them too close, your style (i feel) groups them too loosely, just like the mdk galaxy style. The light style grups them 'just right' in my opinion.

The third is that the shadow of the bottom and right scroll bar arrows feels strange. The shadow is on the wrong side and it seems like the buttons are pressed. I'd preffer flat arrow buttons, since most of the style is 2D, but I don't know how you plan to evolve the style.

All in all, I like your style very much. I keep it on my 'style of the day' pool of styles. Very nice work.

In your home directory
.qt/kstylerc

to disable the 3d font effect in the menus

Yup, the icons are going to be released as a separate entity, but to go in with this style (as well as the background Slicker KDE number one in the 1600x1200 Wallpaper section). They will be called Slicker Icons (original name there, eh? ;) ).

I really like this one !
It's fast and clean.

I have one remark:
the scrollbar is wider than the scrolbar buttons buttons .
You can see it very well if you for example to ->konqueror->help->About Konqueror->Autors.

Can you make it more fluently , so the bar and the buttons are one piece?

The rest of theme is great ;-)

The scrollbar thing was actually supposed to be a feature of the theme, but others have noticed that the buttons seem out of place in some situations, so they're no longer that small :) I'll upload new code and new screenies in a moment...

i must say this is very nice, very clean and fast.
Looks nice coupled with mkultra and a slightly modified version of mdk's galaxy theme http://members.lycos.co.uk/captainmilkfarmer/screens/snapshot8.png

What you probably run into is the same problem that everyone runs into in the beginning. You will probably have to, in stead of as it says in the README file (./configure) do the following:
./configure --prefix=/usr
or
./configure --prefix=/opt/kde3
...depending on the distribution. To get the directory name to put after the --prefix= option, type kde-prefix --prefix in a konsole.
